The winter sun was shining brightly, and the light was soft. He savored a cup of coffee, the rich aroma lingering between his fingers. Closing his eyes, he seemed to see her smiling face. She had shallow dimples when she smiled, a gentle voice, and wore a touch of understated elegance. Her delicate fingertips brushed against his broad palm, and her long eyelashes fluttered rhythmically like feathers. 0

Opening his eyes, he found himself in a cold world. 0

Shangguan Yiting was right; he had lost his home and the one he loved. Now, he would live solely for his country and carry on. He didn't want others to experience the same kind of separation and loss that he and Mo Su had endured. 0

He stood up and left the house. Under Shangguan Yiting's inquiring gaze, he got into the stretched limousine. With a slight press on the accelerator, the car shot out like an arrow, leaving her sight behind. 0

An Italian restaurant with just the right ambiance met his gaze. He slammed the car door shut, and the sudden stop left a mark in the snow. Pushing the door open, the surrounding sounds of laughter and chatter abruptly ceased as everyone turned to look at this extraordinary man in military attire. In an instant, they recognized who he was. The ladies flushed with color and whispered among themselves, while the gentlemen smirked with jealousy. 0

The location he had arranged with her was right here. 0

Jiang Yating walked in wearing a light yellow beret, her lips painted a vibrant yet playful red. The sound of her diamond-studded high heels echoed on the floor, while her long eyelashes concealed the fatigue from her recent travels. 0

Seeing her arrive, he remained silent and ordered her a milk coffee. She thanked him softly; although she didn't like coffee, she still pressed her lips together at his gaze. 0

"Considering how much time has passed, we haven't seen each other for quite a while," Jiang Yating said with a hint of a smile, noticing his silence and deciding to break the ice. 0

Shangguan Shaoyi's gaze remained as cold as ever. His long, strong fingers held a cigar, and the drifting smoke surrounded her, making her frown slightly. Observing her discomfort, he smiled faintly and extinguished the cigar. She turned away awkwardly and asked, "You don't dislike me because of my father, do you?" 0

"No, I can distinguish between people clearly." He leaned back in his chair as sunlight spilled over him, making his polished boots shine with a unique luster. 0

Her face lit up with joy as the corners of her lips lifted into a beautiful arc. "Is that true?" 0

"Naturally." He simply answered with two words. He would not show any emotional fluctuations towards anyone other than Mo Su. He did not dislike Jiang Yating, nor could he say he liked her; it was just that if she were not Jiang Shaohao's daughter, he probably wouldn't even remember her existence. 0

He paused for a moment, his gaze not on her. In the hazy sunlight was the face he longed for, Cheng Mo Su's smiling face, her pouting expression, her gentle demeanor, and her crying face—all of which still lingered in his heart. To the phantom in his mind, he uttered three simple words, "Let's get married." 0

Jiang Yating was taken aback, clearly not realizing he was speaking to her. His gaze was obviously wandering beyond the space around them. She bit her lip and waved her hand in front of his eyes. "Are you talking to me?" 0

He came back to his senses and looked at her, his eyes suddenly serious. "Yes." 0

Her eyes suddenly felt a bit sore, an impulse to shed tears rising within her. Although she knew Shangguan Shaoyi was marrying her for profit, she would indeed become Consort Shangguan. She dared not ask Shangguan Shaoyi whether he would always remember Cheng Mo Su because she knew the answer deep down. However, the person who would accompany Shangguan Shaoyi through life and death from now on could only be her, and she felt immensely satisfied in her heart. 0

That time when Zhu Yefeng failed to kill Shangguan Shaoyi but instead killed Cheng Mo Su made her feel a strange sense of joy. 0

"How to arrange the wedding and when to hold it will all be left to you. When the time comes, have Shen Deputy Officer notify me; I will attend," he said as he took out a plain white card and wrote a few strong characters with a cobalt blue pen. "This is the phone number for the command center; if you call, Shen Deputy Officer will answer." 0

Before he could finish his last word, he stood up as if talking to her for even a moment longer would shorten his life. She hurriedly stood up with him, feeling that her self-esteem had been severely wounded. She forced a smile and grabbed his arm. "There's no need to trouble Shen Deputy Officer; starting today, I will move into Shangguan Residence. What do you think?" 0

His expression turned cold as he replied, "We are not officially married yet; that is not allowed." 0

"When did you become so rigid? Miss Cheng stayed at your house for more than just one or two days before marrying you." Jiang Yating raised an eyebrow, provoking Shangguan Shaoyi. His dark eyes indeed contained traces of anger but he still tried to maintain his tone. "Mo Su is an exception." 0

"What exception? Is being dead an exception?" Jiang Yating smirked, retaliating against Shangguan Shaoyi's attack on her dignity. 0

"If you say one more word, I can't guarantee your life will still be intact." Shangguan Shaoyi turned away from her, his straight back expressing his coldness while his pitch-black eyes concealed his frustration. 0

Jiang Yating smiled lightly, hooking her arm around his. "Alright, Shaoyi, don't be angry anymore. If we don't live together, we won't, but after we get married, we will have to move in eventually. Once I call my father today and ask him to come to Ning Tian tomorrow, as soon as he arrives, we can get married. What do you think?" 0

His peripheral vision caught her; she bit her red lips, her gaze sharp and wise, her long eyelashes fluttering at a set frequency. He withdrew his gaze and reached for the door, the cold light ruthlessly invading his heart. Without Mo Su, he was slowly losing even the last trace of humanity. 0

Watching him walk further away, Jiang Yating's smile at the corners of her lips faded. She walked to the counter, raised an eyebrow, and said condescendingly, "Hey, is there a phone? Let me use it." 0

The boss was initially displeased with her tone, but seeing her with Shangguan Shaoyi earlier, he realized she must be someone not to be trifled with—at the very least, she was a confidante of Shangguan Shaoyi. Such a person was not someone he could afford to offend. He had no choice but to suppress his pride and smiled at her. "Yes, miss, please go ahead." 0

She snorted coldly, her gaze carrying a hint of chill. Instead of hurriedly reaching for the phone, she fixed her eyes on the boss. "Yes, I'm still a miss now; in a few days, you will change how you address me." Seeing the boss look at her in confusion, she said no more and picked up the receiver to dial out. 0

On the other end of the line was a weathered yet shrewd voice. 0

She smiled and said softly, "Dad, it's confirmed that he will marry me; our union with the Shangguan Family is going to succeed. Can you confirm when you'll come to Ning Tian?" 0

There was a moment of silence on the other end before the voice slowly replied, "Yating, your mother has already gone for me; she should be arriving soon." 0

Her fingers trembled slightly as images of her mother's face and cold words surfaced in her mind, causing her heart to panic involuntarily. 0
