Jenny paced anxiously by the well, tightly gripping the rope that connected her to the rescuers below. She leaned over the edge from time to time, calling out loudly, "What's the situation down there?"
The rescuers below were carefully feeling their way through the dim environment. Hearing Jenny's shout, one of them paused, looked up toward the well opening, and replied, "There's nothing unusual down here, but there is an opening."
"An opening?" Jenny widened her eyes slightly, disbelief etched on her face.
Instinctively, she turned to glance at Yang Luo, Bai Qi, and the two others behind her. Yang Luo stood with his arms crossed over his chest, a slight frown on his face as if deep in thought.
Bai Qi was stroking his chin, a hint of confusion in his gaze.
Breaking the silence, Bai Qi spoke softly, "I grew up here. Although outsiders are not allowed to use this well, I used to sneak here to play when I was a child. This well has existed since ancient times; how could there be an opening below that no one knows about? That's too strange."
Jenny bit her lip and after a moment of contemplation said, "Could this be why your priest forbids the tribe from using this well? What could be inside that opening?"
As she spoke, her gaze shifted back toward the well's opening, her expression growing increasingly profound.
At that moment, Yang Luo spoke up with a calm and steady voice: "If there is an opening below, then Professor Xu is likely still alive."
A barely perceptible flicker crossed Jenny's brow as she pondered: There’s actually an opening here; why didn’t that group find this out when they searched nearly every corner?
But now was not the time for such thoughts.
She quickly adjusted her demeanor and gestured to the two behind her: "You two stay up here to assist us."
Then she pointed at Yang Luo and Bai Qi: "You two come down with me."
Yang Luo and Bai Qi exchanged glances, both seeing resignation in each other's eyes, but they knew there was no way to avoid this.
As the rope slowly descended, Jenny struggled to keep her breathing steady while carefully observing the situation below the well.
The water here looked particularly murky, emitting a strong, fishy odor that was nauseating.
"What is that smell? Why is it so foul?"
Yang Luo couldn't help but cover his nose with his hand, frowning as he stared intently at the well water.
Bai Qi also frowned; this smell seemed somewhat familiar to him.
He recalled that on the island, there were some marshy areas where this strong odor often emanated, usually because small animals had gotten trapped in the swamp and emitted this scent after being consumed.
He slowly said, "It does smell quite disgusting."
"Shut up," Jenny whispered sharply.
She was currently focused entirely on observing her surroundings and didn't want to be disturbed by their conversation.
Under the illumination of the overhead light, her perfect body curve appeared particularly striking.
Yang Luo pressed his lips together and obediently kept quiet.
Following the faint light in the dimness, the group finally spotted a smooth wall with an opening.
The opening was about one meter in diameter and was an irregular circular hole.
Someone inside the opening waved a light outwards and said, "Jenny, team leader, this opening is quite deep."
Jenny carefully observed the distance between herself and the opening, secretly marveling that although the well opening was narrow, the space below was quite spacious.
There was at least a distance of four to five meters from her to the opening, and she couldn't help but ask, "How do we get over there?"
The person replied, "Jenny, the team leader, the water in this well is not deep; we just tested it."
"Okay." Jenny nodded and then waved her hand upward, "You two go down first."
Yang Luo and Bai Qi exchanged glances, their faces full of reluctance, but they had no choice but to obey the order.
Taking a deep breath, Yang Luo directly let go of the rope and slid into the water.
The top layer of water was relatively clean, reaching only up to his waist.
However, as soon as he touched the bottom of the well, he stirred up a mass of mud with his feet, instantly clouding the entire surface of the water.
Bai Qi twitched his lips and hesitated for a moment before also sliding down along the rope.
The bottom of the well became even dirtier.
Before the two could make their next move, Jenny issued another command: "You come over and pull the rope to get across."
Yang Luo looked around before confirming that Jenny was calling him.
Reluctantly, he grabbed hold of the rope, tightening it step by step as he walked toward the opening.
The opening was not far from the well water, only about twenty centimeters away; he just needed to stretch his leg to reach it.
Seeing that the distance was almost right, Jenny continued to slide down.
Bai Qi also walked over, and suddenly, he stepped on something underfoot that made a creaking sound, splashing water onto the surface.
Bai Qi looked down to check but couldn't see what it was. He thought it was just some dead branches and leaves, so he didn't pay it any mind and continued walking forward.
The cave entrance was too small for adults to stand up straight, so Yang Luo and Bai Qi had to bend down and slowly retreat while pulling Jenny along.
Jenny also curled up, squatting at the entrance of the cave.
She carefully observed the cave entrance and glanced back at the murky, foul-smelling well water behind her, feeling a strange sensation rise within her.
How could an ordinary well be structured like this?
Saying this, she tightened her sleeves and firmly stated, "Let's move forward."
As they stepped into the cave entrance, a damp breeze carrying an ancient aura rushed toward them.
The cave walls shimmered with faint reflections of water, as if they were tears left by time.
The ground beneath their feet was muddy, and above them, they could vaguely hear the sound of water droplets falling from the ceiling, which seemed particularly clear in this silent space.
The light flickered as it reached forward, illuminating the winding passage ahead.
Occasionally, strange patterns could be seen on the cave walls, resembling ancient symbols or remnants of murals eroded by time.
As they passed by, the group couldn't help but take a few extra glances.
The rescue team behind Jenny immediately used the optical brain to record the magical scene inside the cave.
As they ventured deeper into the cave, the air grew increasingly heavy, carrying an indescribable sense of oppression.
They had been crouching low for a while, but soon could no longer bear it and resorted to crawling.
The uneven ground still held puddles, indicating that the water outside was connected to this place. The stone walls around the cave entrance were smooth, and when the light flashed across them, it revealed a glistening sheen of moisture.
The atmosphere was oppressive, but after half an hour, the path ahead began to widen, and they finally emerged from the cave entrance.
Before they could even adjust their clothes, they were stunned by the sight before them.
Not far away on the ground lay an extremely conspicuous mark, resembling the trail left by some large serpentine creature.
Due to the damp environment inside the cave and the illumination from their lights, they could see it very clearly.
At that moment, Jenny and her companions felt their heartbeats quicken involuntarily.
They leaned against each other, nervously watching their surroundings, fearing that something unexpected might suddenly leap out from the darkness.
