"Liya, wake up!" In the morning, Tong Qingqing shouted towards Tong Liya's room.
"Mom, let me sleep a little longer, just a bit!" Tong Liya covered her head with the blanket, unwilling to get up.
"You child, why are you getting lazier and lazier?" Tong Qingqing said helplessly as she entered the room and pulled back the blanket.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Tong Liya sat up with an annoyed expression.
"What time is it? Hurry up and get up for breakfast!" Tong Qingqing took the blanket out of the room.
"I'm not eating!" Tong Liya lay back down angrily.
"Why are you so disobedient?" Tong Qingqing said angrily.
"Mom, I only slept for a few hours!" Tong Liya complained.
"Who told you not to go to bed earlier last night?" Tong Qingqing shot a glare at her daughter.
"I couldn't fall asleep!" Tong Liya sat up again.
"Then get up and eat breakfast!" Tong Qingqing said.
"I'm not eating!" Tong Liya huffed.
"Fine, if you're not eating, then forget it!" Tong Qingqing was too lazy to argue and turned to leave.
"..." Tong Liya sat on the bed, fuming and motionless.
After a few minutes, feeling hungry, she had no choice but to get up.
When she arrived in the living room, she saw her mother sitting at the dining table drinking porridge.
"Mom, have you eaten?" Tong Liya sat down and took a bowl to serve herself porridge.
"I have," Tong Qingqing replied.
"Oh." Tong Liya took a sip of porridge.
"Liya, I want to discuss something with you," Tong Qingqing said.
"What is it?" Tong Liya asked.
"Let's move," Tong Qingqing looked at her daughter.
"Move?" Tong Liya was taken aback, "Where are we moving to?"
"To another city," Tong Qingqing answered.
"Why do we have to move?" Tong Liya asked in confusion.
"This place is not safe," Tong Qingqing said.
"Not safe?" Tong Liya asked, puzzled. "Why isn't it safe?"
Tong Qingqing opened her mouth but didn't know how to respond.
"Mom, I don't want to move!" Tong Liya said. "I have a lot of friends here, and many classmates. If we leave, I won't have any friends!"
"You can make new friends!" Tong Qingqing replied.
"That's not the same!" Tong Liya shook her head.
"Liya, listen to your mother," Tong Qingqing urged. "It really isn't safe here. What if..."
"Mom, are you hiding something from me?" Tong Liya stared at her mother.
"I..." Tong Qingqing hesitated.
"Mom, what's going on?" Tong Liya pulled on her mother's hand.
"Sigh!" Tong Qingqing sighed. "This is a long story."
"Then just make it short," Tong Liya said.
Tong Qingqing thought for a moment and said, "Do you remember the last time you were kidnapped?"
"Of course I remember!" Tong Liya nodded.
"That kidnapping wasn't random," Tong Qingqing said. "Someone wanted to use you for illegal activities!"
"Who?" Tong Liya gasped.
"The boss who wanted to buy your kidney!" Tong Qingqing said.
"Huh?" Tong Liya's eyes widened. "Isn't that case already closed?"
"No," Tong Qingqing shook her head.
"Then..." Tong Liya's expression changed.
"Liya, we can't fight against them," Tong Qingqing said. "We should move away from here, as far as possible!"
Tong Liya fell silent.
"Liya, I'm doing this for your own good!" Tong Qingqing patted her daughter's head.
"Mom, I can't leave!" Tong Liya shook her head.
"Why not?" Tong Qingqing asked in confusion.
"I just resigned and I'm getting ready to start over," Tong Liya said. "If I leave now, won't all the time I've spent these past few years be in vain?"
"..." Tong Qingqing opened her mouth, unsure how to respond.
"And what will you do if I leave?" Tong Liya looked at her mother. "Your flower shop has just started to pick up; you can't just give up now, can you?"
"..." Tong Qingqing remained silent.
"Mom, don't worry," Tong Liya comforted her. "We will be fine."
"Sigh!" Tong Qingqing sighed.
"Mom, let's eat!" Tong Liya said.
"..." Tong Qingqing had no choice but to nod.
After finishing breakfast, Tong Liya went back to her room to change clothes before heading out to work.
Watching her daughter's figure fade away, Tong Qingqing felt anxious. She wanted to tell her daughter the truth but feared that she wouldn't be able to accept it. Moreover, even if she told her, it would be useless. Her daughter's genes had already changed; there was no way to revert them!
"Is this fate?" Tong Qingqing lamented inwardly.
Yan Jien was walking in the square with his father, Yan Xuelin. The square in the early morning was fresh and sparsely populated, making it a great place for a stroll.
Of course, Yan Jien wasn't there just to walk; he was accompanying his father.
"Xiao Yan, you haven't had any issues lately, right?" Yan Xuelin asked.
"No, why?" Yan Jien replied, puzzled.
"I feel like something's off with you..." Yan Xuelin looked at his son.
"..." Yan Jien's heart skipped a beat as he forced himself to remain calm. "No, I'm doing fine."
"Really?" Yan Xuelin stared at his son.
"Yeah." Yan Jien nodded.
"..." After a moment of silence, Yan Xuelin asked, "Then why have you grown so tall?"
"Well..." Yan Jien scratched his head. "I don't really know."
"Do you have some kind of problem?" Yan Xuelin asked.
"Problem?" Yan Jien was taken aback. "No, not at all!"
"Really not?" Yan Xuelin was skeptical.
"Really!" Yan Jien affirmed.
"Then how come... you are so tall?" Yan Xuelin asked again.
"Well..." Yan Jien felt awkward and didn't know how to respond.
"..." Yan Xuelin's expression darkened. "Are you... not interested in women?"
"Huh?" Yan Jien was shocked. "No, that's not it!"
"Then why haven't you had a girlfriend all this time?" Yan Xuelin glared at his son.
"I..." Yan Jien was suddenly at a loss for words.
"If you don't like women, I won't let you off the hook!" Yan Xuelin said angrily.
"Dad, I really like women!" Yan Jien said with a wry smile.
"Then why haven't you had a girlfriend?" Yan Xuelin asked.
"I... I just haven't met the right one yet," Yan Jien replied.
"..." Yan Xuelin stared at his son for a while and said, "It better be that way!"
"..." Yan Jien felt both amused and helpless.
After that, the father and son took a stroll around the square before heading home.
When they arrived home, Ye Qinhua had already prepared breakfast.
After Yan Jien and his father finished washing up, they sat down to eat.
"Xiao Yan, later I talked to your Third Uncle about going to his house," Ye Qinhua said.
"What for?" Yan Jien was surprised.
"For a blind date!" Ye Qinhua replied.
"..." Yan Jien was instantly speechless.
