Other people's love stories begin with sweetness and gradually move towards simplicity, while ours is completely the opposite.
At first, we were like fire and water, wanting each other dead, and it seemed we were heading towards destruction, yet we found a way to be reborn from the ashes.
Looking at the person standing on the stage, the past violence and irritability have vanished; now he is calm, stable, and speaks eloquently without losing his humor.
Is this still the Xiao Minxing from two years ago?
Or is he still the same person from a year ago?
Perhaps he wasn't like this just six months ago.
I can't quite figure out what has happened between us during this time. Days have passed one after another; I haven't summarized anything or even paid much attention to it. Yet both of us seem to have changed our temperaments completely.
His speech was long, lasting over ten minutes before concluding, and then I heard applause and cheers.
Someone walked down from the stage, holding a large bouquet of Flowers. The fragrance and vibrant colors overwhelmed my senses, and when I looked up, I saw Xiao Minxing standing right in front of me.
He wore a faint smile on his face, his eyes fixed on me, holding a ring in his hand.
He had actually given me many rings before; even during our first wedding, though awkwardly done, all the necessary rituals were followed. In fact, it was even more elaborate. I have since forgotten where that ring ended up.
Perhaps it was because our married life was unhappy that many things lost their value; back then, I even thought about selling all the jewelry he gave me for money to escape his home.
But now, the same ring is in front of me, and what wells up inside is emotion and deep affection.
“Qiu Yuhan, will you marry me?”
Xiao Minxing said.
He liked to call my name with both my first and last name, and each word was pronounced particularly clearly.
I extended my finger and looked at him, saying, "Try to see if the ring can fit on my fingers, which have gotten two sizes bigger. If it doesn't fit, don't blame me for being rude."
Laughter erupted in the room, and everyone's eyes were focused on Xiao Minxing's hand.
I looked too.
Unfortunately, he didn't make a fool of himself; the ring slid on smoothly, and he even picked it up and kissed it before finally pulling me into his arms.
At that moment, I had dreamed of this many times before, but the embrace in my dreams was not as warm as this one, and the person was not as real as he was now, nor was the scene like this.
From Xiao Minxing's side, I saw Mina's eyes glistening with tears; she looked at me, smiling while crying.
In a distant corner, Zhuo Feng and Su Qian sat together, both holding wine glasses, not speaking or looking at each other, just drinking.
Someone walked past at the end of the cabin; he glanced inside just as I saw him too; both his gaze and figure were familiar.
I broke free from Xiao Minxing's embrace and walked outside.
He followed closely behind me, his hand still firmly on my arm, asking, "What's wrong?"
"I saw him—the one who saved me in Community."
I was eager to see him, wanting to ask who he was, why he followed me, and why he helped me in secret.
But by the time we reached the deck outside, there was no trace of him; only the sea breeze blew gently with a chill.
I turned to Xiao Minxing and said, "Did you charter this boat? It's not that big, we should be able to find him."
Xiao Minxing glanced to the side and said, "The boat hasn't left the port, people can come and go freely. He probably left already. But since he followed you and didn't mean you any harm, there should be another chance to meet in the future, so there's no need to rush."
At that moment, the people in the cabin also came out. It didn't seem appropriate for us to just stand there, so we followed them back.
After a bit of commotion, things settled down. After all, it wasn't a formal engagement banquet, and Xiao Minxing likely considered my health when arranging the schedule, so it wasn't too long.
Once the guests gradually dispersed, besides me and him in the cabin, there were only Mina, Zhuo Feng, and Su Qian left.
The two of them had been drinking in the corner and looked quite drunk at this point. They didn't care whether others had left; they just kept drinking cup after cup.
Mina later found a spot to sit down, but it was on the outer deck.
The wind tousled her hair into strands that blew away, and her clothes fluttered in the breeze, making her look cold.
I walked over to her and asked, "Xiao Minxing's colleagues still have to go to work this afternoon. What about you? Are you going back to the company?"
Mina looked up at me, her voice so soft it could be carried away by the wind: "I should. It doesn't matter if I go or not."
I placed my hand on her shoulder, wanting to say something comforting, but I couldn't find the right words.
When Xiao Minxing came out from inside, he said, "They're drunk. I'll have someone take them back. Mina, why don't you come with us?"
Mina didn't even turn to look at him; she faced the vast sea and said, "I haven't been to the seaside in a long time. I want to stay a little longer. You guys go back first."
Her state made me uneasy. I used the excuse of needing to ask her something and forcibly pulled her into the car to leave with us.
Xiao Minxing had to go to the company in the afternoon for some matters, so Mina stayed at home with me.
She lay on a chair on the terrace, unbothered by the cold, and looked at me indoors, asking, "You’re not really looking for me, are you?"
I didn’t respond and just looked at her.
Mina chuckled to herself and asked, "Are you worried I might commit suicide?"
Her question made me a bit unhappy, so I stared at her and said, "I'm not worried about you committing suicide; I'm just afraid you might end up in that icy water and freeze. I can't take care of you in my current situation."
Mina pouted and said, "To be honest, Anan, if it weren't for your family insisting that I go today, I really wouldn't want to. Even though I'm in the same company as Zhuo Feng now, we hardly see each other all day."
I believed her because they were on different floors, and when busy, it was possible to go days without seeing each other, especially now.
In the past, everyone in the company knew that Mina was Zhuo Feng's designated girlfriend and would eventually marry him. But it seemed like overnight, the man found someone else, and naturally, the woman became the object of sympathy.
Mina smiled bitterly and said, "Sometimes, just when my heart is slightly hurt, someone comes to comfort me and pretends to scold her. Can I blame them for being meddlesome?"
The onlookers didn’t understand the truth; it sounded like no one could blame them. Yet they repeatedly reopened her wounds.
"Why don't you have a good talk with Zhuo Feng? Maybe..."
"That's impossible. If there was a need to talk before, now there's really nothing to think about. I can tell that woman truly likes him, and she has been in this small company for so many years for him. It's not easy when you think about it."
