Xiao Minxing probably really didn't want to talk to me, so he turned his head away and stared at the wall, not knowing what he was thinking.
I didn't know what I could do either, so I just looked up at the IV drip above me in a daze.
When Zhuo Feng arrived, it was already evening.
He sincerely thanked Xiao Minxing and then told us that Mina had been found; she was now returning to Haicheng from another place.
Knowing she was safe eased my mind a bit, but seeing the person lying on the bed made me feel uncomfortable. According to his usual calm demeanor, if it weren't for me, this incident probably wouldn't have happened at all.
Xiao Minxing didn't say much, just gave a simple "mm."
Seeing Zhuo Feng standing awkwardly, I called him out to ask about Mina's situation in detail. As soon as we stepped out of the hospital room, we saw Su Qian standing there too.
He was wearing a military green long coat, leaning against the wall of the Hospital, playing with his phone.
When he saw us come out, he just looked up and smiled slightly at me, a faint dimple appearing on his cheek, then lowered his head again.
Zhuo Feng remained composed and thanked me again. His attitude and words didn't seem like those of Mina's boss; they felt more like those of her husband.
He said, “Xiao Zong called to confirm whether Mina really came to Yunnan. I didn’t expect you all to arrive first. It took some effort to find the police station when I got here, so I ended up being late and caused Xiao Zong to get hurt.”
I actually felt quite frustrated inside; I really didn't want to see Xiao Minxing lying in bed. I would rather it had been me who got hurt. But what was the point of saying such things to Zhuo Feng, so I simply replied, “It doesn’t matter who came first; as long as Mina is okay.”
He nodded and sighed lightly: “I’ve heard Mina mention you before but never understood how you two became friends. Now I see.”
Yes, given Mina's status as an urban white-collar worker, the people around her must be influential figures like him. And here I am, nothing special; even in the past, I was just an ordinary employee at a hotel. From any perspective, we were not in the same circle. Not to mention others; I often found it hard to believe myself.
Because Xiao Minxing was injured, Zhuo Feng stayed here for two more days but couldn’t really help much, so he returned to Haicheng early.
I initially thought Su Qian would leave with him, but that very night after he left, I saw him again at the Hospital.
By then it was already quite late. Xiao Minxing was sound asleep. Due to his medication, his routine seemed to have improved significantly; by around nine o'clock in the evening, he would fall asleep.
I stepped out of the ward and looked up to see Su Qian leaning near the Nurse station, turned sideways and seemingly doing something.
At that time, I thought I had misread the situation, so I didn't think much of it. However, when I returned from the restroom, I saw him already standing at the entrance of Xiao Minxing's hospital room.
He still wore a warm smile on his face, glanced inside, and softly asked, "How about we sit over there for a bit?"
I wasn't feeling sleepy and was curious why he hadn't left, so I followed him to the lobby and then asked, "I thought you left with Zhuo Feng."
Su Qian smiled, his long eyelashes fluttering beautifully.
"I would be the same there; anyway, there's nothing much to do back in Haicheng, so I decided to stay a few more days and take a look around," he said cheerfully. I didn't think too deeply about it, but due to this incident, my good impression of this place had diminished, so I reminded him to be careful when going out.
He deliberately gave a playful salute and said, "Understood, please rest assured, sir."
After several days of feeling down, his words made me laugh. Then we both sat on a bench in the lobby chatting about the places he wanted to visit.
Su Qian was the kind of person who was very attentive and easy to approach. As he described the attractions he wanted to see, I initially felt guarded. However, as I listened more, I became particularly interested in visiting them too. But since I couldn't get away, I asked him more questions.
He patiently answered each one and spoke in a humorous way. Even the on-duty nurse nearby occasionally glanced our way, her admiration evident in her eyes.
When Xiao Minxing came out, I didn't feel anything at first; I was just laughing with Su Qian. Suddenly, I sensed something strange in the atmosphere. When I turned to look behind me, I saw him being supported by the nurse, his face wrapped in bandages.
His gaze didn't meet mine at all as he turned and went back into the room.
I turned back to look at Su Qian; he had already stood up and smiled slightly, saying, "You go ahead and get busy; I'll come see you another day."
When I rushed back to the room, Xiao Minxing had actually locked the door from the inside. I knocked a few times, startling other patients in nearby rooms, but he still wouldn't open up. I had no choice but to give up.
I sat outside all night and only went in when the nurse came by for her rounds in the morning.
Xiao Minxing didn't even glance at me; he simply asked the nurse about his condition and stated that he wanted to be discharged today.
I immediately got anxious upon hearing this. I hurriedly sent the nurse away and then asked him, "The doctor said you need to stay for at least another week; why are you so eager to leave?"
He didn't say a word to me and just closed his eyes.
I felt utterly helpless against him. But soon after, the doctor on duty arrived. Due to Xiao Minxing's firm attitude, the doctor could only prescribe some medication and proceed with the discharge paperwork.
What shocked me even more was that while we were still completing our paperwork, Xiao Minxing's assistant arrived. He took everything from my hands and directly escorted his boss to the airport.
I was dumbfounded, watching the two of them walk towards the ticket gate with the plane tickets that had already been booked, while I could only stand outside with my simple luggage.
Xiao Minxing left me here, and he returned to Haicheng alone.
In the crowd, I could no longer see their shadows, and it suddenly dawned on me this reality.
I felt completely lost and helpless, not knowing what to do next, as if I had been dropped into a desert with not even a drop of water around me, yet I still had to find a way out.
Fortunately, I had some money on me, and all my documents were intact. I hurried to the ticket counter to buy a return ticket, but the earliest flight was not until the afternoon.
Being alone in an unfamiliar place made me feel utterly disoriented; everything seemed terrifying. The scam involving Mina and everything we encountered in the alley kept drilling into my mind.
These anxieties were clearly overshadowed by the indifference Xiao Minxing showed me.
I still couldn't understand what was wrong with him. Even if he hated Su Qian, should I really give a cold shoulder just because they came to visit at the hospital?
We only exchanged a few words; did that mean I didn't even have that little freedom?
He was too controlling, too domineering. His own life was a mess, yet he wanted to keep me firmly in his grasp. If I didn't obey, he would use various means to torment me.
Leaving me alone here now was also a form of torment, wasn't it?
