The floor-to-ceiling window in the Living Room was open, and as soon as I reached the Entrance, a cold breeze rushed over me, making me involuntarily shiver.
A bit of light from outside streamed in through the open window, casting a cool glow on the furniture inside, bringing with it a sense of haziness and chill.
I fixed my gaze for a long time before I noticed someone sitting in the corner of the Sofa.
He had completely blended into the night, leaving only a dark silhouette, quietly existing like the furniture that had already been arranged in the room.
The hostility that once surrounded him had vanished; there was no trace of dominance, nor any of the familiar anger and irritation I used to know.
I stood still, silently watching him for a long time.
Due to the lighting, I couldn't tell if he was looking at me too. The lack of his presence made me feel a bit anxious and uneasy inside.
"Why are you up?" he asked, his voice soft like a whisper, as if afraid to disturb the tranquility of the room.
I slowly walked over and stood beside him. Only then did I notice his hair was slightly tousled, his head tilted slightly as he unconsciously stared at a corner of the room. His hands were curled up on his lap, and his whole body was bent forward.
One of his hands lifted gently to hold my fingertips. After a long pause, he asked, "Are you very afraid of me?"
How should I respond to that?
I had truly been terrified of him before, but in this night, seeing him like this suddenly made him seem like a fragile, pitiful child. The fear I once felt for him simply couldn't arise; instead, I found myself wanting to hold him close and comfort him from the bottom of my heart.
"I just don't know how to get along with you better."
I sat down beside him, allowing him to hold my hand as I spoke softly.
Xiao Minxing had not moved for a long time, and only the warmth of his palm made me feel that he was present.
His hands were large, with long fingers, and there were some slightly hard calluses between his fingers and on his palms, indicating that he often used a mouse and pen.
Feeling this roughness, I suddenly realized that this was the most authentic version of him—a diligent worker who felt even more lonely in the deep night when no one was around.
He leaned back against the Sofa, and with his other hand, he gathered both of my hands into his palm, then softly said, “Your fingertips are cold. Are you cold?”
I shook my head at him, unconsciously leaning my body closer to him.
He felt a bit cool too, but it was better than me; perhaps he was used to such temperatures. Every time the wind blew through the window, I couldn’t help but shiver.
Xiao Minxing opened his arms and easily pulled me into his embrace from behind.
Warmth spread in my chest, gradually reaching my limbs.
Our faces were very close; the warm air from his breath mixed with a hint of coolness gently brushed against my cheek. However, the heat from our bodies slowly rose, making the grip on my hands stronger.
The atmosphere had subtly changed at some point, and the man who had been melted by the cold night had awakened.
He rested his head against my neck, his lips touching my skin. The occasional contact felt like an electric current flowing through me, dispelling the last remnants of coldness.
Xiao Minxing stood up but did not let go of me; instead, he wrapped around and walked into the room.
I thought something else would happen between us, but it didn’t. After returning to the room, Xiao Minxing simply helped me onto the bed, covered me with the blanket, and gently kissed my forehead before turning to go take a shower.
I didn’t know what he was doing inside; such a harmonious night made me fall asleep.
When I woke up in the morning, Xiao Minxing was not in bed with me. Only the depressed pillow and the still warm blanket indicated that a man had indeed slept here last night.
Without hesitating too much, I quickly got up, washed up, and went downstairs.
Last night was last night, today is today.
I didn't forget my identity as a cook; Xiao Minxing had to go to work today. Before work, he needed to have breakfast. Although I no longer had to drive him, I still had to cook.
However, before I even reached the kitchen entrance, I heard his voice coming from the living room: "I'm not cooking. Let's go out to eat."
I barely thought about it and asked, "Aren't you going to work?"
He didn't even look at me and casually replied, "What does work have to do with going out to eat?"
It seemed like it didn't matter, but since he had to go to work and I didn't want to go to the studio today, going out to eat with him and then rushing back felt like too much trouble.
Thinking this way, I said, "Well, I'm not going. You..."
"You don't have a say in this. Change your clothes and let's go." Before I could finish my sentence, he interrupted me. The gentle man from last night had vanished with the night; now standing in front of me was the same strong, domineering tyrant who wouldn't listen.
As I went into the dressing room to change clothes, Xiao Minxing was already dressed neatly, tying his tie in front of the mirror.
Seeing me seemed to spark his interest suddenly as he said softly, "Come here."
I glanced at him and realized there was no room for negotiation. I could only slowly walk over and stand about a meter in front of him, one foot still behind me, ready to bolt at any sign of trouble.
He shot me a sharp glance, straightened up, relaxed his hand, and said, "Help me tie my tie."
I was completely taken aback. Wasn't he just fine a moment ago? Besides, he had never let me do such things before; in his words, I wasn't qualified to touch him. What changed? Now he wanted me to tie his tie? God knows I've never done that before and hadn't even learned how because I knew it would be useless.
But Xiao Minxing was still waiting. If I ran away now, I'd probably not even make it out of this room before he'd push me back in. At that point, I'd likely face a punishment worse than tying a tie.
In order to live a little longer, I took two small steps forward and was already in front of him.
Xiao Minxing is very tall, over 1.8 meters, while I am barely around 1.65 meters. If I were standing among a group of girls, I wouldn't be considered short, but standing straight in front of him at this moment made me deeply aware of the importance of height.
The difference in our heights was so significant that I had to stretch my hand out quite far just to reach his neck. Yet, I felt helpless about this seemingly simple tie, so I didn't even dare to look into his eyes.
"Can't do it?" he asked.
As he spoke, warm breath brushed against my face, causing a ticklish sensation.
I kept my head down, not daring to look at his face, and softly replied with a low "mm," wishing he would act as he usually did—assertively snatching the item from my hands and telling me to leave.
But instead, he seemed to be acting strangely, actually holding my hand, his gaze directed downward—half looking at my face and half at his tie. He moved slowly, teaching me bit by bit how to wrap the tie around.
We stood very close together, almost body to body. I could feel the heat radiating from him and that unique scent of a man mixed with the fragrance of his shower gel enveloping my senses completely.
My hands were clumsy; it was entirely thanks to him guiding me that I managed to tie the tie. This single action made my entire body feel flushed, as if I had just gone through a great battle.
Xiao Minxing looked at himself in the mirror, and I took the opportunity to sneak a glance as well.
To be honest, he wasn't as handsome as when he styled himself, but he didn't ruin it either. Instead, he said, "It's okay to learn; I've heard this is also part of the fun between couples."
