Yin Luo withdrew her gaze, lowering her eyes as she quietly leaned against his shoulder, trying not to burden him too much. Little did she know, this made his breathing sound particularly clear, each breath echoing in her ears. For a moment, Yin Luo was lost in thought, but it was only for an instant; she quickly steadied her mind and shifted her focus to the mountain path ahead.
Suddenly, it seemed something was amiss.
The hand of Yin Luo resting on Mu Changqing's shoulder couldn't help but tighten as she whispered, "Prince?"
Mu Changqing did not turn around but lowered his voice, saying, "Don't make a sound."
Yin Luo immediately fell silent. Behind them, there were rustling sounds, indicating that there were quite a few people.
Ahead, Mu Li deliberately slowed his pace. Mu Changqing stepped forward and whispered to him, "There are over a hundred people, and they are quite skilled."
Mu Li replied, "Leave Sister Three to me; you focus all your efforts."
Mu Changqing nodded. After taking four or five more steps forward, they suddenly stopped at the same time. When Yin Luo looked up, she saw countless stones rolling down the steep mountain path. The large boulders weighed over a hundred pounds each, as if the mountain itself were collapsing, tumbling down directly towards them.
"Eleven." Mu Changqing called out. Mu Li understood immediately and leaped into the air to dodge a falling boulder while quickly saying, "Third Brother, there are too many of them, and the terrain is against us. If this continues, we will only be at a disadvantage. The only way is to retreat down the mountain for now!"
Carrying Yin Luo, Mu Changqing also dodged several large stones, but the speed at which the rocks were falling was alarming. If this went on for long, with just the two of them, they would surely exhaust themselves.
"If we go down now, then we won't need to come out of this forest today," Mu Changqing shouted loudly. He paused slightly and turned his head slightly towards Yin Luo, asking, "Are you afraid?"
Yin Luo raised her head and looked at the falling boulders. "Do you want to go up?"
A slight smile appeared on Mu Changqing's lips. "That's right. If we stay below, we can only be at a disadvantage. Now we must turn passive into active; first deal with those above before handling those below."
Yin Luo agreed with a nod; at this moment, there was no other option: "Don't worry; as long as you're quick enough, I can take care of myself."
With that, Mu Changqing paused briefly before lightly pushing off with his toes and leaping onto the nearest large tree branch, placing Yin Luo safely on the limb while calling out to Mu Li, "Eleven, it's up to you!"
Mu Li heard this and dodged a nearby flying stone, immediately deciding not to linger in battle. He leaped to the tree where Yin Luo was located and said, "Third Brother, don't worry!"
Mu Changqing glanced at Yin Luo and, upon meeting her steady gaze, he leaped up, his form soaring like a dragon, heading straight for the mountain peak!
As he left, people suddenly appeared from all directions, surrounding them heavily.
"It seems we hit the jackpot this time!" The leader, dressed in black and masked, though his face was obscured, his rat-like eyes were unmistakable. He triumphantly addressed his brothers, "Who would have thought that the two most influential princes of the Exiled Nation would be trapped here? Brothers, capture them at all costs! Once we have them, titles and nobility will be within reach! And I promise you, whoever makes the first contribution will get that beauty!"
At these words, laughter echoed through the forest. Mu Li beside Yin Luo's expression turned cold in an instant. With a flick of his hand, a silver needle shot out from his fingers, aimed directly at the man's brow. However, that man was clearly not easy to deal with; he immediately leaped up to evade the needle.
Turning back, he saw the silver needle embedded five inches into the tree trunk behind him. "Tsk tsk," he remarked. "They say King Qing of the Exiled Nation is a master physician with unparalleled skill in using silver needles. Today I see it’s true; I’m impressed!"
He clasped his fists in a show of admiration but then his gaze turned cold as he darkly said, "It's a pity you'll fall into our hands today. Since you know our identities now, there's no way we can let you go back. This is the price for intruding into Ghost Valley!"
After finishing his words, he waved his hand and commanded, "Brothers, charge! Remember, King Qing and Prince Jin must be captured alive along with that beauty!"
"Yes," they responded in unison as they flew towards Mu Li and Yin Luo.
Without hesitation, Mu Li flipped his fingers; each of his ten fingers now held a gleaming silver needle. His gaze turned icy as he sneered, "Not even an army could stop us; what are you few mountain bandits capable of?"
With a sweep of his arm, the silver needles flew out—some missed their targets while others struck their waists, legs, and backs of their hands.
