Yan Jien decided to venture into the mountains alone to hunt down the Rat King. Yan Weila was very worried, fearing that something might happen to Yan Jien, and she was also scared of being home alone.
"Why don't you come with me?" Yan Jien suggested after a moment of thought.
"Come with you?" Yan Weila was taken aback.
"Yeah, I'm going to find a place to stay at North City Industrial Park. If you're scared, you can come with me..." Yan Jien said.
"Well... okay..." Yan Weila hesitated for a moment before agreeing.
"Alright, go pack your things..." Yan Jien instructed.
"Okay..." Yan Weila nodded and turned to walk into her room.
Half an hour later, they parted ways.
"Be careful..." Yan Weila looked at Yan Jien with a worried expression.
"I know..." Yan Jien smiled, "Don't worry. As long as I'm alive, it can't hurt me..."
"But..." Yan Weila wanted to say more.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine..." Yan Jien interrupted her. "Just remember one thing: don't call the police..."
"Why?" Yan Weila asked, confused.
"Don't ask so many questions; just remember..." Yan Jien replied.
"Alright... fine..." Yan Weila hesitated again but eventually agreed.
"Okay, I'm leaving now..." Yan Jien nodded and turned to go.
"Be careful..." Yan Weila reminded him once more.
"I know..." Yan Jien waved his hand dismissively.
He went downstairs, walked out of Jinyuan Community, and headed towards Jinyuan Mountain.
It was already nine o'clock in the evening; the streets were brightly lit, but Jinyuan Mountain was shrouded in darkness.
As Yan Jien walked through the mountains, he felt invigorated, as if his body was filled with energy. He ran wildly and soon arrived at the edge of a pond.
"This is my first time being out in the wild during the uncontrolled period; it really feels different..." Yan Jien thought to himself.
He looked around but found no trace of the Rat King, so he followed the scent forward.
"This guy has eaten here and left some remnants..." Yan Jien murmured as he observed some gravel on the ground.
The gravel resembled what had been left behind after the Rat King devoured a small Mutant Mouse, clearly indicating it was also from some kind of mutated creature.
"It seems I need to check out Goat Horn Peak..." Yan Jien thought.
He followed the scent left by the Rat King directly towards Goat Horn Peak.
Goat Horn Peak was several kilometers away from Jinyuan Mountain and was the tallest mountain in the vicinity.
Yan Jien tracked diligently and soon arrived near Goat Horn Peak.
"Hmm? Little Mutant Mice?" Yan Jien's expression changed slightly.
He saw several small Mutant Mice flying near Goat Horn Peak, and they flew over as soon as they spotted him.
"Get lost!" Yan Jien growled.
The little Mutant Mice were startled by his voice and quickly flew away.
"This guy is indeed here..." Yan Jien felt a surge of joy in his heart.
He quickened his pace, following the scent toward Goat Horn Peak.
After more than ten minutes, he reached the halfway point up the mountain.
"The scent disappears here..." Yan Jien frowned.
He looked around and noticed a cave not far away.
"Could it be hiding inside there?" Yan Jien thought to himself.
He hesitated for a moment before stepping into the cave.
The cave was very dark, but Yan Jien could see everything clearly.
He discovered that the cave widened and gradually became flat, resembling a long corridor.
"This is evidence of artificial excavation..." Yan Jien was astonished.
He carefully examined his surroundings and found that both sides and the ceiling of the cave were made of blocks of bluestone, with marks left by axes on them.
"It seems that someone used to live here..." Yan Jien pondered.
He continued forward, and a few minutes later, he entered a large cavern.
The cavern was very damp, with many stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
"This guy really knows how to pick a place..." Yan Jien sneered.
He sensed that the Mouse King was inside this cavern.
Following the scent, he arrived at a corner and discovered a pool of water.
The water in the pool was very clear, but there was nothing inside it.
"Not here?" Yan Jien frowned.
He looked around but found no traces at all.
"Could it be somewhere else?" Yan Jien wondered to himself.
Continuing to follow the scent, he soon found another cavern.
This cavern was very narrow and even darker inside.
Yan Jien moved forward through the cavern, and after a few minutes, he arrived at an even smaller cavern.
This cavern was only a few dozen square feet but was very dry.
"This should be the Mouse King's lair..." Yan Jien thought to himself.
He surveyed the cavern and noticed some animal remains in the corner, all of which were mutated creatures.
"Sure enough, it's here..." Yan Jien felt a surge of joy in his heart. He sensed that the Rat King was nearby, but he couldn't pinpoint its exact location. He searched around but found no trace.
"Could it not be here?" Yan Jien frowned. He could feel that the Rat King was indeed close, so why couldn't he find it?
"Hey? What's that over there?" Yan Jien suddenly paused. He noticed a hole in the opposite cliff.
As he approached, he discovered that moonlight was streaming through the hole. "So there's a cave here..." Yan Jien realized.
He examined it closely and found that the hole was very small; he couldn't fit through it at all. "Looks like I'll have to destroy this cave..." Yan Jien thought to himself.
He stepped back a few paces, took a deep breath, and punched the top of the cave with all his might. With a loud bang, a large hole was blasted open at the top of the cave. Moonlight poured in through the opening, illuminating the entire cave brightly.
"Sure enough, it's here..." Yan Jien looked inside the hole and felt ecstatic. He saw that the Rat King was right there, and beside it were a bunch of cubs. These cubs looked exactly like the Rat King, just smaller in size.
"Are these the Rat King's offspring?" Yan Jien was astonished. He sensed that the Rat King was in a deep sleep while those cubs were wide awake, staring at him with hateful eyes.
"These things can't be left alive..." Yan Jien thought to himself as he prepared to jump over and eliminate all the cubs. Just then, the Rat King suddenly stirred and poked its head out.
"Damn, this is bad..." Yan Jien was struck with fear.
