"What have you been doing these past few days?" A Qi couldn't hold back any longer and asked Lufan.
There was no way around it; Lufan's behavior over the past few days had been too strange. Ever since Huang Lao started his Alchemy, he hadn't engaged in any cultivation activities. Every day, aside from checking on Huang Lao's Alchemy, he would either wander around or bask in the sun. However, no matter where he went, Lufan always carried a book, occasionally flipping through a few pages.
This wasn't particularly unusual, but it was baffling coming from Lufan. After all, a major battle was imminent, and instead of seizing the time to cultivate and improve his strength, he spent his days so leisurely. What kind of preparation for battle was this?
Initially, everyone didn't want to disturb Lufan, allowing him to focus on adjusting his state. However, his recent actions were too perplexing, so under great confusion, Duanmu Xue and the others urged A Qi to inquire about Lufan.
"Just as you see, I'm reading," Lufan said, raising the book in his hand.
"I mean, isn't this a bad time for reading? While it's important to relax before a breakthrough, you're being way too lazy. You haven't cultivated at all these past few days. In martial arts, if you don't progress, you regress. Aren't you worried that not practicing your Fist Technique even once in days will lead to a decline in your strength?"
A Qi spoke the truth. In martial arts cultivation, one must always maintain a spirit of diligence and progress. It's not enough to think that once you've broken through a certain realm, everything is fine. If one becomes negligent and doesn't engage in physical activity for an extended period, it could lead to physical atrophy and a decline in strength; in severe cases, it could even result in a regression of one's realm.
Especially for the first six ranks of Martial Arts Nine Ranks, which emphasize the refinement and training of the body. Lufan's lazy demeanor over several days might not cause an actual decline in his strength, but at such a critical time, this kind of lax attitude could affect his fighting spirit—this was quite a serious issue.
"The situation isn't as you see it; actually, I've been cultivating these past few days; you just can't see it," Lufan replied lazily.
"What do you mean?" A Qi and the others asked curiously. After all, this guy hadn't even practiced Primordial Energy these past few days; how could he possibly be cultivating?
"Well, it's this," Lufan said as he held up the book and handed it over. "Reading is cultivating."
A Qi took the book while Duanmu Xue and the others crowded around. They found Lufan's statement strange and were curious about what was written inside—could it be some special Martial Arts Manuals?
Once they all gathered around and looked at the cover, they realized there were no words on it at all. A Qi opened the book only to find that it was handwritten. After they read the contents inside, their expressions darkened involuntarily.
"Are you kidding me? If you were holding a Martial Arts Manual, I could understand, but what you have here is clearly some nonsense from those bald monks of Buddhism from the Western Continent. How can you say this is for cultivation?" A Qi looked at Lufan with disdain, as if to say he was being treated like a fool.
"Huh? Buddhism has such scriptures too?" Lufan's body trembled as he quickly asked.
The book in A Qi's hand was actually a copy that Lufan had transcribed himself, containing various scattered Buddhist scriptures and Daozang quotations, with the foremost being the Diamond Sutra.
As for the source of these texts, they were all organized from the manuals in his mind.
Long ago, Lufan discovered that the manuals in his mind not only contained specific cultivation methods but also included some overarching scriptures at the beginning. The language of Daoist martial arts was found in the Daozang, while Buddhist martial arts primarily consisted of various Buddhist scriptures.
For example, the Great Strength Diamond Palm, Mighty Vajra Fist, and Vajra Finger all began with a passage from the Diamond Sutra, while Beiming was derived from Zhuangzi's "Free and Easy Wandering."
In the past, when he saw these overarching scriptures, he felt completely lost and unable to understand them, often skipping directly to the specific techniques of Mind Technique. However, now that his martial arts realm had deepened, he gradually began to grasp the profound principles of martial arts and realized that these overarching scriptures were the most precious aspects of all martial arts manuals.
These scriptures were vast and profound, containing the ultimate truths of heaven and earth. Often just a few words could encapsulate the essence of a martial art, making them the best language for martial arts.
For instance, just the true meaning of the word "Vajra" in the Diamond Sutra was enough to extend into martial arts masterpieces like Great Strength Diamond Palm, Mighty Vajra Fist, and Vajra Finger—truly unfathomable.
Upon realizing the treasures within the manuals, Lufan immediately began to transcribe them carefully for study and reflection. Unfortunately, most of the overarching texts were fragmented; the most complete ones were the Diamond Sutra and Free and Easy Wandering. This left him somewhat regretful—had he known earlier during his time on Earth, he would have read more Buddhist scriptures from Daozang.
All along, he thought these texts were unique to him and belonged solely to Earth. He knew that Buddhism existed in this world but assumed it was different from what he understood. He never expected to hear A Qi mention having seen these Buddhist scriptures; the information alone was shocking enough.
"Of course," A Qi said. "Those bald monks spread their teachings far and wide, disseminating Buddhist scriptures and recruiting disciples and followers. They claimed there was great power within those scriptures. Later on, various sects in the Eastern Continent confirmed that those were just deceptive nonsense, so gradually no one paid attention anymore.
Eventually, major sects even ordered the destruction of those scriptures, including this Diamond Sutra."
The Eastern Continent is where Lufan and his companions currently resided.
"Is there really such a thing?" Lufan said softly. A Qi's words revealed too much information, causing him to have countless associations in an instant. However, the guesses were so shocking that he did not voice them.
"Of course, this isn't exactly a secret. Speaking of which, I've always found it strange that many of the Martial Arts Techniques you use have a style reminiscent of Buddhism. Are you really related to Buddhism?" A Qi suddenly recalled a question.
"I've never seen the Martial Arts Techniques of Buddhism, so I can't answer you. But I can assure you that I've always lived in Qingyang City and have no connection to Buddhism whatsoever."
"Then you should be careful. Those people from Buddhism love to claim that every genius has a connection with Buddha, and they'll do everything they can to draw you into Buddhism. With your Martial Arts Techniques, if you ever encounter someone from Buddhism in the future, you might just get entangled with them," A Qi said somewhat gleefully.
Lufan felt somewhat speechless; the phrase about having a connection with Buddha sounded all too familiar. Is every sect of Buddhism in every world like this?
Although there was still some confusion regarding Lufan's actions, after he explained several times, everyone understood that he was indeed undergoing special training and no longer disturbed him as they left one by one.
However, after the others departed, Lufan's expression grew serious. He lightly tapped his head with a book, lost in thought.
Days passed by, and Lufan continued to read books and bask in the sun. The Loose Cultivators of Qingyang City confirmed that Lufan would not leave, and after a brief uproar, they strangely calmed down. No one discussed it loudly anymore; it seemed they were all waiting for something.
Many Loose Cultivators even stopped going to the Ten Thousand Great Mountains, choosing instead to stay in Qingyang City and wait for the storm to arrive.
The entire Qingyang City spent its days in this peculiar atmosphere. One afternoon, laughter suddenly erupted from the alchemy room, followed by Huang Lao and Fatty joyfully walking out.
