"Young Marshal, that Yun Yun approached me before. At first, I thought she truly admired me, so I started dating her." His old face turned increasingly red; having faced countless battles, he was no match for the smile of a single woman in the realm of love. "I must say, this woman is indeed very alluring. I almost lost my direction because of her. It's also my fault for being loose-lipped and telling her about General Shangguan's matters. She then encouraged me to act independently and seek revenge for the General..."
Shangguan Shaoyi's gaze grew colder. "How did you see through her later?"
"I discovered a tunnel in her house, which was quite strange. One day, while hiding in the tunnel, I overheard her talking to a Japanese person. They were discussing how she wanted to turn me into the second Lin Hongyao. That's when I finally realized." He scratched his head awkwardly, his eyes drifting. "Young Marshal, I know I made a grave mistake. After this incident, I will return to my hometown to retire and will never appear around you again."
Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow but did not express his stance; his voice was particularly cold and resolute. "Lin Hongyao couldn't withstand the beauty's trials, yet you managed to get through them."
Shen Mingliang chuckled foolishly a couple of times and added, "That's because Lin Hongyao had already developed ulterior motives, while I had no such thoughts; I only wanted to repay the General's kindness from back then! I'm just too slow-witted; it wasn't until that day when I discovered her scheme that I realized following you faithfully is the best way to repay the General for saving my life!"
Shangguan Shaoyi glanced at him indifferently. "I'll pretend this never happened. You should stay by my side with peace of mind; after all these years, you're the only one I can trust."
"Yes! Young Marshal!" He grinned widely, gripping the steering wheel as he turned a corner. "That Yun Yun is too despicable; she's my first girlfriend in this life, which makes me hesitant to find another woman."
Hearing him say this made Shangguan Shaoyi smile slightly. "Don't let one misstep ruin your appetite."
"What does that mean?" Shen Mingliang scratched his head, his smile taking on a somewhat silly quality. "Young Marshal, I asked Miss Cheng to leave earlier because I didn't want these matters known by women; otherwise, I'd be so embarrassed."
"I understand; don't worry, I won't tell Mo Su." He waved his hand with a hint of amusement in his tone. The tension in his heart slowly eased. Fortunately, Deputy Officer Shen discovered this plot; otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable.
The dark room was pitch black. Shen Mingliang reached out to turn on the light; although there was a little bit of illumination, it did nothing to brighten the thick darkness that permeated everything—only revealing circles of dust around the light bulb.
Yun Yun was tied to a pillar, her fair skin becoming the only brightness in the darkness. Hearing footsteps, she lifted her eyes and saw Shangguan Shaoyi. She paused for a moment before her crimson lips curled into the same enchanting smile as before.
"Mr. Shangguan, long time no see."
"Indeed." Shangguan Shaoyi looked at her uneven breathing with burning eyes, wishing he could burn her right then and there.
She laughed heartily, her allure penetrating deep into her bones. "I want to ask you seriously: I'm an upright person; what gives you the right to have your deputy hang me here and torture me, forcing me to confess things I know nothing about?"
A crisp slap echoed in the air. It was not Shangguan Shaoyi who delivered it, but rather Shen Deputy Officer.
"What gives you the right to toy with my feelings? What do you want from me?" Shen Mingliang's pupils trembled slightly. He had genuinely cared for Yun Yun, but he never expected her to deceive him so deeply. If he hadn't discovered the truth in time, he might have become the second Lin Hongyao. This was something he could never allow himself to become; he would not permit himself to be a traitor seeking personal gain!
"What are you talking about?" Yun Yun widened her eyes, tears glistening in her phoenix-like eyes. The bloodstains from being struck marred her fair skin, making her appear truly pitiful. "How can you say that about me? You can accuse me of being whoever you want, but you absolutely cannot say that I deceived your feelings." Her words were so sincere that even Shen Mingliang began to doubt his own judgment, looking toward Shangguan Shaoyi for help.
Shangguan Shaoyi remained silent, his cold gaze sharp as a dagger. Suddenly, he twisted his strong wrist and tightly gripped Yun Yun's neck. Her pale cheeks turned red from the pressure, and she struggled to breathe as her consciousness began to fade, leaving her only able to see those eyes filled with cold light.
