Xiao Minxing glanced at the narrow hospital bed, raised his hand gently to rest on my belly, which was visible even through the blanket, and said softly, "I've been sleeping for a long time, that's enough. You lie down for a bit, and when you wake up, we'll go home. It's really uncomfortable to sleep here."
His greatest ability was his strong presence that made others listen to him. Even if they were somewhat reluctant in their hearts, they would still unconsciously obey.
Just like me now, my eyes were on him, listening to his words, feeling warmth in my heart like sugar melting away. My body slowly slipped under the blanket, and then under his gaze, my consciousness gradually became blurry until I completely fell asleep.
In my dreams, I could still feel a large hand holding mine, as if someone was speaking beside me, but I couldn't hear a word. Instead, I wanted to wave my hand to push him away because he disturbed my sleep.
Unexpectedly, as soon as I lifted my hand, I heard a "slap" sound. When I opened my eyes, I saw Xiao Minxing's red and embarrassed face right in front of me, and his gaze...
That gaze seemed to accuse me of having done something wrong to him, filled with resentment and anger as he stared straight at me.
"What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?" I shrank back into the blanket, a bit scared and not daring to meet his eyes.
Xiao Minxing let out a long sigh and said in a deep voice, "Get up, lazybones. Sister Liu has come to pick you up."
I immediately sat up from the bed, causing him to gasp. He came over to support me while saying, "Can you be more careful? With your belly this big, getting up suddenly is not good."
It felt like the situation had flipped; clearly he was the one who was injured and hospitalized, yet here he was taking care of me. What was going on?
Before I could sort out this relationship clearly, the door of the ward opened again, and Sister Liu walked in holding a lunchbox.
Xiao Minxing had already straightened up; all his previous emotions and unique expressions had vanished. He spoke formally to both Sister Liu and me: "You take care of her and eat first. I'm going to handle the discharge paperwork; we'll head home soon."
Sister Liu nodded eagerly in agreement and brought the lunchbox over to place it in front of me.
I was stunned for a moment before realizing, "Hey, wait a minute! He's the one in the hospital; I'm perfectly fine. Why do I need you to take care of my meals?"
Unfortunately, by that time Xiao Minxing had already left, and Sister Liu had already served porridge into a bowl while smiling at me: "You're pregnant; you definitely need more care than a strong man like him."
Just like that, my anxiety from last night turned into them all surrounding me.
After finishing the discharge procedures, Xiao Minxing came back, and I had almost finished a bowl of porridge. The three of us simply tidied up our things and left the Hospital.
However, once we got home, he didn’t linger and quickly grabbed his things to head to work.
I chased out from the room, initially wanting to persuade him a bit, but seeing his hurried demeanor, I knew he must have a lot to handle today. It would probably be pointless for me to say anything, so I could only remind him to take care of himself.
Mina arrived at our house around nine in the morning.
As soon as she opened the door, she rushed to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. After gulping it down, she said, “Oh my, I’ve been so busy all day.”
I shot her a glance and asked, “How did it go with what you were supposed to ask? If there’s no news, just drink your water and leave quickly. Seeing you makes me angry.”
Mina paused with the bottle and dashed over to me but stopped right in front of me, grinning and saying, “You heartless person! Ever since I left the Hospital yesterday, I haven’t slept a wink or eaten anything. Finally made it here for a sip of water, and you want to kick me out.”
I replied without holding back, “That’s why I told you to drink some water before leaving. If you hadn’t insisted on pulling me back last night, Xiao Minxing wouldn’t have gotten hurt. Even if we had found him a bit earlier, things wouldn’t have escalated like this, right?”
Mina squinted at me and asked, “Do you know what happened?”
“I don’t know the details, but he really is injured, and I think the situation is quite serious.”
Mina nodded solemnly and said, “You guessed right. It seems that during your time as Mrs. Xiao, you’ve made some progress; at least you have some insight now.”
I ignored her attitude. Considering she hadn’t slept all night, her mood wouldn’t be great either. I let Sister Liu prepare her a cup of hot milk before asking, “Did you find Zhuo Feng?”
Mina nodded slightly and then asked me, “What do you think happened?”
I couldn’t guess at all and couldn’t make sense of last night’s events either. Given their personalities and problem-solving abilities, even if there were conflicts among them, they wouldn’t resort to fighting. At least I didn’t think Su Qian would.
Mina shook her head with a bitter smile and said, “Let me first tell you where I found him.”
She shifted her gaze to my face and after a moment continued, "Next to a trash can outside a bar, covered in dirt and stinking, with blood everywhere. It's much worse than what happened to Xiao Minxing."
"What happened to him?" I asked anxiously. Although I didn't know the cause of the incident, it shouldn't involve Zhuo Feng. Could Su Qian really have beaten both of them?
I never expected him to be hurt this badly.
Mina sighed and said, "I also want to know what happened. I could only take him to the Hospital, treat his wounds first, then let him sober up. I took care of him until this morning."
"Su Qian hit them?" It was about the only thing I could think of, but I couldn't believe it was true.
Even Mina widened her eyes at my words and exclaimed, "Let's not even talk about why he would hit those two. Just your family’s Xiao Minxing, with that explosive temper of his, Su Qian might have trained in martial arts for a few years, but he wouldn't stand a chance against him. And Zhuo Feng, don't be fooled by his usual nice guy demeanor; if it comes down to a fight, he's no pushover either."
Hearing this made me anxious. I glared at her and said, "Then just tell me everything at once! We're already at this point; what more is there to hide? You're driving me crazy!"
Mina downed the glass of milk on the table as if she had made up her mind and said, "This is quite a long story. It's not even about Su Qian; it's about that bunch from the Xiao Family. Not one of them can be spared."
"What do you mean? What does this have to do with the Xiao Family?" I asked her in confusion.
Mina said bitterly, "The ones who beat them up last night were people from the Xiao Family. To put it bluntly, they were sent by the Xiao Family, specifically Xiao Minxing's older brother and sister. They originally went to beat up Xiao Minxing, but ended up beating both Zhuo Feng and Su Qian as well."
Is this really happening? I could hardly believe it. My impression of Xiao Minfeng was that he looked intimidating like a tiger skin but acted recklessly without thinking things through. As for Xiao Minhui, she was even more troublesome; if she really had any ability, she wouldn't have squandered everything her father left her.
