The boy, with his skin a sickly yellow and veins bulging, breathed steadily, the arteries beneath his neck pulsing in rhythm. At that moment, he was slowly waking up. First, his arm trembled slightly, but the movement was minimal. He wanted to curl his legs, but bound by ropes, he couldn't complete the action.
The boy began to open his eyes. When he realized he was tied to the bed, he started to struggle and howl—a wolf-like "woo-woo" sound. His resistance grew stronger, causing the entire hospital bed to rattle violently.
Outside the Glass Room, Sun Puyi, who had been dozing at the table, was finally startled awake. Excited yet a bit fearful, he made his way toward the Glass Room. At that moment, Tao Gongjin was already standing outside.
The boy's yellowed skin glistened with beads of sweat. Clenching his fists, he strained against the ropes binding him. One by one, the fibers of the ropes snapped. Just as Sun Puyi arrived outside the Glass Room, the ropes finally broke completely. The boy leaped off the bed and pushed it aside before swinging his fists toward Tao Gongjin and Sun Puyi outside the Glass Room.
With a "bang," his fist struck the tempered glass, which remained unyielding.
The boy continued to slam against the glass wall, his face contorted in rage, resembling a monster.
Tao Gongjin pressed a red button beside the glass door, and a cloud of white smoke spread inside the Glass Room. The boy with yellowed skin gradually lost strength and fainted.
Sun Puyi was clearly excited by what had just happened. He said to Tao Gongjin, "Chairman, this is incredible; this is the first living specimen!"
Tao Gongjin expressed satisfaction: "Indeed! We were fortunate; we succeeded just as our supplies were running low. Tomorrow, you and your assistant should study this child to see what condition he is in."
Sun Puyi replied eagerly, "Understood!"

In the nightclub, a resident performer swayed her voluptuous figure while singing "When Will You Return?" from the famous film "Island Hall."
On the dance floor of the nightclub, Tao Ziwen and Cheng Yuwan danced among many couples. Their dancing skills had significantly improved. They gazed into each other's eyes with affection, appearing very much like a couple in love.
After coming out of the nightclub, Tao Ziwen tightly embraced Cheng Yuwan.
Cheng Yuwan asked Tao Ziwen, "Are you still going to the café tomorrow?"
Tao Ziwen replied, "Not just tomorrow; as long as I have free time, I will go to the café every day!"
Their faces slowly came closer together.
They passionately kissed, and it took a long time before they reluctantly separated.
Tao Ziwen hailed a taxi and took Cheng Yuwan back to her home, watching her walk into the building.
Cheng Yuwan hummed the lyrics of "When Will You Return" while practicing her dance steps alone until she reached her front door, took out her key, and unlocked it.
As she pushed open the door, Cheng Shuhua was standing right in front of it.
Cheng Yuwan knelt on the ground, facing the wall in reflection.
Cheng Shuhua questioned her, "Do you realize your mistake?"
Cheng Yuwan stubbornly replied, "I did nothing wrong! Mom, I’ve grown up; I can tell who is good and who is bad!"
Cheng Shuhua angrily scolded her, "How long have you been dating him? Do you know if he is a good person or a bad person? Have you forgotten why we came to Shanghai? Have you forgotten why you had to change your name?"
Cheng Yuwan held back her tears and said, "I don’t want to think about all that! I just want to be a normal girl and live a normal life! Mom, is that wrong?"
The song "When Will You Return" still lingered in Cheng Yuwan's ears.
Cheng Shuhua was stunned by her daughter's words. She paused for a moment, then turned and walked into the inner room with a look of disappointment.
Cheng Yuwan bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. She wiped her tears with her sleeve, stood up, and walked into her mother's room.
Cheng Shuhua sat by the bed, looking as if she had aged significantly under the dim light. Cheng Yuwan knelt before her mother and cried out, "Mom, I was wrong! I know our situation in Shanghai is very dangerous, and I shouldn't have easily trusted a stranger! Mom, I will never see him again!"
