“Ruyi!”
A hoarse shout made Xing Ruyi, who had originally planned to slip away, stop in her tracks. Without needing to turn around, she knew that Ah Xing was standing behind her.
He was indeed not an ordinary “person,” moving with a speed that left even her, someone with magical abilities, unprepared. If it were a sneak attack, she feared she wouldn’t even have time to defend herself.
So, she turned around and pretended nothing was wrong, asking, “Is there anything else you need me to help with? Just so you know, at this late hour, I have no place to buy baby supplies for you.”

Inside, the damp and cold air was even heavier. Xing Ruyi instinctively rubbed her arms as she approached the stone bed. In the dim light, a woman was slightly curled up against the wall, her long black hair disheveled around her. Her face appeared ghostly pale in the candlelight.
The woman was beautiful, but not in the way that people in Tang Dynasty typically admired. First of all, she was very thin, with a delicate frame. She had an oval face, almond-shaped eyes, and a round nose above a naturally pink mouth. When she moaned, her lips pressed tightly together into a straight line, and her brows furrowed into a "川" shape. Her forehead was covered in beads of sweat. Looking down, Xing Ruyi saw the woman's protruding abdomen; compared to a normally pregnant woman, hers seemed much larger, at most resembling someone who was four or five months along.
"How long has she been pregnant?"
"Over a year, but her belly has only recently started to show," Ah Xing hesitated to answer. Each time he responded, he would glance at the woman lying on the bed; seeing her slightly nod, he would then turn back to Xing Ruyi.
"Over a year? The normal gestation period for women is only about ten months, and looking at your cousin's belly, it seems like she's only five or six months along. This is indeed strange," Xing Ruyi remarked as she placed her hand on the woman's abdomen.
A peculiar sensation transmitted from her palm; through the skin, it felt as if she could touch the head of a child. Just as she furrowed her brow in surprise, the child seemed to nuzzle against her palm playfully.
"Is it a Demonic Fetus?" Xing Ruyi wondered internally, but that strange feeling vanished. She concentrated and secretly used magic to probe into the woman's condition. She saw a child—an exceptionally handsome child who appeared no different from any normal baby.
"This is a..." Just as Xing Ruyi intended to inform Ah Xing and the child's mother that this was a lovely and perfectly normal infant, she noticed that the child smiled at her quickly. Although that smile faded almost instantly, Xing Ruyi still caught sight of an unsettling aura lingering in the child's eyes.
Indeed, this was not an ordinary infant. The mother's abdomen differed significantly from that of an average pregnant woman; the child's growth period did not align with normal gestation. Just this complex gaze alone was not something an unborn child should possess.
What should I do? Should I kill it?
Through the woman's belly, Xing Ruyi locked eyes with the strangely gazing infant. Just as she felt torn inside, she saw the child smile at her again. Suddenly, she heard the woman's piercing cries.
"He’s coming out! Cousin, this child is coming out!"
The woman's abdomen contracted rapidly. In her fearful gaze, Xing Ruyi heard a strange laughter echoing around them.
“Ruyi!”
“Ruyi!”
Hearing her cousin's shout, Ah Xing rushed to the woman's bedside, his eyes filled with helplessness and a hint of fear as he looked at Xing Ruyi.
“The Demonic Fetus is about to be born, and no one can stop it,” Xing Ruyi shook her head. It wasn't that she didn't want to help; it was just that in this situation, she had no idea how to assist. From that brief glance they shared, she understood the determination for the Demonic Fetus to be born. Forcing a stop now might endanger the woman lying on the stone bed.
“Go fetch a basin of hot water. Given the current situation, we have no other choice but to help your cousin deliver this child first.” While instructing Ah Xing, she also communicated with the Demonic Fetus in the woman's womb and tightly grasped the woman's right hand.

The woman nodded weakly: “My name is Qing Luan. I... I’ve heard my mother-in-law mention you.”

One hour passed, then two hours. Until dawn broke in the east, Qing Luan exerted all her strength. Just as she was about to collapse, the child finally slid out slowly from her body. Unlike other newborns, this child did not cry upon arrival; instead, it smiled with squinty eyes and a slight grin on its lips.
