The next morning, when I woke up, I felt like all my bones were falling apart, but Xiao Minxing was in the best spirits ever, with a smile on his face the whole time.
He got up early but didn’t rush to work as usual; instead, he waited at home for me to wake up.
After looking at me for a moment, he leaned over with some concern and asked, “Did you overdo it last night?”
I felt my face burn at his words and shrank back under the covers, saying, “You know very well, so why didn’t you take it easy?”
Xiao Minxing shamelessly replied, “It’s been a while since I came over, and you look like a little enchantress. I just couldn’t control myself.”
Well, although I couldn’t tell if he was complimenting or scolding me, hearing him say it slowly made me feel somewhat pleased. I reached out from under the covers and tugged at his hand, asking, “Why aren’t you going to work today?”
He held my hand back and looked into my eyes for a long time before saying, “I was a bit worried about you. Now that you seem fine, I’ll be leaving. When I come back, I’ll tell you something.”
I’m quite impatient, so upon hearing this, I simply wouldn’t let him go and pulled him back, saying, “Just tell me now! Why make me wait another day?”
“I thought you looked too tired and wanted you to rest a bit more. It’s not anything important; let’s talk about it when I get back tonight. Be good and have a good sleep. I’ll have Sister Liu make you something delicious to replenish your energy; there will be plenty of days like this in the future.”
As he spoke, he gave me a meaningful glance.
At this point, I obediently let go of him. I didn’t want to be caught in an awkward situation with someone outside walking around while we were inside reenacting a scene.
He smiled proudly for a moment, stood up, and said, “Rest well; I’ll be back tonight.”
It was clearly a normal statement, but at that moment it felt like an implication. I hid under the covers and waved at him. When I heard the door sound, I peeked out again but saw that Xiao Minxing hadn’t actually left; he was standing by the Entrance, looking in my direction.
Our gazes met in the air, and just as it seemed we were about to stir up some commotion again, Xiao Minxing quickly turned around and walked outside.
Through the door, I could still hear him instructing Sister Liu on what to prepare for me.
I hid under the covers in confusion. When did this guy start researching this? He even knew how to nourish yin and supplement yang; I was quite taken aback.
However, after getting up and seeing the sweet soup that Sister Liu had prepared for me, my appetite immediately returned, and I ate happily.
The daytime passed as usual: drawing, playing with the kids, and sometimes chatting with Sister Liu.
After noon, I started looking forward to Xiao Minxing coming back early. We have been married for a long time and even have a child together. We've experienced many things in life, but after last night, my emotions were still stirred up, and I particularly wanted to see him sooner.
I felt embarrassed about my thoughts and contradictorily justified to myself that I just wanted to know what he wanted to say to me.
Xiao Minxing came back at the usual time, but as soon as I saw him, all the events from last night flashed through my mind, and I felt my face burn again.
He glanced at me and smiled mischievously.
However, he was more composed than I was, quietly eating his meal and even taking some time to play with our son.
Little One was born on New Year's Eve, but it was already past one in the morning, so it counted as a New Year's birthday. Now he is over three months old.
The name we chose for him together is Xiao Zhe.
I don't know if Xiao Zhe understands us or if he is just entertaining himself, but he has already outgrown the crying phase from when he was first born. Now, whenever he sees us talking, he joins in with his own "aah" sounds, sometimes waving his little hands and drooling, which makes him look quite funny.
Xiao Minxing spends more and more time with him. Watching him hold Xiao Zhe tightly and not wanting to let go is truly a beautiful scene of fatherly love.
The nanny we hired during my delivery is named Wang. She works very well with Sister Liu. They handle almost everything around the house; if one takes care of Xiao Zhe, the other cooks or does laundry.
I don’t want to disrupt this harmonious situation, but having two nannies at home is quite a significant expense. Xiao Minxing hasn’t said anything about it, but I feel particularly upset about it myself.
Every penny we spend now comes from Xiao Minxing working overtime and earning hard money. I want to help him but don’t know where to start. The only thing I can do is to paint more, but that income is unreliable. So far, I've only received a little money—barely enough for a month’s groceries.
So after my body gradually recovered, I thought about going out to work as well.
I didn’t know what Xiao Minxing wanted to tell me tonight, but I wanted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts with him.
After Sister Wang and Sister Liu took Xiao Zhe to rest in the evening, Xiao Minxing was busy in the Study Room for quite a while. When I pushed the door open, he actually smiled and said, “Did you start off thinking you couldn’t hold back anymore and wanted to begin here?”
I didn’t immediately understand what he meant. By the time I realized it, that Good Fellow was already laughing so much that his eyebrows were not eyebrows and his eyes were not eyes.
I pinched his arm playfully before sitting down in the chair next to him and asked irritably, “Didn’t you say you had something to tell me? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come over.”
Xiao Minxing smiled as he put down the documents in his hand and asked while turning to look at me, “Do you still want to be my secretary?”
“Ah? Still do?”
Xiao Minxing nodded and said, "Yeah, still doing it. Are you coming or not?"
He smiled, and when he looked at me, he playfully raised the corner of his eye.
Alright then, we were having a serious discussion, but it ended up taking a turn. I still couldn't accept this feeling of him being so unpredictable, so I always took a while to understand what he meant, while that Good Fellow had already laughed until his eyes were squinted.
I angrily said, "You're being really bad right now. I'm not talking to you anymore."
As I stood up and pretended to leave, he had already grabbed my arm and pulled me onto his lap, saying, "I'm talking about serious matters. You don't have to follow me to the company every day; you can stay at home and help me look over some documents. There are some things we need to handle privately, and we can discuss them when I get back."
Hearing this, I straightened my expression and asked him, "Is the company that busy right now? I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it. Shouldn't you hire another assistant?"
Xiao Minxing shook his head and said, "The matters we need to deal with are similar to what you've encountered before. Hiring an assistant isn't suitable, so it's better if you do it."
"But I don't know how!"
Having never worked in an office before, I had no confidence at all.
However, Xiao Minxing bent down and took out a Document Bag from the drawer, placing it on the table as he said, "I'll teach you; it's not that difficult."
I had seen that Document Bag before; it was filled with information about the Xiao Family's assets. Now that Xiao Minxing handed it to me, he only said to familiarize myself with the data inside first. Once I understood it, he would talk to me about other matters later.
