Su Qian's expression was one of disbelief, his eyes wide as he looked at me.
Actually, I couldn't remember if it was something I said or if Xiao Minxing had said it before, but since nothing had happened, it didn't matter who said it, so I just continued with the previous topic: "You say Ye Guang has grown up so much; if they don't care about him, they might as well hand him over to someone else."
As soon as I said this, Su Qian laughed and shook his head lightly, saying, "I didn't expect you to say something like that. It seems Xiao Zong has protected you very well; you haven't been involved in any human affairs at all."
I quickly glanced at him and asked, "Is that a compliment?"

Well, hearing that tone made it clear it wasn't exactly a good thing. However, Su Qian rarely joked with me before. This time, after not talking for a long time and suddenly meeting again, I was still quite happy that we could chat so pleasantly.
During the meal, Su Qian also explained some things about Ye Guang's parents to me.
According to him, the Ye Family is quite prominent in Haicheng; they would never raise their son in someone else's home, especially not in a family like ours that has no connection to them.
It seemed that his parents clearly didn't want to take care of him and had no one else to take over, so they could only send him to a mental hospital. This way, even if Ye Guang did something wrong, everyone could understand and think he was sick. I particularly disliked this reasoning but had to admit that Su Qian made some sense; at least Mrs. Ye's actions were like this.
I had seen her in front of the medical staff saying how many things she brought for Ye Guang, yet she wouldn't even accompany him for a single conversation.
Thinking about it made me feel a bit frustrated, and I casually said, "Is Ye Guang really their biological child?"
Unexpectedly, Su Qian replied, "That's hard to say. I've heard that the Ye Family hasn't been very prosperous in terms of offspring with Ye Guang's generation. Although there are a few children, most of them are weak and sickly. Moreover, Mrs. Ye was married for many years without having children and then suddenly had this son."
There must be some hidden truth behind this, and it's buried deep. I didn't know how Su Qian found out about it, but Xiao Minxing and I had never heard anything like this before.
When Su Qian spoke about it, he seemed casual, but from his tone, it sounded like he was somewhat dissatisfied with the Ye Family's actions. So he ended up saying what should and shouldn't be said.
Fortunately, I was the only one who heard this, and luckily I wasn't foolish enough to spread it around. However, I believe that if this matter is really as he said, it will eventually come to light one day.
The hospital entrance was indeed empty again, returning to the way it looked when we first arrived.
I got out of the car and ran to the entrance to ask. The security guard told me that Ye Guang had not returned and there had been no news so far.
Back in the car, Su Qian also looked tired, seemingly not wanting to search anymore.
I hadn't gone back to see Xiao Zhe for most of the day, and since it was noon, I didn't want to go out again. So without discussing it with each other, I just drove Su Qian back to his car.
After he got out, he walked a few steps forward but then came back to tell me, "I'll have someone help inquire about it. If there's any news, I'll let you know."

It wasn't until the third day that we received news about Ye Guang, but it wasn't news of finding him.
That morning, since it was the weekend and Xiao Minxing didn't have to work, he was lying half-sitting on the bed chatting with me.

Xiao Minxing glanced at me and said, "You really care about his situation. The Ye Family has already reported it to the police; almost the entire city is looking for him. The busiest ones are at that hospital; they've sent people everywhere to search. The whole city has been turned upside down; where else can we look?"
I looked at him and asked, "Are people from the hospital also searching? Aren't they afraid of more incidents happening?"
Xiao Minxing scrolled through his mobile phone and replied, "What good is fear now? The incident has already happened; they are using everyone they can find. Ye Guang is different from others. Besides, the hospital bears full responsibility; if this person can't be found, not only will this hospital be unable to operate, but even the responsible parties inside might end up in jail."
After saying that, he muttered to himself for a while: "You know this kid looks silly most of the time, but when it comes to doing things seriously, he really makes people worry."
I slowly slid down from the other side of the bed and walked toward the bathroom while responding to Xiao Minxing: "He’s not actually silly; it's just that his family treats him like one. If he were in a different family, he might even succeed."
Xiao Minxing casually replied, "Maybe."
I went to the bathroom to freshen up, and when I came out, I saw him still sitting on the bed scrolling through his mobile phone, with a furrowed brow and an expression of anger on his face.

It was a report about Ye Guang, along with some information about him from the hospital.

It turned out that what Su Qian mentioned a couple of days ago was true—Ye Guang really wasn't the biological son of the Ye Couple but rather a child they adopted many years ago. Initially, when they adopted him, Ye Guang wasn't mentally challenged at all, but the members of the Ye Family didn't like him.
Neglect and abuse gradually made him withdrawn and lonely, ultimately turning him into what we see now.
The words on the screen were like a venomous tongue, piercing the heart—not only painful but also filled with despair.
"How could they do this? If they didn't like him, they shouldn't have adopted him. They adopted him only to mistreat him. A good person has been tortured like this by them, and in the end, they blame others."
Xiao Minxing's face looked as if it had been covered with frost; after a long while, he said, "They felt lonely without children and were afraid of what others would say. But after bringing him home, they felt he was taking from them—eating their food, drinking their drinks, occupying their time and space—so they became angry and took it out on him."
His words made my chest rise and fall; I couldn't catch my breath for quite some time.
