The car screeched to a stop on the road, the sudden brake causing me to bounce out of my seat, only to be yanked back by the seatbelt.
Before I could steady myself, Xiao Minxing's voice came ominously.
"I don't care what you do, but I said before, if you want a divorce, no way. Unless you die, or I die."
This voice did not come from a person, but from the Demon; every word dripped with a chilling aura that would haunt my dreams at midnight.
Right, I almost forgot that he kept me around not as a wife but as a slave to torment. So how could he allow a slave to request a divorce?
By the time I got home, it was already past seven in the evening. As he walked upstairs, he said, "Make dinner."
I had no rights; I put down my bag and didn’t even have time to wash my face before diving into the kitchen.
After finishing, he had just come out of the shower and sat at the table like a lord, ready to eat.
He didn’t speak, so of course I didn’t dare to sit down and took steps upstairs.
Once in the bathroom, I finally released my grievances and helplessness. The shower was running high, and I cried silently under the water until my insides felt torn apart, yet it did nothing to change my current situation.
This was my routine; every day passed like this. I just didn’t know how much longer it would continue. Would it really last until the day I died?
Originally, some of Xiao Minxing's recent behaviors had been quite puzzling. Sometimes I even thought that maybe there was a moment when I truly touched him and he wanted to treat me gently. But today’s events once again proved that I was overthinking it.
He will not change, still hating me to the bone; only death can resolve this predicament.
Coming out of the bathroom, feeling both hungry and tired, my eyes were squinted from crying. Looking at the time, I guessed he must have finished eating by now. Perhaps I should go cook a bowl of hot noodles to warm my heart.
Sure enough, there was no sign of him downstairs. The light by the dining table was still on, and there were two plates of food covered with empty plates.
It turned out to be my favorite dishes, but they had already gone cold, greasy and unappetizing. I had no appetite at all.
I took the dishes to the kitchen, first boiled the noodles, then added the dishes to heat them together, resulting in a bowl of mixed soup noodles. It didn’t look very appealing, but it smelled really good.
Moreover, eating the noodles felt great; slurping them made beads of sweat form on my nose, and my mood quickly improved.
“Chicken Soup” is right; women need to find their own joy. No matter how poor the environment is, one must find a way to put a smile on their face.
Thinking of this, I broke into a big smile at the empty noodle bowl. Although it wasn't perfect, I had done my best.
Once everything was tidied up, I didn’t even feel tired anymore; instead, I inexplicably felt an urge to take a walk in the yard.
Stepping out of the door, I looked up at the window of Xiao Minxing on the second floor. The light inside was on; this tyrant should be in there.
At this moment, with no one to disturb me, a post-dinner stroll would surely lift my spirits.
This is a Seaside Villa. The layout isn’t very large, but the view is excellent. At night, the wind carries a hint of briny scent, wafting through the air.
The dim yellow light blurred the entire courtyard, creating an ethereal sense of a fairyland.
I walked slowly along the path between the Flower Bed, sometimes stopping to lean in closer to smell a particularly fragrant flower.
I tried to clear my mind and immerse myself in the beautiful, tranquil night.
By the time I returned indoors, it was already late at night. My arms and clothes were damp, clinging to my body. Eager to get back to my room for a shower, I turned the corner of the stairs and caught sight of Xiao Minxing's back.
He walked quickly, his clothes also damp against his muscular frame, and even his shoes were wet. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared around the corner of the house.
I turned back to look and saw two rows of footprints on the ground, one large and one small, intertwined and leading to where I stood.
