Yaochi, the mother opens the ornate window,
The sound of the Huang Bamboo Song resonates with sorrow.

Explanation of the Poem's Meaning:
This poem narrates a story from ancient mythology, expressing the poet's lament over the passing of beautiful things. "Yaochi, the mother opens the ornate window" describes the legendary residence of the Queen Mother of the West, Yaochi. The Queen Mother of the West is a goddess in Taoism who lives in Yaochi, and this line depicts her opening a splendid window, evoking an ethereal impression.
"The sound of the Huang Bamboo Song resonates with sorrow" refers to the mournful and moving song of the Huang Bamboo Song, which is often considered a song of ancient frontier soldiers, hinting at human sadness and separation.
"The eight steeds travel thirty thousand miles in a day" mentions King Mu of Zhou's eight fine horses that can travel thirty thousand miles in one day. This line exaggerates the grandeur of King Mu's journeys, symbolizing his longing and pursuit of Yaochi.
"Why does King Mu not return again?" expresses the poet's question about why King Mu has not been able to return to Yaochi, suggesting the fleeting nature of beautiful moments and their irretrievability. The entire poem uses references to ancient mythological stories to convey the poet's yearning for beauty and reflection on the passage of time. Li Shangyin showcases his profound literary skill and understanding of traditional culture through this poem.
Story Title: The Secret of Yaochi
In a distant celestial realm, there is a beautiful place called Yaochi.
In Yaochi lives a fairy who wears a rainbow-colored long dress, adorned with a floral crown, possessing a gentle smile and eyes that speak.
My name is A Yao, a fairy from Yaochi.
I have a magical window through which I can see all the beauty of the human world.
Spring, summer, autumn, winter.
The scenery of the four seasons changes like a passing parade, dazzling and delightful.
I see kites soaring in the blue sky.
I see lanterns lighting up the streets during the festival.
I see smiling faces blooming under the fireworks.
I can't help but want to invite a little friend from the human world to visit Yaochi.
So, I looked through the enchanting window and saw you.
Your name is Xiaoyong, a brave child.
You are always smiling, carefree and happy.
You return a lost kitten to its mother.
You help a little girl who has fallen down.
You lend your umbrella to a classmate who forgot theirs.
You are a kind child; you should see a more beautiful world.
I opened the window.
That soft sound seemed like a whisper from the heavenly realm.
Xiaoyong smiled in his dream as he heard a voice.
"Please come to Yaochi as my guest."
Xiaoyong woke up.
He patted his pillow, which made a soft gurgling sound.
"Was it a dream?"
No, it was not a dream.
The warm glow shone through the ornate window, golden and silver, like countless stars twinkling. Xiaoyong smiled; he had made up his mind to visit Yaochi. He packed his belongings, mounted his beloved white horse, and set off for Yaochi.
Riding his white horse, he passed through the woods, crossed hills, and forded rivers. Along the way, he encountered a yellow bird that could not sing. The yellow bird began to sing a sorrowful song. Xiaoyong comforted it and shared stories of Yaochi. After hearing Xiaoyong's words, the yellow bird stopped being sad and started singing a cheerful tune again.
Xiaoyong continued on his white horse, traversing through snowstorms, walking across deserts, and climbing over snowy mountains. He faced many challenges and adventures along the way. However, he never complained or gave up. He wanted to live up to A Yao's expectations and reach Yaochi safely.
Riding Lightning, he raced towards Yaochi, passing through dense forests and crossing wide rivers. Excitement sparkled in Xiaoyong's eyes as the light from the ornate window illuminated his face. "Lightning, we are almost at Yaochi!" Lightning neighed and quickened its pace.
They journeyed through snowstorms, walked across deserts, and climbed over snowy mountains. Along the way, they encountered many difficulties and challenges. Yet, Xiaoyong never complained or gave up. He wanted to fulfill A Yao's expectations and arrive at Yaochi smoothly.
Xiaoyong rode Lightning onward until they finally reached a beautiful grassland. The grassland was filled with colorful flowers, and vibrant butterflies danced gracefully in the air.
