Shen Mingyu hurried to East Mountain, and upon arrival, he sensed something was off.
Usually, the flowers here would still be in bloom, but now they were all withered. A thick mist lingered in the deep forest, and the further he ventured in, the darker it became. He couldn't tell if the mist was toxic.
As he approached a patch of dead flowers, he noticed signs of a struggle, likely from not long ago. Exiting the area of withered flora, he turned around and found a mother and son lying on the ground.
Neither of them had any visible injuries, but to be safe, Shen Mingyu checked their pulses.
After a moment, he let out a long sigh of relief; they were still alive.
If they had died here, it would have been hard to explain, especially since he wanted to continue enjoying free meals in the village.
Examining the signs of the struggle, it was clear they were caused by spiritual energy. However, strangely enough, there were faint traces of demonic energy mixed in.
This place was located in the Lower Realm, where spiritual energy was scarce. Anyone cultivating or any demon would typically seek out the Upper Realm for richer spiritual energy to sustain their cultivation. Due to high demand and the scarcity of spiritual energy in the Lower Realm, most chose not to stay here.
Those who came to the Lower Realm were either fleeing for their lives or idly accumulating merit to prepare for tribulations and transcend heavenly lightning.
Given the current situation, it was hard to determine which category applied; he decided to venture further in.
Navigating around the underbrush, he heard the sounds of clashing swords and blades. Shen Mingyu followed the noise.
"You people from the Immortal Sect bully a weak woman like me; how impressive you are," said a strikingly beautiful woman who was leaning against a tree with her injured arm covered, calmly addressing several sword-wielding individuals before her.
"Just you? You're a weak woman? You're merely a demon," one of the men in front of her retorted immediately.
It turned out to be a demon.
The female demon said unhappily, "So what if I'm a demon? I've never killed anyone. Why are you relentlessly pursuing me?"
Another person coldly replied, "If you haven't killed anyone, then come with us to the Qingyue Division. The Causality Mirror there can determine the truth of your words."
The path was blocked by trees, but as they walked a bit to the right, Shen Mingyu saw a group of young men, all around seventeen or eighteen years old, holding long swords. He didn't know which sect they belonged to.
They were dressed in white satin, with their hair tied back tightly, looking very proper.
The female demon let out a cold laugh and continued, "Go to the Qingyue Division? What demon doesn't know that once you enter that place, you can't come out again? If you want me dead, just do it directly. Stop pretending; it's disgusting to watch."
Liu Wenjing said, "Are you afraid, demon? If you haven't killed anyone, why are you reluctant to go?"
The female demon replied, "Hmph! Even if I haven't done anything wrong, if I go to that place, I won't survive. It’s better to fight with you; at least there might be a chance for survival."
Mu Xu once again tried to persuade her gently, "Miss, under the Causality Mirror of the Qingyue Division, the truth will be revealed without error. If we have misunderstood in the end, we will certainly apologize to you. But for now, we need your cooperation to prove your innocence."
The woman said, "If our Demon Lord were still here, it wouldn't be up to you hypocrites to judge us demons. Enough talk; prepare yourself!"
Mu Xu said, "In that case, I must take offense."
With that, Mu Xu immediately drew his sword and aimed it at her. Several sword energies sliced through the air toward her.
The female demon easily dodged to the side, unable to summon her magical artifact in time as several beams of cold light came at her, forcing her to hurriedly evade.
When there was a brief opening, she gathered energy in her hand, transforming it into a long whip. With a casual flick, she stirred up a wave of spiritual power, causing Mu Xu to retreat repeatedly until he stumbled and fell to one knee while gripping his sword.
Ji Jing jogged over and helped Mu Xu up. "Are you okay? If you can't handle it, don't push yourself. Just focus on watching me."
With that, he turned to the female demon and charged at her with his sword raised aggressively.
With a loud "bang," Ji Jing was struck by a whip and slammed against a tree, falling hard to the ground.
Seeing this, the others rushed in as well, but several long whips swept through—knocking them all down.
Ji Jing said, "You little demon, you still have some skill. It seems I need to show you my strength."
After saying this, he angrily got back up, picked up the sword that had fallen nearby, and charged forward again. With a loud "smack," he fell down once more.
The female demon: "..."
Mu Xu: "..."
Ji Jing: "..."
Everyone: "..."
Without thinking much, he got back up and charged again. Another long whip struck him down; he got up and fell repeatedly several times.
The female demon frowned, growing impatient. "Are you done yet? I thought you all had some ability since you managed to escape without fighting along the way. I didn't expect you to be this useless; one whip and you're all down. Hmph, wasting my time. I'm not playing with you anymore; I'm leaving."
Just a few steps in, the female demon seemed to hit an invisible wall and staggered back a few paces.
Holding her head, she looked up and realized she was trapped in a Golden Formation. The barrier was adorned with flowing golden runes that appeared sacred and ancient, untouchable.
It turned out that Mu Xu had secretly set up the formation while Ji Jing delayed her.
The female demon said, "How despicable! Instead of facing me head-on, you attack from behind. You call yourselves righteous?"
Ji Jing somehow managed to get back up, wiping his nose. "I told you I would show you some color. How about this move?"
Mu Xu replied, "Alright, miss, it's time for you to take a trip!"
The female demon was still unconvinced and wanted to say more, "I haven't killed anyone; you've got the wrong person..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Mu Xu quietly chanted a spell and trapped her in a golden-patterned pouch.
"Ji Jing, are you alright?"
Looking at the disheveled Ji Jing behind him, it seemed he was covered in injuries. However, it was strange that his handsome face showed no signs of harm. Could it be that the female demon had held back?
Ji Jing laughed dismissively, "What could happen to me? I'm not dead! We finally caught her; we can go back now. Aren't you happy?"
Mu Xu softly replied, "Yes, happy."
Ji Jing said, "Then let's set off now and get back early."
After just a few steps, Mu Xu wobbled as if he couldn't stand straight and began to fall forward. This time, Ji Jing caught him.
"Let's rest for a few days first. Once the injuries are healed, we can leave!"
Ji Jing didn't understand, "I already said I'm fine, no need to wait."
Mu Xu's subordinate pressed down heavily, and Ji Jing immediately exclaimed, "Ah! Mu Xu, what are you doing? That hurts!"
Mu Xu replied, "Aren't you fine?"
Ji Jing said, "I was fine, but now I have an issue. I need to rest here for a few days."
Mu Xu responded, "Alright."
The people behind them saw that their senior brother Ji Jing had finally relented, and they all breathed a sigh of relief. They were also injured and could finally take a break.
"Who goes there? Come out."
Shen Mingyu slowly walked out from behind a tree, dressed in simple peasant clothes—plain and unremarkable—though his face was actually more handsome than Ji Jing's.
Shen Mingyu was speechless; he had originally planned to sneak away but ended up crawling over and accidentally knocking something down with a branch. He didn't expect that such a small noise would be noticed.
What terrible luck he had.
