At the dining table, in addition to the special breakfast for pregnant women that I usually eat, there were two other servings.
These two servings were the same: sandwich, coffee, and fried eggs.
Xiao Minxing hadn't come out yet, so I looked at the breakfast on the table and asked Jin Ke, "You've already bought the coffee, how thoughtful of you."
Her face turned red, and she softly said, "I noticed Xiao Zong went to bed quite late yesterday and has to work during the day, so I prepared a little in advance."
"Yeah, that's good. But he doesn't seem to love coffee that much," I murmured.
Xiao Minxing indeed rarely drank coffee; he usually just had plain water and occasionally a bit of alcohol. Although we had coffee at home, I had seen him drink it very few times.
Unexpectedly, Jin Ke quickly glanced into his room without stopping, picked up a coffee cup from the table, and returned to the kitchen.
When I chased after her to ask what she was doing, she had already poured both cups of coffee down the sink and was looking for suitable drinks in the fridge.
I took a quick look inside and didn't see anything that Xiao Minxing particularly liked. So I said to her, "In the future, if you have time in the morning, make some porridge; he seems to like that more."
Jin Ke looked up at me and asked urgently, "What flavor does he like? I'll go buy some ingredients after breakfast."
Just as I was about to speak, I saw Xiao Minxing coming out of his room, already dressed and holding a bag.
He quickly walked to the kitchen entrance without even glancing at Jin Ke and only said to me, "I have a meeting this morning; I'm leaving."
It was normal for Xiao Minxing not to eat breakfast at home. There were times when I woke up and he was already gone. So I just nodded. However, Jin Ke followed him out and softly said, "Xiao Zong, you should eat something; skipping breakfast can lead to low blood sugar."
Xiao Minxing turned to look at her but didn't say a word before changing his shoes and leaving.
He had always been cold towards others; I had experienced worse in the past, so I didn't take it to heart or pay much attention. Instead, Jin Ke stood there dazed in the hallway, her eyes fixed on the shoe cabinet.
When she met Xiao Minxing, he had already changed from who he used to be. Their encounters were limited; probably during their few meetings, he had been relatively gentle. So now that she was exposed to his cold side, it must have felt like quite a shock.
I went over and pulled her to the dining table, saying, "Let's eat. He still has assistants at his company; if he's really hungry, they will get him something to eat. He won't starve."
Jin Ke lowered her head and stopped talking, silently eating the breakfast on the table.
She used to make Western-style breakfasts like this, but she would always ask for my opinion the night before, because I still preferred Chinese food. It was only after eating it for many days that I would want to change the flavor when I got tired of it.
I looked up at her; she sat quietly, her short hair neatly styled, and as usual, she wore light makeup on her face, with cherry-red lips that added a unique charm.
The cooking apron had long been taken off, and she wore a white knitted top paired with fitted trousers. Even while sitting, her figure was elegantly wrapped.
However, it was a bit cold this season. I had to wear a thick coat when I got up in the morning and only dared to take it off once the sun rose. So seeing her like this made me feel a chill inside.
After breakfast for both of us, I went to the Study Room to draw while she went out to buy lunch ingredients and some essentials.
The morning passed peacefully. Before cooking lunch, Jin Ke came over to ask if Xiao Minxing was coming back for a meal.
I wasn't sure about that. Logically speaking, where I lived wasn't too far from his company. However, he was known for being moody, and since we weren't in a marital relationship, I hesitated about whether to call him.
Before I could dial, Mina's call came in first.
She sounded quite displeased on the other end: "You really are carefree. Didn't you have something to discuss with me? If I don't return your call, you just stop trying?"
I was stunned for a moment before recalling that Xiao Minxing had called her when he moved in yesterday. But after a night had passed, I had almost forgotten what my question was while she only remembered to return my call now.
"It's not that I'm carefree; it's just that I don't want to disturb you urban elites. You're either in meetings or busy with meetings; isn't it normal that you didn't return my call?"
Mina was furious on the other end, shouting at me: "Hey, you think you have a point."
"Of course! This is my logic. But I don't know why you're so angry. Did Zhuo Feng annoy you again?"
She immediately interrupted me: "Don't mention him! Has your family cooked yet? I'm coming over for lunch and won't be working this afternoon; let's spend some quality time together."
I was naturally happy about her coming over. After hanging up the phone, I asked Jin Ke to start cooking and told her that Mina was coming over. It would be best if Xiao Minxing didn't return so that the three of us women could have our own fun.
Half an hour later, Mina arrived at the Entrance, and as soon as she walked in, she sensed something was off in the house. Sniffing the air, she said: "Something's wrong; there's a man's scent here. Are you dating someone again?"
"What's nonsense? What do you mean by falling in love again? I have never been in a relationship, okay?"
She nodded and said, "That's true, you haven't been in one; you just kidnapped a man and got married."
Even though she said that, she didn't stop and directly approached Xiao Minxing's room Entrance, raising her eyebrows and asking me, "Can you open this door for me to take a look?"
I had originally planned to tell her about this, so it didn't matter that she discovered it early. I honestly said, "Xiao Minxing has moved in here; that's his room, so let's not go in for a visit."
Mina shot me a sideways glance and said, "You're quite honest. But that tyrant you finally managed to get rid of, how come you're entangled with him again now?"
I pulled her into the Bedroom and closed the door before explaining the situation with Xiao Minxing.
Mina frowned slightly and remained silent until I finished telling the whole story. Then she murmured, "He really is impressive; such a big deal managed to be kept completely under wraps outside."
I didn't quite understand what she meant, so I asked her directly.
Mina pouted and said, "Xiao Minxing is who? Although he may not be the richest in Haicheng, he is definitely a prominent figure. With his family background and looks, he attracts a lot of attention. It's strange that there hasn't been any news about such a big deal like selling a house until now; don't you find that odd?"
To be honest, I didn't find it strange. If he could keep our marriage a secret from the outside world, what was selling a house? Besides, those so-called public figures have no secrets; ultimately, it's still up to them. If someone really wanted to hide something, I wouldn't believe anyone could follow him twenty-four hours a day.
Unexpectedly, when I shared these thoughts with Mina, she immediately looked at me with wide eyes and an expression as if she had seen a ghost.
