"Don't worry, I will give it my all." Liu Yan nodded, seeing that everyone had their hopes pinned on her.
Although she said this, Lin Feng could still see the pressure she was under from her furrowed brows. Indeed, for a girl like Xiaoyan who had just graduated from university, this was a significant challenge; it wasn't about strength but rather experience.
"Yeah, Xiaoyan, don't feel too pressured. We are here for you," Chen Li naturally noticed Liu Yan's stress as well. She felt it was unfair to let Xiaoyan bear such a heavy burden, but there was nothing she could do about it. If anyone were to blame, it would be Minister Zhu Jie, who had inappropriate expectations of her.
However, Chen Li couldn't share this with everyone because she didn't know how they would perceive her if she did. Would they still trust her and acknowledge her as the team leader?
"Alright, everyone take your positions and let's get to work. Let's aim to put on a good show." Seeing Xiaoyan nod at her, Chen Li felt relieved; it seemed there were no immediate issues on Xiaoyan's side.
For them, although time wasn't too tight, the task itself was quite tricky, and they couldn't afford to be careless.
Lin Feng had remained silent throughout. This wasn't because he considered himself a newcomer; rather, he understood that this might be an opportunity for him to assess the team's capabilities. If Chen Li's demonstrated abilities earned his approval, he would begin his plan to poach talent. After all, Lin Feng's purpose in applying for this white-collar job was not only to experience white-collar life but also to scout for useful talent.
Next, Lin Feng was assigned to assist Liu Yan. Of course, since he was a newcomer, his help would mostly be limited to support.
After a full day of work, Lin Feng realized that this job wasn't as easy as it seemed. In short, he found that mental labor could indeed be quite exhausting.
"Let's go, Lin Feng. Work is over." After finishing for the day, Liu Yan stretched and said to Lin Feng.
Even though Liu Yan was under pressure, throughout the day Lin Feng only saw her diligently researching various materials without any signs of complaint. Therefore, he was quite satisfied with Liu Yan's performance.
"Oh, let's go." Lin Feng nodded. In fact, he had been waiting for Liu Yan to say those words for a long time. To be honest, it was only the second day of work, but Lin Feng already felt a bit bored.
However, feeling bored at work does not mean that he dislikes his job. In fact, Lin Feng is quite satisfied with it. Working alongside the vibrant beauty Liu Yan all day is enjoyable, and even though Lin Feng doesn't have any particular thoughts about it, at least he gets to appreciate the view every day, right?
When they reached the company entrance, Liu Yan suddenly said to Lin Feng, "Lin Feng, can we take the same bus?"
"Ah? Oh, sure." Lin Feng was thinking the same thing but didn't expect Liu Yan to say it first. After a moment of surprise, he quickly agreed.
"The bus is here." Just as Lin Feng finished his response, the bus arrived, and Liu Yan exclaimed.
Then, after some effort in the crowded space, Lin Feng and Liu Yan finally managed to board the bus.
Of course, while it was described as difficult, Lin Feng's struggle was only superficial. He was quite capable, and with him around, it was easy for Liu Yan to squeeze in, and he even saved a spot for her.
The two of them made quite a pair.
There was no choice; it was rush hour after work, and everyone was hurrying home. It would be strange if there weren't many people.
"Finally on! Liu Yan, do you like taking the bus?" Lin Feng asked as he settled into the spot next to Liu Yan that she had claimed for herself.
"Hehe... Just stepping out of campus and finding this job is already great. I don't really like taking the bus, especially when it's so crowded with others. But I’m not at a point where I can avoid it yet. I'll think about that once my salary increases," Liu Yan replied honestly to Lin Feng.
"Hehe... That's true. I wonder when I'll be able to drive my own car to work," Lin Feng sighed in agreement, feeling like a newcomer who just started working.
"Hehe... Keep working hard; that day will come," Liu Yan smiled at Lin Feng and encouraged him.
"Yeah, it will come," Lin Feng nodded firmly and continued playing along.
That morning, at the station where he met Liu Yan, both Liu Yan and Lin Feng got off the bus and waved goodbye to each other.
At that moment, Lin Feng realized that the house he bought for Dong Jie was just a street away from where Liu Yan rented. In a sense, they could be considered neighbors.
Of course, being just one street apart, Lin Feng felt it should count as being neighbors.
After waving goodbye to Liu Yan, Lin Feng did not go home. He was the only one at home, and there would be no one waiting for him with a meal. So, he decided to have dinner outside.
While eating, Lin Feng regretted not accepting Liu Yan's invitation to try her cooking. On the bus, Liu Yan had told him that every evening she would buy groceries from a market on her way back to her rental place. According to her, this was not only cost-effective but also hygienic and ensured she could eat with peace of mind—truly a win-win situation.
