His lips were cold, just like him, devoid of any warmth, lingering on her lips without further movement.
Peering over his shoulder, Yin Luo clearly saw the black dragon robe flash by at the doorway.
Mu Fengyan had left, without a word.
She withdrew her gaze and noticed Mu Changqing remained still. Her hand resting in the crook of his arm tightened involuntarily. Mu Changqing's body noticeably stiffened for a moment before he released her, glanced at her, and said, "Always remember, you are married to this prince; you are my woman!"
Yin Luo raised an eyebrow at him, too lazy to respond. Seeing this, Mu Changqing's eyes turned cold again, and he turned away in frustration, striding out.
It seemed he had known all along that Mu Fengyan had already left, as there was no hint of surprise when he turned around.
Watching him leave, Yin Luo adjusted her wrinkled sleeve and stepped outside.
In the side hall, the other consorts had already taken their places. A spot was left empty at the upper left side, right next to Mu Changqing, clearly reserved for her.
After glancing around, Yin Luo's gaze landed on Mu Fengyan beside her. She hadn’t forgotten that Mu Fengyan had mentioned giving her those prepared items earlier. However, at this moment, Mu Fengyan seemed somewhat awkward and deliberately avoided looking at her.
Perhaps she had been observing Mu Fengyan for too long; when she turned her head, she accidentally met Mu Changqing's gaze. She could see that his eyes had grown even colder. Although his face was hidden beneath a mask, she knew it must be grim.
"Princess Jin, don’t just stand there; please sit down. You're the last one we’re waiting for," Consort Jin Nian Yunshang said with a smile from beside Mu Fengyan. Yin Luo turned to see her beaming face and quickly returned a faint smile before moving forward to sit beside Mu Changqing.
It felt as if a bucket of ice was placed beside her. The weather was already cold, yet this person continued to emit a chill.
Yin Luo subtly shifted her body to the side, a very slight movement that others would not notice. However, just as she settled down, she felt the air beside her grow even colder.
The palace servants began to place the dishes on the table. The cuisine of the palace was naturally exquisite in every way. Not only were the colors vibrant, but the aromas were also enticing, making one’s appetite stir.
However, Yin Luo was not a glutton. It was only when the Empress Dowager instructed everyone to start eating that she picked up her chopsticks and began to eat slowly.
Although it was a home-cooked meal, with so many concubines present, it felt more like a family banquet than a casual meal. Therefore, there wasn’t much food to be had, especially since today she was representing Consort Jin.
The Empress Dowager ordered wine to be served. Although she held the title of Consort Jin, she was still a junior. At the dining table, besides the Empress Dowager, there were also three Grand Consorts, who could all be considered stepmothers to Mu Changqing; thus, she should respect them with a toast.
While many things need not be made explicit, she did not want to cause any trouble or give anyone something to gossip about. Therefore, she followed the etiquette and toasted each one in turn.
There were three Grand Consorts present: Consort Ning, Xiao Consort, and Consort Zheng.
Consort Ning appeared lively and was around ten years old; she was quite engaging. Xiao Consort was more gentle and spoke little but had a warm presence. In contrast, Consort Zheng had a pale complexion that hinted at some illness; she spoke very little and seemed indifferent when looking at Yin Luo, as if she didn’t exist at all.
Even during the cheerful occasion of toasting and celebrating, she merely smiled faintly, raised her glass to drink, and after a couple of light coughs, her face flushed slightly redder, appearing even more physically weakened.
Fortunately, she still remained and continued to dine.
Though everyone had their own thoughts during this simple meal, on the surface it appeared harmonious and joyful.
In her past life, Yin Luo had no issues with alcohol. Now, whether it was due to having a new body or the fact that the palace wine was too strong, after only five cups, she felt dizzy and nearly fell over when she stood up.
Not only was she dizzy, but her vision was also blurred!
She grabbed the sleeve of Mu Changqing beside her to steady herself. When she looked up, the faces of those around her were swaying and unclear.
After finally stabilizing herself, she clearly sensed someone approaching: "Consort Jin, are you unable to handle your drink?"
The person who came was Nian Yunshang, standing next to Mu Fengyan. Yin Luo couldn't see his expression clearly; she just tried hard to close her eyes and then open them again. Just as she was about to speak, everything suddenly went dark, and she collapsed straight down.
Mu Changqing was already supporting her, so he naturally caught her. Mu Fengyan reacted quickly and was about to come over to help, but seeing that Mu Changqing had already taken the lead, his outstretched hands froze in place. He glanced at Mu Changqing and then at the unconscious Yin Luo, ultimately saying nothing and walking aside to rest.
Consort Jin glanced at Mu Fengyan, excused herself to Mu Changqing, and followed him. Mu Changqing looked down at Yin Luo in his arms; his gaze darkened. Su Yi rushed in from outside and saw this scene. Noticing how cold Mu Changqing's expression was while looking at Yin Luo, he hurriedly approached: "Prince, why not let this servant take care of the princess? I will ensure she gets home safely."
Mu Changqing shot a glance at Su Yi; just one look was enough to frighten Su Yi away.
"No need," he said expressionlessly. Then he used his arms to lift Yin Luo horizontally with strength.
