"However, you need to be mentally prepared for one thing." After promoting his own secret technique, Lin Feng changed the subject and continued speaking.
"What is it?" Startled again, Wolf King asked nervously.
"It's nothing, just that their lives might not last..." At this point, Lin Feng paused again.
"How old are they?" Wolf King still wore a dazed expression and asked mechanically.
"I've done my best; they probably won't live past a hundred," Lin Feng pretended to say helplessly.
"Damn... Feng Shao, you can't play with people like this. My old bones are about to fall apart from your antics." After hearing Lin Feng's words, Wolf King realized that Lin Feng was joking again and couldn't help but curse.
Indeed, anyone would be unable to hold back under such circumstances.
In fact, Lin Feng felt a twinge of jealousy, envious that Steel and his companion had Wolf King as a "father" caring for them. Out of a mischievous impulse, he kept making jokes. Seeing Wolf King's anxious expression made Lin Feng think of himself and wonder if his own father would care for him in the same way if he encountered danger.
But it was pointless to think about it. Long ago, Lin Feng had already considered himself as someone without a father. From birth until now, he had never even seen his father once; it was impossible to leave even a shadow in his heart.
This was indeed quite sad. Now that Lin Feng had been reborn and gained strength, he would also have some influence moving forward. Finding someone wouldn't be as aimless as before, but Lin Feng really didn't want to seek him out.
What would happen if he found him? For Lin Feng, the term "dad" was something he only learned the surface meaning of from textbooks; in reality, he had never experienced it.
It was better to fantasize occasionally like this than to be disappointed.
To be honest, Lin Feng had dreamed about it before—dreams from his childhood—dreaming that one day his father and Grandpa would come in a spaceship to find him and take him away. However, in the dream, he punched his father and said he didn't recognize him.
Dreams can sometimes be an expression of the subconscious. Perhaps Lin Feng harbored some resentment towards his father deep down, but because he had never met him, this resentment wasn't profound. More accurately, it should be described as a feeling of aversion rather than hatred; it couldn't really be called hatred.
But that was under the circumstance where Lin Feng had not seen him. If he did see him, would he cover his face and cry while embracing him? Or would he beat him up as if in a dream? Lin Feng could not predict either outcome; he would have to wait until they met.
Moreover, it was possible that Lin Feng might never know who his father was, let alone meet him before he grew old and died.
It was also possible that his father didn't even know he had a son. It could be that simple; after a brief encounter, Lin Feng could come into existence.
"Feng Shao, the blankets and coats have arrived," Li Zhong said as he and Lao Jiang brought the blankets to Lin Feng.
"Oh, wrap them up for Steel. I've already informed Wolf King about what needs to be done; you just need to take care of them," Lin Feng replied, finally snapping out of his thoughts thanks to Li Zhong's words.
After saying that, Lin Feng stood up, preparing to leave, but his expression was somewhat grim.
The three of them worked together to wrap Steel in blankets. Wolf King and Lao Jiang each carried one, and it seemed that Steel would rest here with Li Zhong.
Although Steel was large, Wolf King and Lao Jiang were also trained fighters, so carrying one each was not a problem. They nodded at Lin Feng and went ahead into Li Zhong's room to arrange for Steel to lie down.
"Li Zhong, keep an eye on Steel. I'm leaving," Lin Feng casually instructed Li Zhong before making his exit.
Thinking about his father whom he had never met always put Lin Feng in a bad mood. Now that he was older it was better, but when he was younger, he remembered feeling miserable for an entire day whenever he thought of his father, often leading to nightmares at night.
During those times, Foster Mother would hold Lin Feng while they slept, and his little sister would sweetly comfort him. Only then could he avoid having nightmares that night.
Recalling the love from his Foster Mother and the constant affection from his little sister made Lin Feng consider going home during the school break to spend some time with them. He wanted to buy them delicious food, and if they were willing, he would bring them here to enjoy a better life.
He remembered how in the past when he had no money, returning home meant buying small trinkets for his sister that were common in the city but rare in the countryside. Even though they were just small items and not worth much, his sister would always be delighted and insist on hearing stories about things she had never heard before from the city.
Thinking of Foster Mother and his sister lightened Lin Feng's heavy heart a little.
"By the way, Feng Shao, you asked me to help you find a rental place. I've already spread the word and asked the agent to look for something according to your requirements. I'll contact you once it's confirmed," Li Zhong said, noticing Lin Feng's unusual demeanor but not wanting to pry, so he made small talk instead.
"Oh, that's not urgent," Lin Feng replied calmly.
After walking a few steps, he realized Li Zhong's intention in doing this. Normally, Li Zhong would handle things and then inform Lin Feng, but this time he started updating Lin Feng halfway through the process. Wasn't this just an obvious attempt to make conversation?
Chuckling, he walked over and put his arm around Li Zhong's shoulder, saying, "Come on, let's go inside and check on those two guys."