In the end, Liu Yan had invited Lin Feng over. However, considering that he had only known her for two days, he thought she might have just been casually inviting him, so he declined.
In reality, Liu Yan's invitation was not casual at all; she genuinely hoped Lin Feng would accept. Ever since she started living alone, she had told herself not to bring strangers home, especially unfamiliar men.
However, when it came to Lin Feng, Liu Yan always felt at ease. Perhaps this stemmed from his behavior on the bus last night and this morning.
Well, there is no such thing as a pill for regret. After finishing dinner, Lin Feng took a stroll down the street.
As he walked, his phone rang.
"Hello..." Lin Feng answered the call; it was Li Zhong on the line.
"Feng Shao, are you free right now? Wolf King and Liu Fei want to invite you out for drinks. Can you make it?" Li Zhong asked on the other end of the line.
"Oh, I'm free. Where are we meeting?" Lin Feng knew that Wolf King and Liu Fei would eventually want to drink together. He was pleased to see their relationship improve since they all worked under him; after all, internal conflicts were something Lin Feng did not want to see.
"Just at that bar last time." Li Zhong was delighted to see Lin Feng agree; he also wanted to drink with Lin Feng.
"Okay, I got it. I'll be there soon." Lin Feng nodded and hung up the phone.
Since he wasn't driving, Lin Feng was too lazy to go back for his car. While other men might try to find a way to show off by driving to the bar, Lin Feng clearly had no interest in such childish behavior. He felt like he had become more carefree.
Taking a taxi to the bar, as soon as Lin Feng got out, he saw Wolf King and Liu Fei lined up at the entrance waiting for him. The sight made Lin Feng frown slightly.
He wasn't someone who enjoyed making a scene, nor was he a flashy person. Otherwise, he wouldn't be content with being a laid-back manager and a small employee. Therefore, Wolf King and the others' actions at that moment indeed left him feeling somewhat displeased.
Not walking toward the bar, Lin Feng called Li Zhong.
"Hello... Feng Shao." Li Zhong had naturally seen Lin Feng; he knew Lin Feng's character and that he disliked being ostentatious. Seeing Lin Feng get out of the car but not approach them, instead calling him, made Li Zhong realize that Lin Feng was probably a bit unhappy.
"Tell them to back off and wait for me in the private room." Lin Feng didn't say much and directly gave the order before hanging up.
Li Zhong understood that Lin Feng might really be upset. As he put down his phone, he whispered something to Wolf King and Liu Fei, then led the way into the bar, heading to the private room they had reserved earlier.
The idea of welcoming Lin Feng at the entrance wasn't his; he opposed it. However, Liu Fei insisted on coming out to greet Lin Feng to show his attitude and sincerity. Although Wolf King and the others felt it was inappropriate, they thought about how they were all on the same side and how they had just gotten acquainted with Liu Fei through Lin Feng. If they directly rejected Liu Fei's suggestion, it would be too disrespectful to him. So they had no choice but to follow along.
Now it seemed that Feng Shao was indeed angry.
Seeing that they had all returned to the private room, Lin Feng finally entered the bar.
Originally, Lin Feng just planned to come for a drink, but after this incident, he abandoned his initial plan. Some matters needed to be properly discussed with Wolf King and Liu Fei.
“Feng Shao...” Seeing Lin Feng walk in with a not-so-good expression, everyone quickly stood up and called out.
“Please sit down, except for Wolf King and Liu Fei.” Lin Feng scanned them with his eyes, then nodded slightly and said calmly.
“Understood.” Although everyone knew the situation wasn't great, since Lin Feng had spoken, they had no choice but to obey and sit down.
“What happened to you two tonight? Who told you to make such a big fuss?” Once everyone was seated, Lin Feng asked the still-standing Wolf King and Liu Fei.
Lin Feng felt quite helpless; it was supposed to be a good occasion to have a drink together and deepen their understanding of each other. It was frustrating that he had to address this issue.
“Feng Shao, this isn't Wolf King's fault. I insisted on going out to welcome you, and Wolf King just couldn't refuse me and ended up going along with my antics,” Liu Fei quickly spoke up, knowing that Lin Feng was upset about their high profile.
“What do you say, Wolf King?” However, Lin Feng still didn't express any opinion and instead turned to Wolf King, asking.
“Haha... this isn't Liu Fei's fault,” Wolf King chuckled at that moment.
“Alright, considering how supportive you are of each other, we'll let this matter slide tonight. But remember, this is a one-time exception; it won't happen again,” Lin Feng said, waving his hand as he realized his intention had been seen through by Wolf King.
