Yin Luo responded and prepared to mount the horse. Qin Liuyuan called out to her, draping a black cloak over her shoulders. "There are Xiyu soldiers outside. Your Highness, your appearance is too noticeable; it's safer to wear this."
Yin Luo glanced at Qin Liuyuan and had to admit that his attentiveness at this moment proved she had not chosen the wrong person.
After putting on the hood, Yin Luo mounted the horse. He Ren and Qin Liuyuan then leaped onto their horses, escorting Yin Luo away in front and behind.
The road was filled with fleeing citizens.
After half an hour, they finally reached the North Gate, which was evidently a scene of heavy casualties. Many bodies lay on the ground, and upon seeing three fine steeds rush in, the survivors quickly realized that important people had arrived and hurriedly surrounded them.
He Ren drew his sword and swiftly dealt with the two closest threats. The people from Exiled Nation recognized He Ren as the personal guard of the prince and rushed forward to engage with the Xiyu soldiers, clearing a path for them.
He Ren wasted no time, uttering a single word: "Go," and led Yin Luo deeper into the fray.
As they fought their way through, He Ren became increasingly fierce, while Yin Luo closely followed him. Her white outer robe soon splattered with blood, the strong metallic scent filling her nostrils. With a calm gaze, she tightened her grip on the whip, continuously dispatching those who came too close.
"Prince!"
Suddenly, He Ren called out. Yin Luo looked up to see Mu Changqing on horseback amidst the crowd, wielding a long spear. The bodies around him piled up like small mountains as he cut down anyone who approached. Upon hearing He Ren's voice, he turned and immediately spotted them.
Seeing Yin Luo, Mu Changqing's eyes sharpened momentarily before a slight smile appeared on his lips. He quickly dispatched those around him and then suddenly rose from his horse, landing steadily on the back of Yin Luo's horse.
"Are you afraid?" His voice carried a rough edge as he spoke to Yin Luo. He wrapped his long arm around her reins with one hand while using the other to wield his spear against the relentless tide of enemies.
"I'm not afraid." Yin Luo's voice was calm and steady as she turned to look at Mu Changqing's mask splattered with blood and his keen eagle-like eyes that sparkled with determination. "I'm not afraid; you said that as long as I draw breath, you will ensure my safety."
Mu Changqing suddenly burst into laughter. "Good! This prince will carve a bloody path for my princess!"
In an instant, Mu Changqing seemed invigorated, striking down enemies without hesitation.
Yin Luo did not strike again but nestled quietly in his embrace, watching him slay countless Xiyu generals until those enemies began to retreat in fear, unwilling to advance any further.
"Kill! Those who disobey shall be executed!"
The commanding general shouted, and in an instant, the figures below trembled, rushing towards them.
Mu Changqing's gaze turned cold as she suddenly said to Yin Luo, "May I borrow your hairpin?"
Yin Luo did not respond, but Mu Changqing pulled the hairpin from her hood, her eyes fixed on the general. With a swift motion of her arm, her gaze seemed to shoot out like a sharp sword, locking onto the man. Just as she was about to release the pin, it was suddenly snatched away by someone.
Yin Luo turned to him with a smile and said, "There's no need for the prince to take action personally in such matters."
Her delicate hand lifted gracefully. After locking onto the general, she gathered strength in her arm, tightened her grip on the hairpin, and suddenly threw it at him.
A scream echoed as the pin struck true, hitting the man squarely in the neck.
"Good skill!" Mu Changqing's eyes lit up as she fired several shots, splattering blood everywhere.
With the general suddenly dead, the Xiyu People below fell into chaos. Meanwhile, the Exiled Nation's people were invigorated by this turn of events and rallied together to slay many foes.
The city gate was within reach; seeing a chance to break through, the group quickened their pace while those below fought valiantly to protect their escape.
Just then, someone from Xiyu shouted loudly, "The prince has arrived!"
In an instant, the atmosphere below erupted. The Xiyu People, who had just been retreating steadily, surged forward like they had been injected with adrenaline, raising their weapons against the Exiled Nation.
"This is bad! He Ren, take the princess away immediately. If she loses even a single hair on her head, I will hold you accountable!"
He Ren's expression darkened but he could not disobey Mu Changqing's orders. After acknowledging her command, he suddenly leaped off his horse to clear a path through the Xiyu People blocking their way. Meanwhile, Mu Changqing mounted his horse; it neighed loudly and reared up on its hind legs, startling those nearby into retreating several steps. Seizing the opportunity, Mu Changqing thrust her spear forward and quickly dispatched them.
