"How is your investigation going?" I asked anxiously while sitting on the sofa, looking at Gu Shisheng.
"I've found the doctor who was responsible for sending you abroad back then. He is now retired, but his wife still works in Haishi," Gu Shisheng said solemnly, showing me a photo of a woman on his phone screen.
"I also located the doctor who treated your infertility. He said..." Wang Qian said, furrowing his brows, seeming hesitant.
"Just tell me. I can handle anything," I replied calmly, though my heart was in turmoil like a raging tsunami.
"He said... your infertility was caused intentionally," Wang Qian stated heavily, his eyes filled with sympathy and anger.
"What?" I suddenly stood up from the sofa, trembling all over, incredulously asking, "Are you saying... they... they did something to me?"
"I have contacted the relevant authorities, and they are investigating this matter," Wang Qian said softly.
"They will not let them get away with this!" I clenched my fists tightly, my eyes blazing with fury.
My older brother walked in from outside, his expression grave. "I have found the route map from when you were sent abroad. They took you to a remote seaside town, and then..."
"And then what?" I asked anxiously, my heart racing as if it would leap out of my chest.
"Then... then you were put on a boat and disappeared into the vast ocean..." My brother paused for a moment before speaking heavily.
"Disappeared into the vast ocean? They... they took me... they took me..." My voice trembled, words failing me as blurry images of that seaside town flooded my mind—darkness, endless fear, and pervasive despair...
"What happened after you were sent abroad back then?" Gu Shisheng held me tightly, his tone gentle yet firm, trying to comfort my fear.
"I... I..." I struggled to recall, but the memories grew increasingly hazy, leaving only the biting sea wind, the cold seawater, and the endless darkness...
"Maybe we should go to that seaside town and see if we can find some clues," Wang Qian suggested.
"Okay, let's go now!" I nodded firmly, my fear and anger gradually replaced by a strong desire to survive.
We hurried to the seaside town from back then, hoping to uncover traces of the truth. However, when we arrived at the town, we found it had become desolate, with only a few dilapidated houses and some withered trees around, as if forgotten by time.
"It's too desolate here; how could anyone live here?" Wang Qian frowned.
"Perhaps what happened back then is something they deliberately concealed," my older brother said solemnly, a sharp glint in his eyes.
"We must find all relevant information from that time and uncover the truth!" I declared resolutely, determination filling my gaze.
We began searching everywhere for clues, but the town had become so desolate that aside from a few crumbling ruins, we found nothing.
Just as we were about to leave, an elderly woman approached unsteadily from a distance, holding a worn wooden box as if she were looking for something.
"Excuse me, do you know what this place was like before?" I asked her as I stepped forward.
"This place used to be bustling and lively, but then..." The old woman paused, seemingly reluctant to recall the past.
"What happened then?" I pressed on, filled with hope.
