"Could it be a kindred spirit?" Yan Jien exclaimed in surprise.
The video was not very clear; the image was somewhat blurry, and Yan Jien could not make out the man's features. However, judging by his build, he appeared to be a young adult male.
"The Youjiang City police reported: Last night, a man suddenly went berserk on the roadside, lunging at a drunken man lying on the ground and biting him. The man then fled the scene, and the police are currently in hot pursuit."
"It is suspected that the man had ingested a new type of drug known as 'bath salts,' which caused hallucinations, leading him to mistake the drunken man for food."
"The police remind citizens that recent times have been unstable and advise against going out late at night."
"Additionally, the new drug 'bath salts' has entered our city, and we urge all citizens to take precautions."
"Currently, the case is under further investigation."
Upon reading this news, Yan Jien furrowed his brow.
"After using drugs, one loses rationality and may attack others; this is somewhat similar to Mutant Humans. However, Mutant Humans possess intelligence, while drug users do not."
"If it really were a Mutant Human, it shouldn't be so easily captured."
Yan Jien pondered for a moment before searching for more related information.
Soon, he found another news article.
"Breaking news: The man arrested last night has DNA that does not match that of humans; the specific reason is still under investigation."
"Did I really guess right?" Yan Jien was taken aback.
"If that man truly is a Mutant Human, the police would definitely not disclose this information."
"This means that this Mutant Human is quite weak and poses no threat to ordinary people."
Yan Jien let out a sigh of relief.
"It seems that from now on, I must be more cautious with Bread and Milk Tea; we cannot attack ordinary humans without reason, or we might end up being wanted."
Yan Jien silently reminded himself.
After finishing breakfast, Yan Weila went to work while Dou Dou stayed at home.
Yan Jien spent the entire day indoors, meditating, practicing drawing his uncontrollable portrait, or watching movies.
In the evening, after taking a shower, Yan Jien lay in bed looking at his phone.
"Ding dong~" The phone rang once.
Yan Jien picked up his phone and saw a WeChat message from Yan Weila.
"I'm working late tonight, I'll be back later."
"Okay, I understand," Yan Jien replied.
"Make sure to rest early," Yan Weila said.
"Yeah, you too," Yan Jien responded.
After putting down his phone, Yan Jien closed his eyes and went to sleep.
The next day, he woke up, and his injuries had healed; his senses and self-healing abilities were restored.
"Have I really healed?" Yan Jien exclaimed in surprise.
"It seems that yesterday's battle was a kind of training for me."
Yan Jien immediately began to transform.
"Whoosh!"
In just one second, he completed the transformation.
"The speed is much faster than before; it seems that battles can indeed enhance transformation speed," Yan Jien said with delight.
After finishing his transformation, Yan Jien practiced for a while longer before leaving the room.
After freshening up, he went to the kitchen to cook.
Just as he finished making the meal, Yan Weila arrived.
"Why are you up so early today?" Yan Jien asked in surprise.
"I'm on vacation today," Yan Weila explained.
"Oh," Yan Jien nodded.
The two sat at the dining table to eat.
"Yan Jien, thank you," Yan Weila suddenly said.
"Thank me for what?" Yan Jien asked in confusion.
"Thank you for saving me and Dou Dou," Yan Weila replied.
"Hehe, it's what I should do," Yan Jien smiled.
"You saved Dou Dou; I owe you a big favor," Yan Weila said seriously.
"Don't say that, I volunteered too," Yan Jien waved his hand.
"No, I owe you," Yan Weila insisted.
"Then... how are you going to repay me?" Yan Jien asked with a smile.
"What do you want me to do to repay you?" Yan Weila countered.
"Uh..." Yan Jien was suddenly at a loss for words.
In fact, he saved Dou Dou purely out of instinct and hadn't thought about wanting anything in return.
"I was joking, don't take it seriously," Yan Jien said awkwardly.
"I'm not joking," Yan Weila said, looking into Yan Jien's eyes.
"Then... it's up to you," Yan Jien replied helplessly.
"I will repay you," Yan Weila said earnestly.
"..." Yan Jien was speechless.
After finishing their meal, the two sat on the sofa watching TV.
As they watched, Yan Jien suddenly felt Yan Weila leaning closer.
He turned his head and saw Yan Weila gazing at him affectionately.
"Um..." Yan Jien was taken aback for a moment.
"Yan Jien, I want to..." Yan Weila said, blushing.
"Wants what?" Yan Jien asked.
"I want to..." Yan Weila hesitated.
"Hmm?" Yan Jien frowned.
"I want to be with you..." Yan Weila whispered.
"Be with me for what?" Yan Jien asked in confusion.
"I want to be with you," Yan Weila gathered her courage and said.
"..." Yan Jien was stunned.
"Is that okay?" Yan Weila asked hopefully.
"Sure," Yan Jien said without hesitation.
"Really?" Yan Weila said in surprise.
"Really," Yan Jien affirmed.
"Thank you," Yan Weila said, touched.
"You're welcome," Yan Jien smiled.
"Then let's get started," Yan Weila said eagerly.
"Okay," Yan Jien nodded.
Then, the two embraced and kissed passionately.
After a while, they lay breathlessly on the bed.
"Yan Jien, I'm going to take Dou Dou back to my hometown next week," Yan Weila suddenly said.
"Back to your hometown?" Yan Jien asked in surprise.
"Yes, Dou Dou misses her grandmother," Yan Weila explained.
"Oh," Yan Jien nodded.
"When you have time, please take us to the station," Yan Weila said.
"Sure," Yan Jien agreed with a nod.
"Thank you," Yan Weila expressed her gratitude.
"You're welcome," Yan Jien smiled.
After that, the two fell silent.
Yan Jien sensed that Yan Weila's attitude seemed to have changed.
Previously, Yan Weila had been very enthusiastic towards him, even willing to take the initiative.
But now, she was keeping a certain distance from him.
"Is it because of Dou Dou's kidnapping?" Yan Jien thought to himself.
"It could also be that incident with Professor Fang that scared her," he speculated.
"Regardless, I respect her choice," Yan Jien thought.
Although he felt a bit regretful, he did not try to hold her back.
