Under his mother's urging, Yan Jien attended a matchmaking event. The woman's family owned a grocery store in town, and after Yan Jien and his mother arrived, they sat down under the awning at the entrance. The woman's parents and relatives were also present, and everyone chatted together, mainly with the woman's mother talking to Ye Qinhua. Yan Jien only occasionally chimed in, spending most of the time listening.
The woman was not particularly beautiful, but she wasn't unattractive either; she was at least passable. Yan Jien's demeanor was rather indifferent, which left the woman's family somewhat dissatisfied, but they couldn't say much. After all, matchmaking is about freedom and willingness; no one can be forced into it.
At noon, Yan Jien and his mother returned home.
"Xiao Yan, what do you think?" Ye Qinhua asked eagerly.
"What do you mean?" Yan Jien feigned ignorance.
"The girl!" Ye Qinhua clarified.
"She's okay," Yan Jien replied.
"Do you have confidence?" Ye Qinhua pressed.
"What confidence?" Yan Jien was puzzled.
"To win her over!" Ye Qinhua said.
"..." Yan Jien was at a loss for words. "Mom, this kind of thing can't be forced."
"How is it forcing?" Ye Qinhua said unhappily. "I think that girl is quite nice. If you could bring her home as your wife, I would feel relieved!"
"..." Yan Jien felt helpless and changed the subject. "By the way, Mom, what did they say?"
"What did they say?" Ye Qinhua was taken aback.
"I mean..." Yan Jien hesitated for a moment and asked, "Did they mention how much the betrothal gift is?"
"..." Ye Qinhua's expression changed. "Why are you asking this?"
"I'm just curious," Yan Jien replied.
"..." Ye Qinhua stared at her son. "Do you not want to get married?"
"No!" Yan Jien denied it.
"Then why are you asking about the betrothal gift?" Ye Qinhua was displeased.
"I..." Yan Jien didn't know how to explain.
"I'll tell you," Ye Qinhua said seriously. "You don't need to worry about the betrothal gift!"
"Then what should I worry about?" Yan Jien was exasperated.
"You just focus on dating well!" Ye Qinhua instructed.
"..." Yan Jien had no response.
Once home, Yan Jien pushed the matter aside. In the afternoon, he went to town to buy some things to take to his grandmother the next day. Early the next morning, after getting ready, he set out with gifts in hand. It was his grandmother's birthday, and many relatives had come over; upon his arrival, he was surrounded by relatives asking questions left and right, which was quite bothersome.
"Xiao Yan, do you have a partner?" third Aunt asked.
"..." Yan Jien shook his head.
"Oh dear, that's not good!" third Aunt said, "You're already this old; it's time to find someone!"
"..." Yan Jien didn't know how to respond.
"How about I introduce you to someone?" third Aunt offered enthusiastically.
"No, thank you!" Yan Jien quickly declined.
"I'm telling you," third Aunt whispered, "I have a niece who is very beautiful, 24 years old, and she doesn't have a boyfriend yet!"
"..." Yan Jien was at a loss for words, " third Aunt, I... I have things to do, I need to get busy!"
With that, he ran off as if escaping.
"Hey, don't go!" third Aunt called out urgently.
However, Yan Jien had already run far away.
"This child, what's wrong with him?" third Aunt said disappointedly.
"Don't blame Xiao Yan," Aunt Er said, "He's been introverted since he was little and doesn't like to interact with strangers."
"Sigh!" third Aunt sighed.
...
Yan Jien ran outside and let out a breath of relief.
These relatives are just too enthusiastic!
While he was thinking about this, his phone suddenly rang.
He took out his phone and saw it was Fang Yuejin calling.
"Hello?" Yan Jien answered the call.
"Mr. Yan," Fang Yuejin asked, "Are you free today?"
"Do you need something?" Yan Jien replied.
"Weren't you the one who said I should become a blogger?" Fang Yuejin said, "I wanted to talk to you about it."
"..." Yan Jien thought for a moment and said, "How about tomorrow?"
"Okay." Fang Yuejin agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Yan Jien went back inside.
After lunch, the relatives all left, and Yan Jien returned to his room to rest.
Around four in the afternoon, Fang Yuejin drove with his son Fang Yang towards the reservoir.
He planned to record a food show.
Since his son was in the car, Fang Yuejin didn't dare drive too fast.
After more than an hour, they arrived at the reservoir.
Fang Yuejin parked the car and then walked with his son towards the edge of the reservoir.
"Dad, I want to go fishing!" Fang Yang said excitedly.
"Okay," Fang Yuejin said as he patted his son's head, "you play here for a bit, and Dad will go set up the sunshade."
"Mm!" Fang Yang nodded.
Fang Yuejin smiled and walked to the side, taking out the sunshade to begin setting it up.
Just then, a sudden barking sound came from a distance.
"Woof Woof Woof..."
Fang Yuejin paused and turned to look.
He saw a white dog running quickly toward them.
"Xiao Wanzi!" Fang Yuejin exclaimed with joy.
The dog was his beloved pet, Xiao Wanzi, whom he had raised for three years!
"Xiao Wanzi!" Fang Yuejin shouted as he ran toward Xiao Wanzi.
Seeing its owner, Xiao Wanzi also quickened its pace.
In an instant, man and dog met.
"Xiao Wanzi!" Fang Yuejin squatted down and hugged Xiao Wanzi's neck, overwhelmed with excitement.
"Woo woo woo..." Xiao Wanzi nuzzled against its owner's face, whimpering softly.
"Xiao Wanzi, how did you get here?" Fang Yuejin stroked Xiao Wanzi's head, "Did you come to see me?"
"Woo woo woo..." Xiao Wanzi barked in response.
"Hahaha..." Fang Yuejin laughed heartily.
"Dad, who is this?" Fang Yang approached, curiously looking at Xiao Wanzi.
"This is your Uncle Xiao Wanzi!" Fang Yuejin replied.
"Uncle Xiao Wanzi?" Fang Yang blinked, "It looks so beautiful!"
Fang Yuejin chuckled and said to Xiao Wanzi, "Xiao Wanzi, this is my son, Yangyang."
"Woo woo woo..." Xiao Wanzi wagged its tail at Fang Yang, seemingly greeting him.
"Hello, Uncle Xiao Wanzi!" Fang Yang said in a sweet voice.
"Woo woo woo..." Xiao Wanzi licked Fang Yang's hand in response.
