The next morning, we split into several groups.
Su Qian went to contact the Ye Family, while I headed to the Comic Studio, bringing Longwen along for the ride.
Of course, I didn't agree to help him find a place to live. I was afraid that Mina would kill me if she found out, so I just took him around the studio to familiarize him with the place. As for the housing situation, I told him to figure it out himself as long as he could get me the address.
Ye Guang had breakfast at our house in the morning and even played with Xiao Zhe for a while. To prevent him from feeling uncomfortable or wandering around, I took him to the Study Room before leaving and instructed Sister Liu to keep a close eye on him no matter what.
When I returned around noon, I hurried back to check on him.
As I pushed open the door to the Study Room, I saw Ye Guang sitting in a chair, his back straight, diligently sketching on the drawing board. Surprisingly, his drawing was based on the set of illustrations I had previously created for the studio.
I wasn't sure if he was too focused to hear me come in or if he simply didn't want to acknowledge me. It wasn't until I walked up to him that he finally looked up at me. However, his face showed no expression; he merely glanced at me before returning to his drawing.
I pulled up a chair and sat next to him. After watching him outline his drawing for a while, I softly asked, "Ye Guang, would you like to come draw with me and make some money? What I mean is, instead of drawing at home, we could go to other companies where there are many people like us."
He looked up at me again and nodded after a long pause, then fixed his gaze on my face.
I couldn't quite understand what he meant but continued explaining, "I'll be going too. We'll sit in a room together every day just like we did at the Studio. The only difference is that you'll be living with a handsome older brother from now on. Are you willing?"
This time he took a long time again before blinking a few times at me and then ignoring me once more as he continued with his drawing.
He wouldn't put down his brush even when Sister Liu called him down for lunch.
Sister Wang, who usually talked a lot, noticed Ye Guang eating and said to us, "You can tell he's a well-mannered child. No matter how hungry he is or how much he likes a dish, he doesn't take too much. He eats quietly and slowly; he doesn't seem like an idiot at all."
I nudged her with my foot under the table, and Sister Wang quickly shut her mouth and nervously glanced at Ye Guang.
He didn't look up as if he hadn't heard her words; his eyelids drooped as he focused on his bowl, eating slowly.
Longwen's housing situation was quickly resolved. In the afternoon, he called me to say that it was located not far across from our workplace. It would only take about ten minutes to walk there, and the place was fully furnished—ready for move-in.
He found a good house and moved his luggage from the hotel over first, then asked me to take Ye Guang over to have a look.
When I asked Ye Guang for his opinion, he didn't say anything, but when I told him to go out, he didn't object.
The house was quite nice, three bedrooms and two living rooms, over a hundred square meters. Although the space wasn't very large, it was still suitable for two simple men to live in.
After leaving Ye Guang behind, I went out to buy daily necessities and clothes for him, making sure everything was ready.
There were also results from Su Qian's side.
He didn't go into details, only saying that the Ye Family agreed with our approach, but before that, they wanted to see Ye Guang's situation first. Moreover, there was also a record with the police; we had to return Ye Guang first to deal with the immediate situation before making further plans.
I felt a bit anxious upon hearing this and asked him, "What if they don't let him go after we return him? Ye Guang is his son after all; even though he was adopted, legally they have the upper hand. If they don't allow us to take him out again, there's nothing we can do."
Su Qian smiled and said, "Don't worry about that. I won't let such a mistake happen. I'll accompany him when we send him back."
I wasn't reassured, and since Ye Guang wasn't familiar with Su Qian, I insisted on going along as well.
He didn't say much and agreed.
It was my first time going into the Ye Guang Family's place. In the government Family Member building's courtyard, there were armed guards outside; not just anyone could enter.
We filled out a lot of paperwork and were led by someone from the Ye Family before we managed to get through.
However, Ye Guang was reluctant. He tried to run away at the Community Entrance but was stopped in time by Su Qian. I had to persuade him repeatedly, telling him we were just going back to pack his things and that we would leave soon.
In the end, although he went inside, he turned his head back constantly and kept looking outside as if he were ready to run away at any moment.
I was very nervous and held onto him tightly, worried that I might not be able to keep hold of him. I also asked Su Qian to help me.
He didn’t reach out but said, "If both of us hold onto him, he'll get even more anxious. It's better to walk slowly so he can relax a bit. Besides, it's not easy to get out from the Entrance."
Our speed was so slow that it felt like we were moving like snails. A few of us seemed to be acting strangely, dragging our feet and not making any progress for a long time. However, this method did have some effect; Ye Guang no longer tried to retreat as vigorously as he had at the beginning. Plus, I kept comforting and coaxing him, so after about ten minutes, we finally arrived in front of his house.
It was a compound-style villa, looking very simple and unadorned on the outside, with no flashy decorations. The yard was also quite plain, just planted with some ordinary plants.
I couldn't tell if there was no one at home or if they were deliberately trying to mess with us, but the housekeeper led us into the yard without a single member of the Ye family coming out.
As soon as Ye Guang saw this place, he became anxious again, straining backward as if he wanted to break free from my hand and run away immediately.
Su Qian, a little behind us, looked at him and said, "It seems he’s not happy here either; otherwise, he wouldn't react so strongly."
While I was pulling Ye Guang with all my strength, I replied to him, "According to his doctor, it was because he often ran away that his family couldn’t keep an eye on him, which is why they sent him to the hospital."
Su Qian nodded slightly at me but didn’t touch Ye Guang. He continued analyzing, "That makes sense. If someone is unhappy in a place, they definitely want to leave; that's normal behavior."
Alright, I had to admit he had a point. I responded, "Normal people wouldn’t leave in this way. So you see how he is right now... Hey, can you help me hold onto him? I'm really afraid that if I let go for even a second, he'll run away."
We were just a few steps away from the entrance when Ye Guang reacted even more strongly. He squatted down and refused to move forward at all, his eyes fixed on the outside.
I felt like I wanted to reach into my throat and pull him back myself, but Su Qian still acted as if it had nothing to do with him and started analyzing Ye Guang's previous life instead.
The housekeeper had already opened the door and was waiting for us to go in. However, I couldn’t move Ye Guang; the three of us stood just a few steps away from the door in a stalemate, pulling back and forth like a tug-of-war.