Cheng Shuhua shook her head. "You are not at fault; I am the one who is wrong. During these seven years in the United Kingdom, I have been strict with you both, enforcing strict discipline. I never considered that you are my daughters, just ordinary girls!"
Cheng Yuwan leaned into Cheng Shuhua's embrace as she gently stroked her daughter's hair.
Cheng Yuyao spent that night at Newport Orphanage.
The next morning, Cheng Yuyao was awakened by the noise of children downstairs. Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she sat up in bed just as the glaring sunlight streamed through the window onto her face.
As Cheng Yuyao walked down the stairs, Guo Zhiqian and Bond were serving breakfast to the children. The breakfast was very simple: a bowl of vegetable porridge and an egg, but the children were eating it with great enthusiasm.
Cheng Yuyao approached Guo Zhiqian and Bond and said to them, "The children are growing; how can they eat this for breakfast?"
Guo Zhiqian replied, "I grew up eating this too. The vegetables were gathered by the children nearby, and the eggs were bought with money they earned from their crafts."
Cheng Yuyao listened in silence. As more children lined up for breakfast, she grabbed two eggs and handed them to one child. "Here, eat more!"
The child hurriedly returned one of the eggs and said in a tender voice, "Big sister, these eggs are enough for one person each. If I take more, someone else won't get any!"
Cheng Yuyao gently stroked the child's head, looking at him with satisfaction.
Suddenly, Cheng Yuyao had a good idea.
"Kids, at noon, big sister will buy groceries and treat you to a feast, okay?"
The children responded in unison, "Okay!"
Cheng Yuyao smiled knowingly. Guo Zhiqian looked at Cheng Yuyao and also smiled knowingly.

Accompanied by a dull creaking sound, Guo Zhuanghuai appeared at the door of the laboratory. He glanced inside, walked in, and closed the door. He made his way deeper into the laboratory, passing by many thugs and assistants standing in the area. He walked all the way to the outside of the Glass Room, next to Tao Gongjin.
Inside the Glass Room, Pharmacist Sun Pu and three assistants were preparing to extract spinal fluid from a boy with withered yellow skin. The three assistants were holding the boy down tightly to prevent him from struggling if he woke up.
"Chairman, this..." Guo Zhuanghuai was somewhat surprised by such a scene.
Tao Gongjin replied, "After researching for so long, this is the only living specimen!"
"Is it successful?"
"Successful? We're still far from that!"
Guo Zhuanghuai stopped asking questions and patiently observed inside.
The long needle pierced the boy's back, causing him to twitch reflexively. As the needle went deeper, his breathing became increasingly rapid. Suddenly, the boy opened his eyes and began to struggle.
"Administering anesthesia is ineffective," Sun Puyi commanded his assistants. "Quick, hold him down!"
Three assistants pressed down on the boy curled up on the hospital bed. The needle was embedded in his spine, and the boy's veins bulged. With a painful howl, he broke free from the three assistants, knocking them to the ground, and pushed Sun Puyi aside.
The boy transformed into a monstrous figure, awkwardly grasping the syringe stuck in his back and yanking it out.
As Sun Puyi scrambled to his feet, he shouted, "Don't let him escape! Quickly, catch him!"
The three assistants in the Glass Room lunged at the boy, but he twisted his body and shook them off. At the same time, he jabbed the syringe into one assistant's neck. The boy chased after the three assistants, attacking them relentlessly while they had no chance to fight back and could only scatter around the room. Sun Puyi hurriedly pulled out a key and opened the door to escape from the Glass Room.
With the door wide open, the three assistants and the boy followed suit. At that moment, Tao Gongjin and Guo Zhuanghuai had already hidden to the side outside the glass door.
The boy resembled a frenzied monster, howling as he tossed aside each assistant and thug that lunged at him.
Thugs charged at him from different directions, managing to bring him down and pin him to the ground.