He targeted vital points; thus those hit inevitably lost half their strength in an instant.
Amidst the cries of agony, four men fell together. The leader's eyes grew fiercer as he said, "Even if your skills are high, you can't match our numbers!"
With that, he charged forward himself; this time his target was not Mu Li but Yin Luo.
Mu Li was surrounded by more than ten black-clad men and couldn't protect Yin Luo. However, Yin Luo was not defenseless either; she reacted swiftly and swung her whip upward.
The first whip missed its target, and she immediately swung the second whip. This time, however, the person was already on guard. As her whip lashed out, he extended his sword and swiftly snatched the whip from her hand. At the same time, he used the momentum from pulling away to leap behind her.
Yin Luo instinctively bent down to avoid him. As he flew past her side, he suddenly reached out and snatched away her hairpin!
Since she had entered the forest to find someone, Yin Luo had disliked her hair getting in the way and had instructed someone to style it into a bun on top of her head, disguising herself as a man. Now that the hairpin was gone, her long hair, which cascaded down to her waist like a waterfall, fell freely around her, blowing wildly in the wind. In that fleeting moment, it caused everyone engaged in the fight to pause.
What kind of beauty was that?
Standing alone on the tree, she appeared like a fairy descended from heaven, isolated from the world. Her graceful figure shone like the pure light of the moon, her beauty reminiscent of flowing water. Dressed in a black robe, it accentuated her red lips and white teeth against porcelain-like skin. With bright eyes and a captivating gaze that seemed both affectionate and indifferent, she mesmerized those around her.
As her long hair danced chaotically in the air, suddenly one person let out a howl and crazily charged at Mu Li. Then everyone else, as if they had spotted an immense treasure, surrounded him.
With his sword in hand, Mu Li remained calm and ensured that Yin Luo stayed within his control.
The Leader watched as his subordinates went mad; his cold gaze fixed on the struggle. Suddenly, his eyes turned icy as he charged at Yin Luo again.
This Leader was exceptionally skilled in martial arts; Yin Luo was no match for him. However, she naturally would give it her all. As he lunged at her, she quickly drew a dagger and focused on his movements, ready to counter!
However, she did not get the chance to act.
A scream escaped from the Leader's mouth. Yin Luo focused her gaze and saw that his sword-wielding hand had been pierced by a branch. He fell to the ground in pain, rolling about, while on the other side, Mu Changqing in black flew over.
He was unscathed; his clothes remained spotless as before.
Landing on the tree, his gaze fell upon Yin Luo's cascading hair. His eyes darkened as he immediately took off his outer robe and wrapped it around her head completely before saying, "Wait for me here."
Yin Luo obediently nodded. Mu Changqing then turned his attention back to Mu Li who was still fighting. Extending his arm, he grasped his sword firmly.
He leaped down and swung his sword simultaneously; several people below immediately fell to the ground, successfully creating an opening for Mu Li to escape from encirclement.
Mu Li saw him return and couldn't help but take a deep breath, saying, "Third Brother, you finally came back! If you hadn't returned, I would have been unable to hold on any longer!"
Mu Changqing glanced at him and replied, "Don't worry, even if I were to abandon you, I would never leave my princess behind!"
Mu Li stared at him in shock, seemingly not expecting him to be this kind of person. Suddenly, Mu Changqing lunged at him with his sword, and Mu Li stood frozen in place, as if stunned into inaction.
With one thrust, Mu Changqing killed a royal guard and turned to glance at him. "What are you still standing there for? Go escort your sister-in-law; I'll clear the way!"
Only then did Mu Li dare not delay any longer. He hurried back up the tree to stand with Yin Luo.
He glanced at Yin Luo and noticed her gaze fixed on Mu Changqing below, who was bravely fighting. He suddenly said, "Having followed Third Brother for so many years, I've never seen him so serious."
Yin Luo shot him a look. "What are you trying to say?"
Mu Li smiled slightly and said, "On the surface, Third Brother seems indifferent to others, but in reality, he is the most sentimental. The person he is willing to risk his life for must be someone he wants to protect in this lifetime. I can see that Sister Three's feelings don't seem to be directed towards Third Brother; she is just confused by her own situation, and Third Brother can't see through it."
"I just hope Sister Three won't hurt him. He has already tasted the pain of betrayal from someone close; such pain is enough for a lifetime. If it happens again, I'm afraid he will never believe in love again."
