Cheng Mosu smiled softly, leaning in his embrace, gazing into those deep Eyes, her heart fluttering. She lowered her gaze and said, "I only asked Feng Yin to call you yesterday. How did you arrive so quickly?"
He paused for a moment, his bright eyes quietly focused on her. The beautiful moonlight cast a thin veil over her, making her already fair skin glow like a delicate gem. He took her small hand and placed her cool Fingertips against his chest, saying lightly, "I was worried something might happen to you, so I took a private jet here."
She was taken aback, her Water-colored Eyes misting over. Her Rose-Colored Lips trembled slightly, as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. The sorrowful events were difficult for her to mention; her heart felt submerged in dark waters, now slowly pierced by a ray of light.
Seeing that she had fallen silent, he understood her thoughts and said, "I've heard about these matters from Feng Yin. Cheng Mosu, it’s hard to say who owes whom or who has repaid their debts. Don’t take it too much to heart."
Her heart raced as her long, feather-like Eyelashes covered her misty eyes. "Shaoyi, I truly am afraid."
He held her tightly in his arms. It had been so long since they had spoken properly; she was still as sentimental as before, which made him feel an overwhelming sense of pity for her. She slowly lifted her gaze to meet his dark pupils and smiled faintly. "How do you plan to handle Miss Jiang's funeral? She no longer has any ties to the Jiang Family; after all, she was once your wife. I think she should be buried as Consort Shangguan..."
"Cheng Mosu." He gently called her name, stopping her words. Jiang Yating's passing had also caught him off guard, but with the beauty gone, the resentment he had once harbored began to fade away like mist in the sky. What remained was merely a faint remembrance and occasional longing.
He fell silent again, looking out at the brilliant starlight that reflected in his Eyes even more brightly. He said softly, "I think she would want to be buried back in her hometown."
Cheng Mosu also fell silent, simply leaning against him quietly. The calm passage of time and the uncontrollable emotions slowly warmed and fermented in the air. The relief after enduring hardships made her feel drowsy. His gentle laughter echoed in her ears—so long missed yet so endearing.
He said nothing more, seemingly understanding her feelings perfectly. He picked her up effortlessly while Feng Yin hurried out from the corner to guide him. He gently laid her down on the soft bed and pressed a light kiss on her forehead. Her Rose-Colored Lips broke into a soft smile as he spoke tenderly just for her, "Cheng Mosu, sleep peacefully. Goodnight."
She nodded and closed her Eyes, finally relaxing completely. The tension that had gripped her heart for so long found a moment of peace. Unexpected happiness descended upon her; memories of lost loved ones and reconciled feelings flashed through her mind, weaving into a long and colorful dream.
Shangguan Shaoyi gently closed the door behind them while Feng Yin smiled at him. "Son-in-law, ever since you arrived, Miss has been able to sleep soundly."
He frowned, knowing that Cheng Mosu had always had trouble sleeping. After returning to the north, he would find a doctor for her to help her recover. Feng Yin seemed to remember something and said excitedly, "Son-in-law, you’ve only been talking to the young lady; it seems you haven't gone to see Young Master yet. Let me take you..."
He felt a stir in his heart. Although he wanted to see his child, he shook his head and smiled, "I'll go with her when Cheng Mosu wakes up tomorrow."
Feng Yin was puzzled and noticed his gaze drifting into the distance. His low voice carried a hint of hoarseness as he said, "This is what a home should feel like."
Feng Yin fell silent for a moment before changing the subject. "By the way, Mr. Nan asked Son-in-law to go to his room; he wants to have a chat."
Shangguan Shaoyi nodded and asked Feng Yin to lead the way. He stood at the intricately carved wooden door, and a strong scent of cigar wafted out from inside. He smiled lightly, pushed the door open, and saw Nan Wan holding a cigar between his fingers, smoke curling upwards. He closed the door behind him and said, "Mr. Nan, it's been a long time."
Nan Wan glanced at him and handed him a cigar. He accepted it without hesitation, lit it up, and began to smoke quietly.
"Have you seen her?" Nan Wan asked softly.
He understood that "her" referred not to Cheng Mosu but to Jiang Yating. He smiled knowingly, "Yes, I went to the hospital first to handle matters before coming to your residence."
Nan Wan nodded, feeling relieved. "Among you people, this unspoken entanglement is hard to trace back to its origin or assign blame. But after all this time, neither you nor Cheng Mosu has let go of each other. Life offers few such circumstances; you've missed too much already and truly cannot afford to miss any more in the future."
"Mr. Nan, you're right. Also, thank you for taking care of Cheng Mosu during this time." His eyes softened as thoughts of her stirred the deepest corners of his heart.
Nan Wan waved his hand and smiled, "I care for Cheng Mosu because I admire certain qualities in her; it has nothing to do with whether she is your wife or not. However, now that her father has passed away and she has no support from her family, if you bully her in the future, I will have to step in as her family member. Just see how that goes."
He smiled gently, thinking about how hard it was to reunite with Cheng Mosu; he was too busy cherishing and pampering her to ever think about bullying her. Nevertheless, he nodded and replied, "Alright then; I’ll count on you to keep an eye on things, Mr. Nan."
"Alright, it's getting late, and you've been busy all day. You should rest now."
Shangguan Shaoyi nodded in response, turning to leave. Although he was exhausted from the day, he felt no trace of sleepiness. His icy heart began to slowly melt. He quietly sat by the bed, gazing at Cheng Mosu's delicate sleeping face, feeling as if something had filled his heart, leaving him immensely content.
It was unclear how much time had passed when Cheng Mosu slowly opened her eyes, meeting the gaze that was fixed upon her. She was momentarily taken aback, her cheeks flushing. The purple-gray morning light outside bathed the sky, and she felt a tightness in her chest as she softly said, "Shaoyi, you haven't been resting for this long, have you?"
Seeing her awake brought him natural joy. He replied, "I just wanted to see you."
Cheng Mosu's lips curled into a faint smile, revealing two subtle dimples. When Shangguan Shaoyi noticed she was about to get up, he hurried over to support her. She nestled into his embrace, her long dark hair wrapping around his arm like silk. Breathing in the faint scent of smoke and gunpowder on him made her feel even more tranquil. Then, as if recalling something, she said, "Let me take you to see the child."
