We can only take him out for a walk after the sun sets or when he hasn't come out in the morning; there's no other way.
Every time Xiao Minxing sees him like this, she discusses with me whether we should change houses.
To be honest, our current house is really not enough for us. The place is filled with Xiao Zhe, and his crawling speed is getting faster and faster. As he grows, his agility and strength are no longer what they used to be.
Those barriers can no longer contain him; he can climb out from inside. If he can't get out, he cries loudly until you let him out.
It doesn't matter what toys are inside; as long as he's locked up, he won't play with anything and will focus on challenging those barriers until he's released.
With two nannies at home, Xiao Minxing and I, this 200-square-meter house is really too small. But changing houses isn't that easy, is it?
So although Xiao Minxing has mentioned it a few times, we haven't done anything about it.
The change began when we went to the Xiao Family.
In May, for Old Master Xiao's birthday, according to their family's past customs, they wouldn't hold a grand birthday banquet. However, this year is a milestone birthday, and since the old man has been in a bad mood all year or for other reasons, I've heard that they plan to hold a big celebration.
Naturally, we had to go back. However, with just Xiao Minxing and me taking Xiao Zhe, we couldn't manage it at all. That little guy doesn't stop for a moment, and he's already grown quite strong. After holding him for half an hour, my arms felt sore, so in the end, I had to bring Sister Liu along too.
In the courtyard of the Xiao Family old house, many cars were already parked. It was clear that besides their siblings, many of Old Master Xiao's old friends were also present.
As soon as Xiao Zhe saw so many people, he was overjoyed and struggled to get down from Sister Liu to move around by himself.
I saw that Sister Liu really couldn't hold him anymore; she was sweating all over. I suggested letting him down as long as we kept an eye on him and made sure he didn't grab dirty things or disturb others.
At first, he was quite well-behaved, sitting on the carpet playing for a while before trying to crawl forward to explore.
But then he couldn't be stopped; he charged straight into the crowd like a little soldier.
Today at the Xiao Family, many people came—some gathered in the living room while others were in the courtyard. There were those who spoke loudly and those who whispered.
All of the Xiao Family siblings were in the living room except for Xiao Minxing, who went upstairs with Old Master Xiao after returning and hasn't come down for a long time.
I looked at Sister Liu, and we both kept an eye on Xiao Zhe, always watching the direction of the stairs.
When I heard Xiao Zhe crying loudly, I hurriedly looked down.
The little guy was crying his heart out, clutching his chubby little fingers, which were already red and looked like someone had stepped on them.
Sister Liu was in a panic, quickly picking him up and trying to head back to the Side Room.
But Xiao Minhui was already glaring at her impatiently, shouting, "What are you making noise for? Don't you know what day it is? Why bring such a little thing here?"
I was furious as well. I walked over to her side and asked, "Sister, what day is it today? Why can't we bring the grandson of the Xiao Family here?"
Xiao Minhui squinted her eyes, trying hard to look disdainful. However, she was shorter than me, a bit overweight, and her makeup wasn't done well, so her expression lacked the intended intimidation and instead looked somewhat disgusting.
I hadn't planned to confront her since we were in the old house with Old Master Xiao and Mrs. Xiao above us, and there were many outsiders present. If we made a scene, it would only make us a laughingstock. Plus, Xiao Zhe was still crying, so I intended to turn around and comfort him.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Minhui grabbed my clothes and said, "You shameless person! Don't you know what day it is? What are you doing here?"
With a tearing sound, I felt a chill across my chest; my shirt had been ripped open.
Summer clothes are thin by nature, and she had pulled at the neckline. Although I tried my best to cover myself, there were already people gathering around to watch the commotion, gasping in surprise and stifling laughter.
I was furious and raised my hand to grab her.
Before I could even touch her, another hand moved faster than mine. A loud slap landed on Xiao Minhui's face, followed quickly by a kick.
That woman fell to the ground like a hefty kite that had just been brushed against by the wind. She wailed while glaring at us with venomous eyes.
Xiao Minxing immediately took off his jacket and put it on me before handing the car keys to Sister Liu. "You take Xiao Zhe outside first; there's medicine in the car."
Sister Liu hurriedly walked outside while chaos erupted inside.
Xiao Minying came over to help Xiao Minhui up and then scolded Xiao Minxing, saying, "Are you crazy? She's your sister; how can you do this?"
Xiao Minxing looked at her coldly and didn't respond at all.
Old Master Xiao and Mrs. Xiao came down the stairs at this moment, probably having heard the commotion downstairs, their expressions quite grim.
Li Ru was much quieter now, not stepping in to help, but after everything that had happened, Xiao Minfeng seemed to have lost his mind. When he saw his father coming down, he hurriedly went to complain.
“Dad, look at how increasingly outrageous Xiao Minxing is. In front of so many people, he turned a perfectly good birthday party into chaos. He even got into a fight and knocked Min Hui to the ground. Does he even remember that his last name is Xiao?”
Xiao Minxing shot him a sideways glance but remained silent.
Old Master Xiao was furious, his lips trembling with anger, but he quickly noticed the guests he had invited were watching him with amusement, so he gritted his teeth and suppressed his rage.
Then he glanced at Xiao Minhui, who was still lying on the ground, and said, “What’s wrong? Can’t you get up after a fall? If you really can’t get up, have someone take you home first; don’t embarrass yourself here.”
Xiao Minhui had been hoping her father would avenge her, but upon hearing this, she was taken aback and then began to cry uncontrollably.
“Dad, it was Xiao Minxing who hit me! You can’t be so biased in helping him. Are you just going to watch him kill someone without intervening?”
Old Master Xiao was nearly fainting with anger and shouted for someone to drag her out.
However, the enraged Xiao Minhui no longer cared about anything. She had tried multiple times to gain something from her father but ended up with nothing and now faced this situation. With the conflict already ignited in front of so many people, she likely couldn’t swallow her anger.
So before anyone could approach her, she stood up abruptly and fixed her venomous gaze on everyone one by one until it landed on Old Master Xiao. “Dad, don’t keep blaming my brother for being useless. This is probably hereditary; men always think little wives are better. If the elder dies, it serves him right; the children born are also not favored as long as there’s a younger one, right? Xiao Minxing, don’t get too proud; if you keep causing trouble, you’ll still be just a child born of a little wife.”
