Su Qian quickly said to the two women, "You can step outside for a moment."
Guan Mingyue glanced at him and walked out first. As she passed by me, she unexpectedly smiled at Xiao Minxing.
Xiao Minxing didn't smile back but nodded in response.
Su Mother followed her out but didn't say a word to us, a stark contrast to how she acted when she saw us last night.
Xiao Minxing walked over and placed the fruit basket on the table, surprisingly speaking up before I could: "How are you? Are you okay?"
Su Qian forced a smile and replied, "I'm fine, just some superficial injuries. Thank you, Xiao Zong, for taking the time to come."
Xiao Minxing also smiled, but his smile didn't reach his eyes. The two of them spoke as if they were acting, exchanging words without any emotion, their conversation polite and formal, lacking any genuine concern or gratitude.
I stood at the head of the bed, in the same spot where Guan Mingyue had just been, unable to interject even a single word, only watching their lips move.
However, seeing Su Qian up close made it seem like his injuries weren't serious; otherwise, he wouldn't have the energy to banter with Xiao Minxing.
It was just that Xiao Minxing, having driven me here early in the morning and climbed those stairs for so long, seemed either frustrated or something else. Knowing that Su Qian was the patient yet still pressing him hard made me uneasy.
After a few minutes of watching, I couldn't hold back anymore and moved to pull him away.
But as soon as I reached out my hand, he caught it with one hand, his gaze soft enough to seem like it could squeeze out tears as he stared at me intently.
The words I intended to urge him to leave got stuck in my throat. Turning back to look at Su Qian, his expression was also strange.
I hadn't spoken a word to him since entering, but now our eyes met. Seeing his expression made my heart soften immediately. I asked him, "Aren't you a good driver? How did this happen?"
He smiled helplessly before saying, "There are always times when one is careless. But it's nothing; you don't need to worry."
I actually wanted to ask him about the call he made to me earlier, but Xiao Minxing was blocking the space between us. Not only did he not leave, but he also held my hand tightly. I felt that if I showed too much concern for Su Qian, he might explode again. So in the end, I held back my questions.
Like them, after exchanging a few pleasantries, I left the ward.
However, when I looked at Xiao Minxing again, I couldn't help but feel a bit angry and asked him in a suppressed voice, "What are you doing?"
He didn't immediately explode at me; instead, he squinted his eyes and stared at me for a few seconds before asking, "What can I do? Just protecting your safety."
I almost immediately started looking around, but all I saw were a few medical staff quickly passing through the ward. In the corridor and the lobby outside, there wasn't even a single patient in sight.
I asked him irritably, "What do I need protection for? This is a hospital; is someone going to come here and beat me up?"
Xiao Minxing was not polite either; his voice even grew a bit louder as he glared at me and said, "Did you not see Madam Su's attitude towards you? And that Guan Mingyue? I'm sure they said something about you. Qiu Yuhan, if you had any sense, you wouldn't come to see her again."
I still didn't understand what he meant and thought he might be angry because of Su Qian's help when I was sick, so I turned and walked outside.
Xiao Minxing followed me out, his mouth never stopping.
"You can't be blind to how Guan Mingyue looks at Su Qian, right? I thought about it after I got home yesterday; she only called you over at that time to push you in front of the Su family."
I turned to look at Xiao Minxing, somewhat unable to believe these words were coming from him. The main reason was that he almost never cared about other people's matters, let alone their romantic affairs. So how did he know about Guan Mingyue's feelings for Su Qian?
To be honest, I couldn't believe it myself because from what I saw, their interactions were minimal. The only thing I witnessed was Su Qian making a phone call to her and the scene in the ward just now.
Regarding Xiao Minxing's words and what I had seen with my own eyes, I still leaned more towards my own perspective. So I could only ask him doubtfully, "Are you overthinking this? She might just be kind-hearted."
Xiao Minxing sneered and asked, "Then why would she be kind-hearted? Do you have a deep friendship with her? Besides that time when I treated you at her place, have you met her privately or discussed anything?"
I really couldn't say anything about that; otherwise, Xiao Minxing might resort to violence against me again.
His gaze was intense, and he showed no mercy in his words: "I know better than you what kind of person Su Qian is. I've told you before to stay away from her, but you wouldn't listen. Right now it's just Guan Mingyue; if you get closer to them, do you believe someone will throw bricks at you on the street?"
I found his words particularly amusing and alarmist. Even if Su Qian had many women outside, what did that have to do with me? Why would they throw bricks at me?
Moreover, Mina mentioned before that he is quite skilled at handling those women, belonging to the type that can manage a thousand beauties without any issues. So why is he suddenly so jealous here at Xiao Minxing?
I couldn't help but laugh and said to him, "Are you overthinking? I can only consider him an ordinary friend, and I haven't noticed many women around him. Even if we take a step back, aren't you just as good as him? When I married you, didn't I see anyone taking pictures of me?"
Xiao Minxing gasped for breath and gritted his teeth, saying, "You’re comparing him to me."
I didn't think he was worth less than Su Qian, but seeing that he was about to get angry, I decided to backtrack: "That's not what I meant. I just wanted to say that good men always have women who like them, but those women wouldn't be completely irrational, right?"
Xiao Minxing seemed determined to argue with me on this matter and replied firmly, "If everyone were rational, there wouldn't be women who commit suicide over celebrity relationships. There are too many brainless women nowadays; even if those idols only exist in their hearts, they won't allow them to be with anyone else."
This statement successfully stopped me from continuing my argument. But what kind of person is Guan Mingyue? She's a psychologist; she is meant to treat these brainless girls. How could she possibly be like that herself?
In the end, it still comes down to Xiao Minxing not being able to let go.
After we left the hospital, he was still worried and insisted on driving me home before going to work.
Looking at the bustling traffic outside the hospital and recalling our journey here, I refused and firmly stated that I wanted to be alone for a while to sort out my thoughts and asked him not to disturb me.
He was somewhat angry but ultimately drove off alone.
I only turned back toward the hospital after watching his car disappear into the traffic.
