"What is she unhappy about?" I said casually.
Mina shrugged and said, "You'd have to ask her yourself. But, Anan, I'll be honest with you, even if Xiao Minxing is sick, even if there are real problems at his company, he is still a catch in front of most women. I still stand by what I said: if you have feelings for him, you should figure out how to solve the problems between you two and get on with your life."
It sounded nice, but those old issues of mine—where was I supposed to resolve them?
I was even afraid that talking too much with Xiao Minxing would trigger his illness, so I only spoke a few words when he brought it up; I didn't dare to mention it lightly myself.
However, Mina suggested, "Just talk to him about your childhood memories. If he doesn't remember, remind him. If he does remember, then that's perfect!"
"Isn't it better if he doesn't remember?" I countered.
She nodded and said, "Of course! If he doesn't remember, then you can truly start over."
That day, I didn't give Mina any response, but after we strolled around outside and returned home, that thought took root in my mind and kept digging deeper into my heart.
If I didn't have a proper conversation with Xiao Minxing, perhaps my days ahead wouldn't be stable. Besides, he had said that we should trust each other in the future and that I should tell him directly if something was bothering me. So this was a good opportunity to talk things through.
However, sometimes things just don't go as planned. That night, Xiao Minxing didn't come home.
He called me around five o'clock and said he still had some matters to handle at the company and needed to return to the old house for a bit. Then it seemed like there was something going on with Lu Yi Heng as well, so he might not come back.
I relayed this news to Jin Ke so she wouldn't have to prepare dinner for Xiao Minxing that night, but deep down, I felt particularly uncomfortable.
Was Lu Yi Heng really that important? Or was it not him at all but his sister Lu Yishan?
Meals were tasteless, like wax. After dinner, Jin Ke suggested going for a walk, but I was too lazy to move. Besides, I had already wandered around with Mina for most of the afternoon, and my legs were a bit tired. I hadn't done much work all day, so I let her go out alone while I locked myself in the Study Room.
I couldn't concentrate on my work. My Mobile Phone was sitting on the table, and many times I felt like calling him, but in the end, I held back.
If he didn't live here, whatever he was busy with wouldn't concern me at all. I wouldn't feel so anxious. Right now, he was just borrowing a place to stay; did that mean I had to monitor his every move?
If I called him and ended up angering him like before, what would be the point?
Time seemed to stand still. After checking my Mobile Phone several times, only about half an hour had passed, yet my restlessness grew stronger. Eventually, I could only leave the Study Room and return to the Bedroom.
However, it didn't make me feel any better. My mind was filled with his image and the way he looked at me.
I stood on the terrace for a long time. The cool breeze of Night had begun to blow, carrying the salty scent from the distant seaside, reminiscent of that villa.
I didn't want to torment myself any longer. With a firm resolve, I took out my Mobile Phone and dialed his number.
Xiao Minxing picked up quickly and asked on the other end, "What's up? Is there something?"
I shook my head, realizing he couldn't see me, and hurriedly said, "Nothing. Just wanted to ask where you are right now."
There was a pause on his end before he replied, "I'm at the old house discussing some matters."
After that, there was no more conversation. We both fell silent for half a minute until Xiao Minxing spoke again: "Have you eaten?"
I replied with a soft "mm," then asked him back, "Have you eaten?"
He also made a sound of acknowledgment before saying, "Alright, you should rest early. I'll see if I can handle things here quickly and head back."
Hope suddenly surged within me, and I almost anxiously asked, "What time?"
He paused for a moment before replying, "Not sure yet; I still need to go to Yi Heng's place. You don't have to wait for me. If it gets too late, I won't come back."
Not knowing what else to say, he hung up first.
I held my mobile phone for a long time, as if I could still hear his voice in my ears, but I felt that the moment the call ended, he was already far away from me.
Jin Ke returned from her walk around nine o'clock. She casually asked, "Xiao Zong hasn't come back yet?"
I shook my head and said weakly, "He probably won't come back tonight. You should rest early; there's no need to wait for him."
She didn't say anything further and helped me tidy up my bathing clothes, running hot water for me to wash up.
When I came out, I saw Jin Ke standing on the balcony in the same spot where I had stood earlier, and my mobile phone was flashing a bit of blue light.
She turned around when she heard the door sound and saw my gaze. She glanced at my mobile phone and then asked, "Sister An, you left your mobile phone here. I think I just heard a message come in; you should check it."
I walked over to pick up my mobile phone and found that there was indeed a message inside, but it was just junk advertising.
I smiled at her and said, "Nowadays, besides advertisements, no one uses this method to send messages anymore, right?"
Jin Ke chuckled lightly but didn't say anything further. She turned back to her room and took some clothes into the bathroom to shower.
I felt a bit cold standing in the Living Room in my pajamas for a while, so I returned to the Bedroom and wrapped myself in the blanket.
After Jin Ke took a shower, as usual, she prepared some fruits and dairy products for me before bed.
When she brought the tray into my room, she smiled and asked, "Sister An, are you going to sleep now?"
I put the book I was holding aside and shook my head at her, saying, "Not really, I'm just a little cold, so I came to sit on the bed."
She got up to check the window for me, and when she returned, she sat down in the chair by the bed and chatted with me about the recent weather.
She is truly a thoughtful person; while others might only do one thing as a nanny, she takes care of many tasks. It's understandable that Mina feels wary of her; after all, people who are too outstanding can be hard to accept.
Thinking this made me laugh; Mina shouldn't be that kind of person. She has always acknowledged others' talents while also recognizing her own shortcomings.
"Sister An, your smile is so sweet! Are you thinking about Xiao Zong?" Jin Ke asked me.
Suddenly coming back to my senses, I looked at her; she was also looking at me with curiosity in her eyes.
"No, I was thinking about Mina, which is why I smiled." I thought to myself, "If it were Xiao Minxing, even if I thought of him, there wouldn't be anything funny about it. That guy... sigh..."
"Then why are you shaking your head again?" Jin Ke asked me with a smile.
We often chat like this. Due to our similar ages and Jin Ke's good communication skills, it has reduced the loneliness I used to feel when talking to Xiao Minxing. Sometimes when I'm bored sitting alone, I'll find her to talk for a bit. After finishing her tasks, she sometimes talks to me while working.
