"What's going on? Who's here?" I exclaimed.
At that moment, Xiao Minxing also turned his head, his gaze sharply fixed on Mina.
Mina timidly glanced at him and stammered, "I saw a clueless person on the first floor asking everyone where Anan lives. From the looks of it, I guessed it must be Ye Guang. But don't worry, he hasn't noticed me yet; I quickly slipped back."
Xiao Minxing then shifted his gaze to me, not getting angry but simply asking, "How did he find this place? Do you still have contact with him?"
This matter could no longer be hidden, and since I was in a life-and-death situation, I couldn't be bothered to hide anything from him. I straightforwardly recounted what happened with the phone call yesterday.
I initially thought Xiao Minxing would pretend he didn't hear and ignore it, but unexpectedly, he seemed to have taken something today and said, "Mina, it's inconvenient for us to go down now. You go bring him up; I want to see what he intends to do."
"Ah... ah? Bring him up here?" Mina was startled, first looking at Xiao Minxing and then at me, her eyes filled with desperation.
I remained silent because the pain had returned fiercely. I slid down from the edge of the bed, beads of sweat and tears flooding my face as I clutched Xiao Minxing's arm, wishing I could break it to lessen my suffering.
His voice softened suddenly: "Should we just go for a cesarean? It would hurt less."
I had considered countless thoughts, but having a knife cut into me felt worse than death.
After my bout of pain subsided, Mina hurried downstairs.
When Ye Guang arrived, my new wave of pain hit again. I couldn't even manage a word with him; I felt like I was about to faint.
Xiao Minxing was extremely anxious and picked me up, rushing toward the doctor.
Mina followed behind him, and Ye Guang followed her.
The results from the doctor’s examination were still not very ideal, but I had almost reached my limit. After being persuaded by Mina and Xiao Minxing, I ultimately decided to go through with the cesarean section.
As we entered the Delivery Room, Xiao Minxing held my hand tightly and softly said, "It's okay, don't be afraid. I'm here, and it won't hurt. They will use Anesthesia."
"What did you say about Anesthesia?" I glanced at him from the hospital bed.
Then I saw him solemnly nodding, while all the doctors looked at me as if I were a fool.
I probably was the only one who thought that a cesarean section involved just cutting open and taking the baby out. But now they were using Anesthesia, so it didn't hurt at all. Moreover, medical technology had advanced to the point where even the sutures used were of the highest quality. There was no need to remove them later; once the wound healed, the stitches would automatically dissolve inside, leaving no trace visible.
I stared blankly at the Surgical Light above me, listening to the doctor explain this knowledge. My heart was filled with mixed feelings—both resentment that they hadn't told me earlier and frustration at my own ignorance.
Once the Anesthesia took effect, my abdomen began to feel numb. I couldn't see what everyone was busy doing, but I could see Xiao Minxing's face.
He tried hard to appear calm, but it seemed too horrifying at the scene, so beads of sweat quickly appeared on his forehead. Yet he still tried to comfort me by saying it was fine.
The baby came out smoothly; indeed, I felt no pain at all. Instead, I heard the baby's cries, which were loud and clear.
Some people began busying themselves with stitching up my wound, while a nurse took the baby away to weigh and measure its length before placing it in the crib prepared beside us.
I heard simple conversations between the doctor and nurse about both the baby and me.
Most of it was positive and did not cause any concern.
The stone that had been hanging in my heart finally dropped, but my body felt weak and devoid of any strength. I barely opened my eyes to look at the person beside me.
Xiao Minxing's eyes shimmered with tears. When our gazes met, his expression softened like water. He gently kissed my forehead and choked out, "You've worked hard."
I wanted to say something to him, but I had no strength left. Moreover, after shedding the burden, my body began to feel cold.
Doctor had already gone out to notify Family Member, and Mina came over with a blanket and some things for the child.
As we returned to the hospital room, she quietly said, "We've changed rooms; it's a private one."
I was utterly exhausted and didn't ask her anything. After checking on the child, all I wanted was to wrap myself in a blanket and get a good sleep.
It wasn't until I woke up that I heard Mina talking to Xiao Minxing about how the room change was arranged by Ye Guang's family.
Their voices were low, but it was quiet here, so I could still catch the gist of it.
It turned out that Ye Guang had slipped out while the people at his hospital were busy celebrating the New Year. He had searched many hospitals before finding us here. If Mina had gone down a little later, he might have left again.
When his family heard that he had sneaked out, they must have first gone to the hospital to inquire about the situation before coming out to look for him. While I was in the operating room giving birth, Ye Guang was also confronting his family.
Mina had almost witnessed everything, so her voice sounded a bit strange as she said, "Anan said he usually struggles to speak fluently, but when negotiating with his family, it was as if he had rehearsed it perfectly. Not only did he demand that the doctors taking care of him not be blamed, but he also insisted on getting you a private room. Otherwise, he wouldn't return to the hospital and would jump off the railing instead. This kind of behavior of threatening to die doesn't seem like something a mentally challenged person would do."
"The railing isn't very high, but it's all glass below. If he really jumped down, he would definitely get hurt. So in the end, his family had no choice but to agree. The doctor followed along and took him away."
Xiao Minxing remained silent, quietly listening until she finished speaking.
I heard Mina ask, "When Anan wakes up, should we tell her about this?"
"Go ahead and tell her. I'll step out to make a call and check on the nanny and the situation with the postpartum care. Although this is a private room, it would still be troublesome if several people were to stay here."
After he finished speaking, he walked outside, and the room fell silent again.
I heard Mina approaching me before I opened my eyes to look at her.
After Anesthesia, the pain from the wound was severe. I had been trying my best to endure it while listening to their conversation, but as soon as I opened my eyes, tears couldn't help but flow.
Panicking, Mina rushed in front of me and asked, "What's wrong? Xiao Zong just went out. I'll call him back. Don't cry, Anan. Just say what's on your mind; you're still in postpartum care, and crying too much will hurt your eyes."
She kept talking non-stop, while I could only utter one word: "Pain."
Mina comforted me while already pressing the call button at the head of the bed.
Soon, a Nurse came over. They were relatively nice and checked my wound before saying, "It's all fine; the wound will hurt for a couple of days. Just bear with it a little longer. If it becomes unbearable, we can consult the Doctor, but generally speaking, using too much pain medication isn't good for your body, so we don't recommend it."
Mina asked, "So it's going to hurt like this for a while?"
The Nurse could only repeat what she had said earlier, stating that the pain would last for a few days and then subside.
We were both at a loss regarding this situation, but the pain was indeed very debilitating. I had almost no thoughts left to inquire about Ye Guang's condition; all my focus was solely on my abdomen.