"Feng Shao, if there's anything bothering you, don't hold it in. Although I may not have much ability, at least I can be someone who listens to you. Don't worry; if you ask me not to say anything, I won't tell anyone," Li Zhong continued to persuade him, sensing that Lin Feng didn't mind his concern.
"It's nothing much. I just saw how Wolf King cares about the Steel brothers and it reminded me of my dad, whom I've never met since childhood," Lin Feng said briefly. He didn't want to elaborate but acknowledged that Li Zhong genuinely cared about him.
This is what brotherhood is all about.
Li Zhong was pleased that Lin Feng was willing to share his personal matters with him. He knew that words were unnecessary sometimes between men; he simply kept his arm around Lin Feng's shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
At this moment, silence spoke louder than words.
"Let's go in and take a look," Lin Feng said again, patting Li Zhong's shoulder as his expression returned to normal.
The recovery status of Steel was good; Lin Feng estimated that in another day or so they would wake up, so they just took a quick look before leaving.
Li Zhong let Lin Feng drive his car away since the place was too remote. He would have to wait until he bought his own car to return it.
That last BMW was nice, but unfortunately, Amin crashed it. Thinking of this reminded Lin Feng of He Ting and Xiao Na still in the hospital. He planned to visit them in the afternoon; being in the hospital felt quite oppressive, but luckily they were two girls who could chat with each other to pass the time.
It was around two in the afternoon as he drove along the quiet dirt road again, feeling the remoteness of the area. He considered whether he should rent this place after Li Zhong moved out as a meeting spot for himself and the Wolf Gang higher-ups; it was indeed secluded enough and quite suitable.
Thinking about it, Lin Feng realized that he hadn't given the ten million to Wolf King and the others yet. He had just been focusing on getting "Steel" to take the "Forbidden Spring," and he completely forgot about this matter.
With that in mind, Lin Feng immediately turned the car around and headed back to Li Zhong's place. After all, he had just left, so it wasn't far from there.
When he arrived, Lin Feng took out the ten million that he had packed in a suitcase from the magic ring. Since he had just come from there, he didn't bother to call Li Zhong first as per the usual practice.
However, when Lin Feng pushed the door open, he found a machete already pressed against his neck. It turned out that Wolf King had been lying in wait behind the door.
It made sense; with "Steel," the two strongest fighters, unconscious and unable to be disturbed, it was the perfect opportunity for someone to take advantage of them. They had to be on guard.
In fact, Lin Feng had already sensed their ambush. No matter how bold he was, Lin Feng had developed the habit of using his Mental Power to scout an area before going there.
But since they were so alert, Lin Feng decided to play along with their little drill. It was a good way to practice procedures that would benefit their defense work.
After all, the machete and handgun in their hands posed no threat to him; even if a gun went off accidentally, it wouldn't matter.
Only someone like Lin Feng could handle such situations; others truly couldn't manage it.
Looking up, he saw Lao Jiang with a look of astonishment, having forgotten to lower his gun aimed at Lin Feng. He wasn't mistaken; these two had set up an ambush for him—one with a knife and one with a gun.
However, this ambush wasn't originally aimed at him.
"Feng Shao, why are you here again?" Li Zhong was the first to speak, putting away his throwing knife as he asked.
"Hehe... I'm here to deliver money," Lin Feng said with a smile as he tossed the suitcase onto the ground. "You guys are quite vigilant; not bad."
"Feng Shao, I was just worried..." Wolf King had already put away his machete and explained with a wry smile.
"I understand, you all are like this, and I'm quite satisfied. If you let me in, then I would be dissatisfied!" Lin Feng waved his hand, stopping Wolf King from explaining.
"I'm just curious. I forgot about sending money, but how come you guys who are receiving the money forgot too?" Lin Feng continued to look at Wolf King, who was also eyeing the leather suitcase that Lao Jiang was carefully holding.
No one responded to him, and Lin Feng felt disappointed that his charm didn't seem to be as high as a stack of hundred-dollar bills.
It wasn't really their fault; although Wolf King led a gang, he had never truly seen a complete ten million in cash, let alone Lao Jiang and Li Zhong.
Men's love for money seemed to be a natural thing.
"Hey, can't you aim a little higher? It's just ten million!" Lin Feng said, standing there without feeling any pain. He still had over eighty million in cash in his magic ring, so he naturally dared to talk big.
To be honest, when he first won twenty million in cash from Qian Gang's Casino, he was still sleeping in Dong Jie's shop that night. He clearly remembered sneaking out of bed to take a look at the twenty million several times.
Mainly because he couldn't sleep. This was the excuse Lin Feng gave himself; he refused to admit that he had never seen such wealth before and was losing sleep over it.
Seeing their desperate expressions, Lin Feng gave them some instructions and then left.
Although the three of them seemed a bit obsessed with money on the surface, Lin Feng believed they would use this money wisely and not let him down.
...