With He Ren clearing a path ahead of her, she followed closely behind. In the midst of thousands of soldiers, he indeed carved out a way for Yin Luo.
"Prince, come with us!"
He Ren refused to leave without Mu Changqing and knelt on the ground, pleading for her to go with him.
Mu Changqing's expression darkened as she suddenly pressed her spear against He Ren's neck. "This is an order; you must obey!"
He Ren raised his head, his eyes bloodshot: "The princess has the Qin Girl to protect her. My duty is to protect you, my lord. Even if you kill me, I will not leave!"
"My lord." Yin Luo, riding on horseback, had her face hidden beneath her hood, making it impossible to discern her expression. However, her voice was steady and calm, "Let him follow you. I will disguise myself as an ordinary person and blend in with the common folk. With Liu Que's protection, there will be no issues."
Mu Changqing stared at her, unwilling to relent. Yin Luo then added, "Let him protect you. I will wait for your safe return at the palace!"
Mu Changqing's gaze shifted slightly as he deeply regarded Yin Luo. After a long pause, he said, "Alright, Nie Qingcheng, you must remember that no matter what happens, you will always be my Mu Changqing's woman!"
Yin Luo smiled faintly: "Alright, as long as you come back alive!"
There was a flicker in Mu Changqing's eyes; they shone brightly: "I will definitely return safely!"
With that, he turned his spear behind him, pulled the reins, and as the horse turned its head, he spurred it forward. His armor glimmered brilliantly in the sunlight as he charged in with imposing presence.
He Ren followed closely behind.
Yin Luo watched his figure fade into the distance. With her gaze lowered, she immediately turned her horse around and galloped away with Qin Liuque.
There were many refugees. After disguising themselves, they joined the flow of people entering Ganlin.
Fenghua's troubles had long been heard of in Ganlin. Unfortunately, they were suffering from a lack of military support. Thus, all they could do was accept the fleeing citizens and provide them with shelter to protect them from Zhao Qian.
Fortunately, there were no Xiyu troops in Ganlin. With Fenghua blocking the way ahead, although Ganlin was also in danger, it remained safe for the time being.
Yin Luo had Qin Liuque procure two sets of men's clothing. Once both she and Qin Liuque were dressed as men, she felt reassured and spent the night resting in the refugee camp. The next morning, they rode out of the city and left Ganlin.
Qin Liuque followed behind Yin Luo and noticed that Yin Luo was heading in a direction that was not toward Lidu. She immediately called out: "Young Master, that way is not the road to Lidu."
Yin Luo turned her head to look at her without stopping her horse and suddenly smiled faintly, giving her a nonchalant smile: "When did I ever say I was going to Lidu?"
Qin Liuque was taken aback and quickly urged her horse to catch up with Yin Luo, blocking her path: "What does the princess mean?"
Yin Luo also stopped her horse and looked at her: "This marriage has never been my intention. Liuque, you are someone close to Father Emperor; you should know how unwilling I was to marry back then. Now that Fenghua is at war and Mu Changqing is in Fenghua City—he doesn't even know whether he is alive or dead—how can he care about me? Even if he survives this calamity amidst countless refugees, no matter how powerful he is, in such chaotic circumstances, he will absolutely not be able to track our whereabouts."
"As long as I hide my identity from now on and immediately go to Li Country, he will never know that I am still alive!"
"Princess..." Qin Liu Yan was shocked. Not to mention how Mu Changqing had saved her several times, she had refused to leave that day, and even she had mistakenly thought that she had feelings for Jin Wang. In reality, it was all just their misunderstanding.
The reason she didn't leave was that there was no suitable opportunity. The reason she treated him well was to lower his guard, making it easier for her to find a chance to escape amidst such chaos.
Was this person really their princess? Her schemes were so profound! Especially during the Fenghua battle, she had utilized the situation so seamlessly. It seemed like she had always been helping them, but at a crucial moment, she took the opportunity to slip away like a golden cicada shedding its shell.
"Does the princess really think we can successfully leave?"
"Of course," Yin Luo replied. "Do you remember the refugee camp where we stayed? I have already instructed someone that once everyone leaves, they will immediately burn down that camp. This way, even if our whereabouts are investigated later, they will only think we died in the fire."
Qin Liu Yan was left speechless in shock. She couldn't believe that a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl could come up with such a flawless plan. While amazed, she felt that this person was truly terrifying!
As the leader of the Palace Guard, responsible for the safety of everyone in the palace, having lived in the palace since childhood, she naturally knew that anyone raised in the palace would not be simple. Yet, she never expected someone as clever as this would emerge.
She looked at Yin Luo for a long time and said, "Then where should we go?"
