By the time he finished his shower and came out, I was almost dozing off.
Feeling a warm body close to me, I snuggled up next to him and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
This sleep was perhaps the most peaceful I had experienced in many years. Although my situation hadn't changed much from the past, I felt at ease.
When dawn broke, we woke up around the same time, and neither of us hurried to get up; instead, we held each other and lay in bed.
I rested my head on one of his arms while his other hand rested on my waist. To make myself more comfortable, I draped one of my legs over his.
Xiao Minxing maintained this position, slightly turning to look outside as the light gradually seeped through the curtains.
He didn't say anything, and I didn't want to either. This tranquil warmth was rare for us, so I wanted to prolong it as much as possible. I even thought that if he didn’t sell this place and if we improved our relationship from now on, maybe we could wake up together every morning in this kind of sunlight-filled dawn.
I didn't know how long had passed when Xiao Minxing finally sighed and said, "Let's get up; if we don't move soon, we'll be kicked out."
Actually, it wouldn't take long because of our efforts yesterday. When the moving company came again, they could directly load the boxes onto the truck. The items were divided into two parts: the small things we needed would be sent to my place, while the larger items that we didn’t need right now would be taken to a small warehouse at Xiao Minxing's company.
I looked at him with a bit of amusement and asked, "Aren't you using public resources for personal gain?"
He nodded and said, "Yeah, do you have a problem with that?"
Since I readily admitted it, I dared not voice any objections. Pretending not to hear him, I quickly walked away, only to hear him chuckle behind me.
In half a day's time, everything was moved out. Then Xiao Minxing called the current homeowner to hand over the keys. Jin Ke also came to pick me up to go home together.
The items that had been moved in were still piled up in the living room. In the villa, they hadn’t seemed like too much, but here it was just one apartment, so seeing it all piled up made my head ache; I had no idea where to put everything.
After thinking it over, I realized I could only wait for Xiao Minxing to come back before discussing it. However, he didn’t return all day. When I couldn’t hold back any longer and called him, he had already gone back to the office.
“How can you do this? The stuff is still piled in the living room all messy! How can you just go to work?” I exclaimed into the phone.
Xiao Minxing paused for a moment before saying, "You don't need to worry about it. I'll organize it when I go back."
Though he said not to worry, he couldn't help but glance at the items. So, he stopped drawing, had a quick lunch with Jin Ke, and cleared out one of the rooms to serve as Xiao Minxing's bedroom, stuffing all his belongings inside.
Some items that weren't needed immediately were piled into the storage room, and even the study had to make space for him since a large portion of Xiao Minxing's things were books.
While organizing, Jin Ke asked me, "Sister An, will Xiao Zong be living here with us from now on?"
I replied with a "mm," pulling out a new set of sheets from the cabinet and spreading them on his bed.
Jin Ke quickly dropped what he was doing and came over to help, saying, "Wasn't he living in a villa before? Why is he moving in with us? Did you two get back together?"
"That's not the case. It's just that he's having some trouble with his bonus right now and needs to sell his house, so he's temporarily staying here."
I didn't want to tell Jin Ke about the uncertain changes between Xiao Minxing and me. After all, this was a matter between two people, and there are many variables in the future. It was better for fewer people to know.
Thinking of this led me to think about Mina.
I wasn't sure if she was too busy lately or if there was another reason, but ever since Jin Ke came to my house, she had been visiting less and less. Sometimes she would come by on weekends but would leave after just two hours, unlike before when she would lie on the sofa watching TV for an entire day.
I hesitated about whether I should call her to inform her about Xiao Minxing moving in with me.
I could almost imagine her expression upon hearing the news. But we were best friends; such a big matter should be mentioned in advance. If anything happened later, it wouldn't be awkward to ask for her help.
With that thought in mind, I finished making the bed and called her.
Mina picked up quickly but spoke in a very low voice, saying she was in a meeting and would call me back later before hanging up.
I didn't think much of it and returned to my tasks.
Xiao Minxing came back from outside in the evening and saw that I had moved his things into another room. His expression was somewhat strange as he said quietly to Jin Ke, "If I had known it would be like this, I might as well have lived on my own."
I was busy looking up at him, and for a moment, I couldn't think of a response. He didn't say much either; he just glanced around the room briefly before heading to the study.
The study was originally quite spacious, but because I had placed an oversized desk in there for my painting, along with some bookshelves, and now there were quite a few of Xiao Minxing's things piled up inside, it felt much smaller.
When his books were moved in, he packed them himself, so I didn't rush to organize them; they were all just stacked on the floor of the study in boxes.
Xiao Minxing walked over to take a look and said, "The study needs to remain quiet, so I have to separate from you. This way, we won't disturb each other."
"Ah, you come to my house and want to divide my territory. Isn't that a bit excessive?"
In the past, I would never have dared to say such a thing, but at this moment, when I felt that Xiao Minxing had begun to change, my courage grew as well. I spoke without thinking.
He indeed didn't get angry like before; although he shot me a glare, he explained, "It's for your own good. When you're painting, you probably don't want to hear me typing away on the keyboard, right?"
"That makes some sense, but this space is only so big. How do you plan to divide it?"
Xiao Minxing looked around the bookshelves and then seriously picked up a piece of paper and started sketching on it. Before long, simple lines appeared on the paper.
I could see that he was planning to split the study in two. The bookshelf would be moved from the wall to the middle, back-to-back like a wall, leaving a door on one side. The couch that was originally for my rest would still be by the window but turned slightly to lean against the bookshelf. It wasn't a big deal; usually, this amount of space was enough for me.
However, the inner room had no windows. Even though it wasn't dark yet outside, with the bookshelf blocking the light in the middle, it felt somewhat dim and had a bit of a small dark room vibe.
