At five in the morning, Yan Jien woke up on time and found himself in Yan Weila's embrace, sleeping in her bed.
Yan Jien was taken aback for a moment, feeling a bit surprised, but he quickly came to terms with it. Since the situation had already occurred, he decided to go with the flow and not dwell on it any longer.
He thought to himself that he neither liked nor disliked Yan Weila; he simply felt sorry for her and wanted to help. Moreover, Yan Jien did not believe he was qualified for a romantic relationship. He was a Mutant Human, with an uncertain future ahead of him—whether he could live to old age was already a question, so why drag others down with him?
Additionally, he was infertile. Yan Jien had already researched his condition; it was nearly impossible for someone like him to have offspring. Of course, nothing is absolute; perhaps in the future, medical advancements could cure him, allowing him to marry and have children, living a happy life. However, that possibility was slim.
On the other hand, Yan Weila had a six-year-old daughter. In that regard, they seemed quite compatible. Unfortunately, Yan Jien was a Mutant Human; although he possessed formidable combat abilities, he could not provide a sense of security for his family, let alone carry on the family line. Thus, Yan Jien maintained a pessimistic view towards marriage and the future.
Since he couldn't fall back asleep, Yan Jien lay in bed contemplating life. After a while, he suddenly remembered something: the ten little white rabbits that had just been injected with T Liquid last night—he wondered how they were doing now.
Yan Jien focused his attention and began to sense their condition. Soon, his expression grew serious. Three of the ten little white rabbits were dead!
His heart sank as he immediately got out of bed and headed to the laboratory. He put on gloves and examined the deceased rabbits. The three dead rabbits varied in size; two were pregnant females and one was a male. Their eyes were slightly bulging, mouths open, and limbs stiff—there were no visible external injuries.
Yan Jien donned a mask and took out a scalpel to perform an autopsy. The internal organs showed no obvious signs of disease.
Furrowing his brow in deep thought, Yan Jien wondered if there was an issue with the T Liquid. Suddenly, a possibility struck him: while T Liquid could improve physical condition, it required the presence of mutant genes as a prerequisite. If that prerequisite was not met, T Liquid might not be a remedy but rather a poison!
However, Yan Jien had conducted experiments on the lab mouse without any abnormalities appearing. Perhaps it was a dosage issue? Yan Jien thought of another possibility. Last night, when Yan Jien injected the little rabbit with T Liquid, the dosage was several times higher than what was previously given to the little mouse! If it really was a dosage problem, that would be serious trouble! Yan Jien originally intended to use T Liquid to improve his parents' health, prolong their lives, and also help Dou Dou with her asthma... Now it seemed that this plan would have to be shelved.
Yan Jien looked at the dead rabbit on the ground, feeling very heavy-hearted. Next, he checked the remaining seven little rabbits and found that they were still alive, which relieved him somewhat. However, Yan Jien still felt uneasy, so he opened the surveillance footage to review last night's video. He sped up the playback until around three in the morning when abnormalities began to appear. Three dead rabbits suddenly became agitated, crashing around in their cage until they quieted down an hour later. This symptom resembled that of the white rabbits infected with Wolf Poison but was not exactly the same.
Yan Jien couldn't be sure whether T Liquid was to blame. Regardless, T Liquid could not be used for now, at least not on humans. Thinking this over, Yan Jien set aside the T Liquid he had originally planned to give Dou Dou. After handling the ten little rabbits, the sun had already risen in the east. Yan Jien wiped his sweat and was about to head back to his room for a shower when he suddenly received a WeChat message.
"Mr. Yan, are you up yet?" It was from Yan Weila.
Yan Jien smiled and replied, "Yes, I got up at five."
"Really? Is that true?" Yan Weila sent a surprised emoji.
"Of course it's true; I usually get up at five," Yan Jien responded.
"Then don't you only sleep for an hour every day?" Yan Weila sent another surprised emoji.
"Yeah," Yan Jien replied.
"That's amazing! How do you do it?" Yan Weila sent an admiring emoji.
"Maybe it's a genetic mutation," Yan Jien replied. "Not only has my sleep time decreased, but my appetite has also increased; I need to eat several meals a day."
"It would be great if Dou Dou could have a genetic mutation too," Yan Weila suddenly said. "That way she wouldn't get sick!"
"..." Yan Jien paused for a moment before saying, "Genetic mutations aren't as good as you think; most organisms that undergo mutations end up dying."
"Really? That's so scary!" Yan Weila sent a terrified emoji.
"Yes," Yan Jien replied.
"How about you? You also experienced a genetic mutation, and now you're doing fine, right?" Yan Weila asked.
"I..." Yan Jien thought for a moment and replied, "I did experience a genetic mutation, but I don't know if I'll be okay for long."
"You definitely will!" Yan Weila comforted him.
"I hope so," Yan Jien responded.
"By the way, when are you going back?" Yan Weila changed the subject.
"I'll head back after I finish dealing with things today," Yan Jien replied. "Do you want to take a break?"
"No need, I'm going to make breakfast for you right now!" Yan Weila said.
"Don't bother," Yan Jien quickly replied.
"It's no trouble at all. Just wait for me for a bit," Yan Weila insisted.
"Well... okay then," Yan Jien had no choice but to agree.
"You should go take a shower first. I'll call you when I'm done," Yan Weila said.
"Alright," Yan Jien nodded.
While showering, Yan Jien was still thinking about T Liquid. He felt that T Liquid was not as simple as it seemed. Perhaps he should return to his hometown and study that mutated mountain hare.
After finishing his shower, Yan Jien came to the living room in his pajamas. At that moment, Yan Weila was changing clothes in the bedroom. As he casually glanced over, he noticed a box at the bottom of her wardrobe. The pattern on the box looked somewhat familiar...
As Yan Jien was pondering this, Yan Weila came out after changing her clothes. She saw him staring at her wardrobe and followed his gaze to the box.
Yan Weila's face flushed red as she quickly closed the wardrobe door. "Um... I'm going to make you breakfast..." she said, blushing.
"Oh, okay," Yan Jien nodded.