"Speak! Who instructed you? Reveal their name." His grip tightened further.
Yun Yun felt cold sweat trickling down her back. Just when she thought she couldn't hold on any longer, he released his grip, allowing her awareness to slowly return. She gasped for fresh air, meeting Shangguan Shaoyi's icy and sinister Eyes, yet her lips still curled into a carefree smile. "After enduring so many tortures, do you think choking my throat will make me confess anything? I said no means no; I don't know means I don't know. No matter how many times you ask, the answer remains the same!"
Shangguan Shaoyi's pitch-black Eyes brimmed with murderous intent, his knuckles cracking in the tense silence. As he noticed Yun Yun's smile, a hint of amusement appeared on his face. "Is that so? The real torture is just beginning."
"Fine, I'll tell you everything." The crimson smile on her lips was cruel. "But you must call Rong Hai here first; only then will I speak."
Shangguan Shaoyi's expression darkened. "What do you want Uncle Rong for?!"
"It concerns the Life and Death of his daughter; he needs to know." Even under severe torture, she maintained her composure and charm, blood trickling down to her cool Fingertips. Her enchanting Eyes gazed seductively at Shangguan Shaoyi.
"Shen Deputy Officer, go fetch Uncle Rong." Shangguan Shaoyi's pupils tightened as he fixed his unblinking gaze on Lin Xiankai, a chill accumulating in his heart, ready to burst forth. "You better not pull any tricks."
Before long, the iron door was swung open with a loud bang. The sudden light stung their eyes until they adjusted to the brightness and finally saw Rong Hai’s face clearly.
"Miss Jin?" Rong Hai exclaimed in shock. "What are you doing hanging her up like this? I've told you before that she is the daughter of the Prince of Duan; I once served in the prince’s residence..."
"But she is no longer that," Shangguan Shaoyi interrupted him. "She is now a Japanese spy named Yun Yun. Calling Uncle here is precisely because Yu Qiao's death is closely related to her."
Rong Hai's expression changed, staring intently at Yun Yun, as if she could tear her apart with just her gaze.
Yun Yun smiled seductively, tilting her delicate head casually. Her fair skin was as smooth as jade, but her eyes were particularly terrifying. "Since I've already been caught, I don't want to hide anything anymore. Some things you all know, but there are some things you don't understand at all."
Her smile grew increasingly eerie. "In fact, Miss Rong came to me once, asking how she could capture Mr. Shangguan's heart. I casually taught her a few tricks, but she went crazy learning them, haha."
A sense of foreboding slipped through Shangguan Shaoyi's mind as his pistol pointed directly at her heart, his gaze fierce. "What did you teach her?!"
"Very simple," she replied with a bright yet hollow smile. "I just told her how to seduce you. But talking without practice is just empty talk. I even found her a man to practice with; she had so much fun with him every day that I felt ashamed in comparison."
"You bastard! I'll kill you!" Rong Hai's veins bulged, her eyes instantly filled with red bloodshot veins. She didn't know where the strength came from, but she snatched the gun from Shangguan Shaoyi's hand and shot at Yun Yun.
Yun Yun fell into a pool of blood, a cruel smile still lingering on her lips.
Rong Hai's cold gaze turned to Shangguan Shaoyi, her voice unwavering as she aimed the gun at his heart. "If you could accept Yu Qiao, this wouldn't have happened. Even if you don't accept her, think of a better way to reject her so she wouldn't have to endure so much torment and humiliation. It's your and Cheng Mo's selfishness that has caused her demise!"
Rong Hai's eyes were indifferent. "If you believe you have nothing to feel guilty about, then I won't say anything more. If you feel sorry for Yu Qiao, then end it yourself and accompany her to the afterlife so she won't be lonely on the road to the underworld."
Shangguan Shaoyi remained silent, his long fingers taking the pistol. It was clearly a bright March day, yet it felt as cold as a cold winter. The bond that once existed between them was no longer one of friendship but rather the tragic prelude forged by schemes and conspiracies.
