They were both getting cozy together, trying on a tie.
Xiao Minfeng was still acting flamboyantly, making the waiter bring at least a dozen ties, and there he was leisurely trying them on one by one. Jin Ke, although smiling, helped him adjust his clothes, but her eyes were cold.
It was clear that she looked down on Xiao Minfeng; her disdain was evident. She even turned her face away and rolled her eyes to show how truly displeased she was.
But I couldn't understand why she was still out with this person, especially since Xiao Minfeng wasn't divorced yet, and Li Ru wasn't someone easy to deal with. How could they dare to appear in such a public place? What was going on?
And then there was Jin Ke herself; she had committed quite a serious offense of intentional injury. How had she gotten out so quickly? Moreover, judging by her clothing and appearance, she seemed to be doing quite well.
Was she relying on Xiao Minfeng all along?
However, from what I knew about the Xiao Family's finances, Xiao Minfeng was just an empty shell now. He didn't even have the money that Li Ru controlled. The last family estate left to him by Father was also his economic lifeline, which had nearly been drained through several upheavals.
Additionally, the Xiao Family Sisters were already unhappy about their two brothers being favored by Father. Both Xiao Minhui and Xiao Minying had approached Xiao Minxing, claiming they wanted to help their elder brother, but in reality, they weren't genuinely interested in helping him; they just wanted to insert themselves into Xiao Minfeng's assets to take a little of what they coveted.
I didn't dare to stand there for long and really couldn't bear listening to this spoiled young master continuously provoking the waiter and Jin Ke's occasional cooing sounds.
I slowly backed away, not bothering to buy anything for Xiao Minxing, and directly left the central mall to take a taxi to Zhi Xing Company.
Although I arrived later than yesterday, the number of people working overtime there was still the same as the day before.
When I went to Xiao Minxing's office, he wasn't there. His assistant came over and said, "Madam, Mr. Xiao has gone out for an urgent matter. He asked you to look over these two documents and write down your opinions like yesterday."
"When will he be back?" I asked the assistant.
The assistant didn't know either; she only said it shouldn't be too long before he returned and then left the documents behind before walking away.
From the headers of the documents, it was clear that they were related to the same project I had reviewed yesterday. My comments and opinions from yesterday had already been added in and reorganized into a new plan.
As I flipped through the documents while pondering what Xiao Minxing was up to, my gaze fell upon the piles of paperwork on his desk, and I seemed to understand something.
He must really be too busy, and since he wasn't at ease delegating some tasks to others, he could only let me share some of his burden.
I am willing to do this, but I am afraid that I might not understand anything and mess up his work. However, he should have some confidence in my abilities, and the tasks he assigned are not too difficult, so I still sincerely wrote down my thoughts.
Not waiting for Xiao Minxing to return, I took the documents to the assistant's office. When I handed them over, I pretended to ask, "The document I looked at yesterday is also related to this; is there any issue with it?"
The assistant shook his head and said, "Manager Wu hasn't given any feedback about problems, so it should be fine."
I thought for a moment and asked him, "Is Manager Wu in the company now?"
The assistant nodded and then said, "Do you want to find him, ma'am?"
Actually, I hesitated a bit. After all, I am just Xiao Minxing's wife and have no authority over his company matters. However, Xiao Minxing never avoided me when discussing things with colleagues; he even brought me along to meetings. Now he has shown me such important documents, so I thought it should be okay to meet him.
I nodded to the assistant and said, "Alright, if he has time, please ask him to come over."
Manager Wu came up quickly and was very respectful upon seeing me. He hurriedly greeted me, saying, "Hello, ma'am."
I let him into Xiao Minxing's office and asked while sitting on the sofa, "I reviewed two documents related to yesterday's work and have some questions I'd like to confirm with you."
Manager Wu appeared to be in his forties and wore frameless glasses. He seemed quite cautious and earnest.
Upon hearing my words, he didn't seem surprised at all and simply said, "Please go ahead, ma'am."
There weren't any major issues; I just mentioned a few minor anomalies I noticed over the past couple of days. Moreover, I had directly included my comments in the document from yesterday.
Manager Wu listened attentively as I spoke. Not only did he patiently explain everything clearly to me, but he also shared more information about the project’s background.
It wasn't overly complicated. As I listened, I felt as though he was intentionally sharing this information with me. Fortunately, our communication went well; we could discuss some issues together. I was beginning to confirm that the methods I suggested were indeed useful.
This made me much happier. I thought that in the future after work, I should come here more often since there isn't much going on at the studio. I could help Xiao Minxing with things here.
Not long after Manager Wu left, Xiao Minxing returned.
He was wearing a trench coat and had a hint of alcohol on his breath; it was clear he had just come back from outside.
When he opened the office door and saw me there, instead of going to his desk, he came over to sit with me.
I deliberately sniffed him and frowned as I said, "Didn't you say you wouldn't drink? Why aren't you listening?"
He chuckled to himself and said, "Just one drink, it's for socializing. I can't refuse completely, but you'll have to drive today."
I pouted a bit, pretending to be unwilling.
Xiao Minxing naturally understood me better than anyone else. He didn't say much and pulled me up, saying, "Let's go, it's getting late. We should head back."
On the way, I initially wanted to talk to him about Xiao Minfeng's situation, but this Good Fellow spoke first about a client he met that evening.
From what Xiao Minxing said, the client was somewhat peculiar but held significant weight. Although he drank today, he didn't accomplish anything.
"With so many quirks, if he doesn't want to cooperate, then fine. Is he afraid he won't find anyone else?" I casually remarked.
He looked ahead at the road and replied, "We need to expand our business; we can't just limit ourselves to Haicheng. We need to develop in the surrounding areas as well, and they are the best partners. However, I can tolerate these minor issues because as long as they don't cross the line, we're all here to make money."
I turned to look at him and asked, "So you mean you still want to negotiate with him?"
"No," he said directly.
This made me a bit confused. He claimed the other party had value but also said he wouldn't pursue them. What exactly did he want? Was he just teasing me?
After a moment of silence, Xiao Minxing finally said, "He crossed my bottom line. No matter how much money he can make, I won't approach him again. I'd rather not earn that money."
