Under the bright moonlight, Cheng Mosu set out a series of dishes she had carefully prepared over the course of the day. 0

A summer breeze swept by, reminiscent of that night not long ago. She looked up at the similar moonlight and thought of the promise she made to Shaoyi, feeling warmth in her heart. In the nearby lotus pond, the flowers bloomed densely, showcasing their delicate forms and vibrant colors. 0

“Cheng Mosu.” A familiar voice came from behind her, filling her with joy. Before she could clearly see his face, she was enveloped by a scent of gunpowder. 0

She raised her gaze, her long black hair cascading casually to her waist. In her water-colored eyes were rippling waves, and a faint smile lingered on her lips. “I heard you were coming back today, so I specially made a table full of dishes all by myself, without any help.” He was slightly surprised; he remembered she had cooked for him once before but did not expect her to be able to prepare an entire feast on her own now. 0

“My Cheng Mosu is truly amazing.” He gently kissed her forehead with affection, ignoring the blush on her cheeks as he lifted her into his lap. His ink-black eyes sparkled like stars. 0

Leaning against his shoulder, she momentarily forgot the difficulties they faced. Shangguan Shaoyi picked up a knife and fork, slicing through the medium-rare steak while feeding Cheng Mosu a few pieces. They exchanged smiles, peaceful and beautiful. Cheng Mosu couldn't help but close her eyes; she had been too exhausted these past few days but could not find restful sleep. Now nestled in a comforting embrace, she felt drowsy and yawned repeatedly. 0

A hint of a smile crossed Shangguan Shaoyi's stern face. “Why do you look so tired? Should I carry you back to your room to rest?” 0

“No.” She immediately perked up, sitting up straight as the fog cleared from her water-colored eyes. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi couldn't hide his amusement. “Alright then, we can see each other often from now on. If you're tired, don't hold back.” 0

Cheng Mosu's delicate face flushed even more, and with a playful yet reproachful look in her beautiful eyes, she said, “Who’s holding back just to see you?” 0

Shangguan Shaoyi smiled wider and raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? Then I might just leave.” 0

“Hey.” She quickly grabbed his sleeve, pouting playfully. “Why do you have to make me say everything?” 0

He felt a tremor in his heart as he gently looked at her slightly embarrassed face. His large hand covered her delicate neck, and as he pulled her closer, the fragrant scent wafted to his nose. He leaned down to cover her lips, not teasing the already flushed cheeks. The moonlight spilled over the two of them locked in an embrace, casting their intertwined shadows. Her long eyelashes fluttered like a fan, and a faint smile slowly spread across her lips under his touch. 0

After a long while, he finally released her. 0

She gazed at his handsome face, a slight pain in her heart, and finally spoke, "Shaoyi, I actually have a question I've been wanting to ask you." 0

"What is it?" he replied casually. 0

"If you had to choose between me and the world, which one would you choose?" Her voice was soft but carried a hint of tension; she feared hearing the answer because it would determine their future. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi was momentarily taken aback, but just for a second. He quickly regained his composure and smiled faintly as he said, "Why are you suddenly asking this?" 0

"I just want to know." Her voice grew softer but held a trace of stubbornness. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi stared at her intently. Her cheeks were like jade, and her water-like eyes sparkled with life. After pondering for a moment, his voice became more serious, "Mosu, I told you, these two things are not in conflict." 0

"How can they not be? I'm not a fool." Cheng Mo Su slightly struggled against his tight embrace. "The people's grievances are still strong; they've even started to slander me personally. If you continue to be with me, those citizens will definitely not accept it. With instability behind us, we can't move forward either. Besides, those newspapers are all located within the Concession Area; you can't shut them down. What do you plan to do about this?" 0

"Mosu..." 0

"Right now, you probably have no choice but to follow public opinion and marry that person's daughter to calm this situation down," Cheng Mo Su murmured softly, her voice barely above a whisper. 0

"I will not marry her; I only want you," Shangguan Shaoyi said firmly as he looked at her, his pitch-black eyes filled with unwavering determination. 0

Cheng Mo felt a warmth in her heart, and her nose tinged with a slight sting. Soft hands climbed onto his shoulders. “Shaoyi, thank you. But… if I don’t leave, you won’t be able to fulfill your ambitions. However, I also don’t want you to marry someone else, so… can we leave together? To a place where no one knows us, living a simple life together, is that okay?” 0

Shangguan Shaoyi was silent for a moment. His face remained calm, but internally he was tumultuous. After a long while, he finally spoke: “Mo Su, I believe there must be a way to have both. Just give me time.” 0

She was taken aback for a moment, bitterness welling up in her heart. She understood that he ultimately still refused to give up the battlefield. Shangguan Shaoyi held her shoulders, forcing her to look up at him. “I fight not just for my own ideals. I have to consider my father’s ambitions, the happiness of the people, and the future of the country. Mo Su, being born into a warlord family is beyond my control, but as long as you give me enough time, I can think of a way to resolve these issues.” 0

Cheng Mo lowered her head and nodded slightly. In truth, both of them knew that he was merely dragging out time indefinitely. This matter had escalated to such an extent that there was no room for retreat. He had his mission and ambitions; thus, she should not become an obstacle in his path. 0

He reached out and pulled her into his embrace. He softly said, “Mo Su, you don’t have to be afraid of anything; just believe in me.” He looked down at the soft beauty in his arms and gently asked, “Do you believe in me?” 0

Her Rose-Colored Lips moved slightly. Shaoyi had never gone back on his word before her, but why did she feel an overwhelming sense of helplessness when faced with these storms? Perhaps it was her own issue; she always thought too much and too chaotically but lacked the ability to cope with these frequent changes. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi picked her up effortlessly; her jet-black hair brushed against his chest. Her Rose-colored lips were alluringly vibrant, and her Water-colored Eyes had long Eyelashes fluttering like fans. 0

He carried her back to the room and gently set her down, afraid of hurting her. She had been staying in his room for several days now, but he was particularly busy, often staying at the command center without returning home. When he did come back, it was only for a few hours before he hurriedly left again. She looked at him in his crisp military uniform, his sword-like brows and Black Eyes full of vigor. A pang of bitterness crossed her heart; Shaoyi did not belong to her but to this chaotic world that desperately needed peace. 0

He placed a light kiss on her forehead as a goodnight gesture. “Get some rest early; I’m heading back to the command center. There’s an important meeting the day after tomorrow.” She felt troubled and didn’t really hear what he was saying. Making a decision was extremely difficult for her; however, once she made that decision, she needed to cherish every moment spent with him. 0

She raised her Eyes, incredibly serious. “Shaoyi, let’s not leave today; stay with me just for one day.” 0