Sun Puyi grabbed a syringe from the lab table and randomly drew some anesthetic before rushing toward the boy. As the syringe drew closer, the boy became even more agitated. He struggled to turn over while the thugs barely managed to hold him down.
As Sun Puyi crouched beside him, raising the syringe to inject it, the boy suddenly flipped over and bit down hard on Sun Puyi's arm. Sun Puyi cried out in pain as he tried to pry open the boy's mouth with his other hand. Two thugs released their hold on the boy to help Sun Puyi pry his mouth open, giving the boy an opportunity to break free. One of his arms was freed; he grabbed a thug by the shoulder and hurled him toward the other thugs pressing down on him, causing them to scatter. The boy suddenly jumped up and sprinted toward the door.
Tao Gongjin pointed at the boy and shouted, "Catch him! Don't let him get away!"
Everyone in the laboratory, including Guo Zhuanghuai, chased after the boy.
The boy threw himself against the door of the Laboratory with all his might, causing the iron bolt to deform from the impact. He crashed into the door again, and cracks appeared at the weld points of the bolt. Just as those Thugs and their assistants were about to pounce on him, the boy gathered all his strength and slammed into the door once more. The bolt came loose, and the door swung open, sending him tumbling out. Outside was a corridor in the building, and upon seeing the pale-skinned boy suddenly emerge, people in the corridor panicked and scattered.
Tao Gongjin shouted in a hurry, "We must not let him get to the street! Bring him back!"
The boy, who had just stumbled out of the Laboratory, had several wounds scraped by the iron door, blood pouring from them. He got up from the ground. The corridor floor was covered with smooth ceramic tiles; when he first stood up, he lost his balance and fell again. Then he got up once more and quickly ran to one side. Shortly after, Guo Zhuanghuai rushed out of the Laboratory with the other Thugs. The blood trail left by the boy revealed his direction.
"This way!"
Guo Zhuanghuai led the Thugs in pursuit of the boy.
The Pale Yellow-Skinned Boy ran for his life, darting wherever he could. Passersby in the corridor and stairwell collided with him, screaming as they fled in all directions. The boy dashed down the stairs toward the lower floors. This was the fifth floor.
Guo Zhuanghuai pointed at the boy below as he reached the stairs, saying, "He's down there! Go after him!"
Everyone rushed downstairs.
When the boy reached the first floor, there were no more stairs. He burst into a corridor on that level. Passersby saw the suddenly emerging Pale Yellow-Skinned Boy and screamed as they tried to avoid him. Soon after, Guo Zhuanghuai and his group poured out from the staircase.
Ahead was the end of the corridor; upon reaching it, the boy realized there was nowhere left to escape. Terrified, he turned around to see Guo Zhuanghuai and his group approaching him leisurely but breathlessly.
Guo Zhuanghuai was also panting heavily. He blocked the boy's path and said, "Run again! Let's see where you think you can go!"
Just as Guo Zhuanghuai and his group closed in on him, the boy suddenly charged at them. They grabbed hold of his arms and clothes, lifting him up. His clothing tore into shreds as he struggled and screamed. Ultimately, he managed to break free from their grasp and jumped to their other side to run forward.
Guo Zhuanghuai shouted angrily, "Chase! Chase!"
The crowd turned and chased after him.
The boy rushed from the corridor into the hall, causing people inside to scream and dodge out of the way.
He headed straight for the building's entrance. Guo Zhuanghuai and others shouted from behind, "Stop him!" The security guard at the entrance stood nervously in the middle of the doorway with a baton.
Suddenly, the boy changed direction and crashed into the floor-to-ceiling window beside the entrance.
He shattered the glass and fell directly into the flowerbed outside. Covered in shards of glass, he hurriedly got up, jumped out of the flowerbed, and knocked over two bicycles as he ran down the street.
A passerby on the street was stunned and frozen by this sudden turn of events.
