Following A Qi, Lufan arrived outside a Steamed Bun Shop. He was holding two jars of wine, which he had casually bought from a restaurant along the way. He usually didn't drink and had no knowledge about it, so he just picked two jars at random.
He also had some snacks to go with the wine, which A Qi had strongly encouraged him to buy. However, he hadn't brought much money when he came out; otherwise, he could have purchased a few dishes of Primordial Food.
Lufan didn't expect someone as capable as A Qi to be working in a Steamed Bun Shop; that was quite surprising.
"A Qi, you're back!"
Before he even entered the shop, four kids suddenly ran out, two of whom were little girls, surrounding A Qi and startling Lufan.
These kids were the same vagrants from last time. Now they were all dressed neatly, their faces much rosier than before, looking far less frail.
It was A Qi's suggestion to let them stay. According to him, they had shared hardships together and could be considered comrades. The old man was kind-hearted and agreed after some thought.
"Yes, I'm back! Don't just play around; we have guests today. This is my new friend. Please take care of him while I put these things down," A Qi said cheerfully.
"Heh, you're back?" At that moment, the old man also came out from inside.
"Yes, and I have a friend with me," A Qi replied as he went in to set down the flour.
"Then you go greet your friend first. There are no customers in the shop right now; I can manage."
As soon as the four kids heard that Lufan was A Qi's friend, they immediately showed great enthusiasm. One went to wipe the tables, another arranged the stools, and two dragged Lufan into the shop from outside. They were very curious about A Qi's friend.
Lufan had never experienced such a scene before and felt somewhat uncomfortable at first, especially when sitting down and facing the curious gazes of the four children; it made him feel a bit shy.
Fortunately, A Qi came out and relieved his awkwardness.
Since he mentioned drinking wine, Lufan laid out what he had in his hands one by one. This immediately attracted the attention of several kids, especially the snacks; their allure was simply irresistible!
Well, seeing this, Lufan realized that these treats probably wouldn't make it to his mouth.
With a command from Lufan, he allowed the group to take their food to the table next door. The Brats cheered upon receiving A Qi's approval, and their fondness for Lufan skyrocketed.
Seeing the Brats carefully picking up their food and savoring it slowly, reluctant to finish it all at once, Lufan smiled slightly and opened a jar of wine, pouring some for himself and A Qi.
A Qi, on the other hand, brought out a few steamed buns and slapped them onto the table.
"Come on, how can we drink without some snacks? Try these buns; I made them myself, they're delicious!"
Seeing A Qi's shameless demeanor, Lufan felt like slapping the buns on his head. Who drinks wine with buns? He seriously suspected that this guy had been urging him to buy food just for these Brats.
But that was a minor issue; he wasn't too picky about food anyway. Lufan took a sip of wine, smacked his lips, and thought it was just okay. He didn't particularly like drinking, and this was his first time trying it in this world.
A Qi's performance surprised him. The guy lifted his bowl and gulped down a mouthful with such vigor that it was clear he had been at this for years—perhaps he was even a little drunkard.
However, before Lufan could finish his thoughts, what happened next left him dumbfounded. After taking a big swig of wine, A Qi's face immediately scrunched up as if he had just tasted vinegar instead of alcohol. Lufan instinctively braced himself in case A Qi spat it all over him.
After struggling to swallow the wine, A Qi managed to utter a sentence.
"This is wine? It's really terrible!"
Lufan was taken aback. "You've never had wine before?"
"Yeah, this is my first time!"
"Then why did you say you wanted to treat me to drinks? And you gulped it down so recklessly!"
"Isn't that how it's described in stories? Those heroes always drink heartily and eat meat generously. How could someone as wise and powerful as me, A Qi, be any worse than them?" A Qi said matter-of-factly.
Wise and powerful my foot!
Lufan realized that this guy was definitely a joker—one of those deluxe versions. To put it in Earth terms, he was just a typical case of "chuunibyou"!
However, these were just side notes. What the two of them discussed next was what they truly valued, especially regarding the earlier confrontation, as both had many questions that needed answers.
"Yan Fan, how did you do it? I thought that after mastering 'Thousand Illusions,' I would never be predicted by anyone below a martial arts master. You are the first," A Qi was the first to voice his doubts.
Yan Fan was a pseudonym used by Lufan; his real name was too well-known in Qingyang City, so he borrowed Fatty's surname for convenience.
Lufan did not immediately answer A Qi's question but instead asked in return, "Is 'Thousand Illusions' the martial arts technique you just used?"
"That's right. It's a special secret technique from my sect designed to conceal one's intent when striking, combined with other secret techniques to achieve a one-hit kill effect."
A Qi then explained the principle behind it, though he only touched on the theory without revealing specific cultivation methods. Even this brief explanation opened Lufan's eyes; indeed, there were countless talented individuals in the world capable of creating such ingenious secret techniques.
Since A Qi was so generous with his knowledge, Lufan felt no need to hold back and directly shared his understanding of Senses Unified.
To his surprise, upon hearing his method, A Qi's body shook violently, and he accidentally cracked the bowl in his hand!
"Subtlety!" he exclaimed in astonishment.
Lufan nodded in acknowledgment; from Uncle Fu, he knew that people in this world referred to that level as Subtlety as well.
Seeing Lufan's confirmation, A Qi was even more shocked: "Looking at your aura, you're only at the Third Rank Realm now. So, you've successfully undergone blood transformation and achieved True Blood?"
Unlike Lufan, who had taken a wild path, A Qi possessed a complete inheritance from a sect. He could deduce many things just from Lufan's few words.
Before Lufan could respond, A Qi concluded for himself: "It must be true! I never expected someone could achieve Subtlety at the early stage of being a Martial Cultivator. You're really something else!"
A Qi was talking to himself so much that Lufan didn't know how to respond and could only take a sip of wine from his bowl to express his frustration.
A Qi felt even more troubled; Subtlety was a realm he had yet to comprehend. The fact that someone of a lower level than him had grasped it meant he had lost in terms of talent competition. This left him, who prided himself on his unparalleled gifts, feeling quite vexed!
However, just as Lufan thought, A Qi was inherently a jokester. Such minor setbacks could never bring him down. Soon enough, he adjusted his mood and began to inquire about Subtlety from Lufan.
The capable come first; we won't compare ourselves to freaks! This is what A Qi is currently thinking.
Although everyone's breakthrough to the realm of subtlety is different, and Lufan's approach may not necessarily apply to A Qi, he still shared some of his insights, as they are valuable as a reference.
Sure enough, after Lufan explained how he first achieved mastery over himself, A Qi listened with great interest, repeatedly exclaiming that he never expected it could be done this way.
Then he also shared the records from his sect regarding subtlety, which inspired Lufan quite a bit.
After a long time, the two finally stopped discussing the topic. They both felt they had gained immensely from this exchange. Unlike consulting someone with a much higher realm, discussions among peers often resonate more deeply and spark inspiration.
This outing has truly been rewarding; not only did he gain insights into Senses Unified, but he also met a remarkably talented Martial Cultivator. Uncle Fu was right; getting out and seeing the world indeed brings different rewards.
Feeling elated, Lufan took another sip of wine and asked A Qi, "A Qi, what brings you to Qingyang City this time? Is there anything I can help with?"
"I actually came to Qingyang City for something," A Qi replied, taking a sip of wine himself; he was starting to get used to the taste.
"What is it?"
"I want to kill someone!"
"Who?" Lufan asked curiously.
"You!"
