His speed was quick. Although there was still some distance between us, he managed to catch me before I hit the ground. Despite looking quite slender, his arms were surprisingly strong, and he quickly lifted me up and placed me in the car.
“Let’s go to the hospital first,” he said while driving.
I had already recovered a bit and didn’t want to leave him with a sickly impression like Lin Daiyu, so I said, “No need to go. I just stood for too long, that’s all. A bit of water will fix it.”
Su Qian casually pulled out a bottle of purified water from the car and handed it to me, saying, “Alright, but if you feel uncomfortable, you must tell me.”
I nodded at him and drank half the bottle of water; it indeed made me feel much better.
He didn’t ask where I wanted to go, just drove the car forward. However, my mind was filled with a bunch of thoughts. Eventually, I found the main issue among them. I opened my bag, took out the box, and asked him, “Is this what you gave me?”
Su Qian glanced at the box, frowned slightly, and after a moment of silence said, “I don’t remember. What’s wrong?”
Hearing this made me angry: “What’s wrong with you? How can you forget giving away something so valuable? Do you have a lot of money at home? Can you just give anything away without a care?”
Su Qian remained calm, not increasing or decreasing his speed. He waited until I finished speaking before asking, “What’s wrong? Did it cause you trouble?”
I shot him a glare and turned my head towards the car window.
But then I thought about it; why should it matter to him? If he had money and wanted to give gifts, why should I accept? And if I accepted it but didn’t keep it properly and let Xiao Minxing see it, ultimately it was my own fault.
I handed the box back to him and said, “You should take this back; I don’t need it.”
Su Qian unexpectedly smiled lightly, "I can't even remember if I really gave it to you. You pushed it onto me, so if this thing wasn't a gift from me, doesn't that mean you're giving me a gift?"
I replied calmly, "You can't remember, but I do. It was that time in the parking lot of Mina's company, right? You said it was very cheap, and I accepted it. But today Mina said it's very expensive, costing a hundred thousand yuan. I can't accept something so valuable."
Su Qian nodded with a smile and said, "That makes some sense. It's hard to part with something so expensive when giving it away. So have you heard of high-quality replicas? A-grade goods."
"Huh? Are you saying this is A-grade?" I could hardly believe his words.
Su Qian noncommittally replied, "Let's put it this way: even if it's real, it's not that expensive—just a few tens of thousands of yuan. If it's fake, then it's only worth the price of two cups of coffee. Is it worth pushing back and forth like this?"
"Well, that's receiving without giving anything in return. I haven't done anything for you; why should I take your coffee money?" In truth, I hoped what he said was true, even though it didn't matter much now.
However, Su Qian always maintained a carefree demeanor. Hearing my response, he instead smiled and asked, "So what do you want to do for me?"
I really couldn't think of anything. We weren't from the same circle at all; I didn't know what he needed. Besides, I was already looking for his help. If I had the ability to help him, why not be self-sufficient?
Seeing that I was silent, Su Qian didn't press further and soon drove the car to a secluded beach.
This area was still undeveloped, so there weren't many people around. Apart from the trees lining the road and the occasional passing vehicles, there were hardly any pedestrians like Su Qian and me walking slowly.
We got off the road and walked along a long dirt path before finally reaching the beach.
Because it hadn't been developed, the seaside didn't look clean. Some foam from the waves and trash from the sea were washed ashore, only to be pulled back in by new waves.
Su Qian placed his hand on his forehead and looked out, saying, "Actually, it would be nice to take a boat to the island in the middle right now."
I wasn't in the mood; seeing the dirty sea surface made my feelings even more complicated.
He seemed to read my mind and said, "Right now, both the air and water are polluted, and the ocean is no different. So we can't expect others to be clean; we can only try our best to keep our hearts clean."
I didn't expect him to have such a perspective, but upon reflection, it didn't seem wrong.
Every day, so many people pass by us, each with their own quirks. What right do we have to demand anything from others? We can only try to make ourselves happy.
He wasn't in a hurry either; after looking ahead for a while, he said, "Let's walk over there; there should be a small dock. There might still be some yachts around."
I followed his footsteps, slowly moving forward on the beach.
The beach looked soft, leaving footprints with every step, but after walking for a while, it became particularly tiring. Plus, I had been feeling a bit drained since morning, so I wanted to give up before reaching halfway.
However, seeing Su Qian so enthusiastic, I could only force myself to walk a bit further with him.
In the end, I couldn't hold on any longer and just sat down on the sand.
He sat down beside me, tilted his head to look at me, and softly asked, "Can't walk anymore?"
I didn't want to hide it; I nodded and lazily said without even lifting my eyelids, "How about we go back?"
He looked back and then forward before saying, "Now we are a bit closer to the dock. If we go back, it will take longer. You should rest for a bit. If it really doesn't work out, we can go back. If you can hold on, let's head to the dock first. There should be a car over there that can take us back."
After sitting for almost half an hour, he helped me start walking again.
In fact, I had already lost interest in playing; I was just thinking about the car that could take us back.
Su Qian didn't push me. As soon as we arrived at the dock, he found a car, helped me get in, and said, "You don't look too well; you should go see a doctor."
I really didn't want to go to the hospital with him, but after getting back into his car, I leaned against the seat and fell asleep before we even reached downtown. When I woke up, we were already at the hospital entrance.
And coincidentally, it was the hospital where Lu Yi Heng worked.
I started to panic and urged Su Qian, "I'm really fine; just take me home. I just feel a bit tired and want to sleep a little longer."
He had always been an easygoing person. After trying to persuade me a few times and seeing that I wasn't listening, he decided not to insist any further and actually drove me back home.
Xiao Minxing hadn't returned yet; I didn't know if he went back to the office to work overtime or was doing something else.
I had already told Lu Yi Heng about what happened today, and since he hadn't contacted me yet, it seemed like there was nothing urgent.
Instead, I felt drained from all the commotion today, my whole body felt weak, and all I wanted was to sleep.
