The final candidates have been determined, and the team is still divided into three levels.
The Training Ground is located at the waist of Wangyue Peak, with an area of about fifty meters that has been meticulously leveled. In the center of the Training Ground, there is a pathway paved with large blue stones, which extends downwards with steps leading to the foot of the mountain. At the end of the pathway stands a grand gate made of jade, with three glowing characters at the top: New Moon Sect.
Three imposing figures in white robes emerged from the gate. One of them nodded slightly to the team leader overseeing the selection of new recruits. The leader hurriedly approached and bowed, saying, "Xiao Hall Master, Li Tangzhu, Wang Hall Master, everyone has been brought here, and this is the list of personnel." He then handed over three prepared lists to each of them.
Li Tangzhu had a refined appearance, his clear eyes revealing no hint of emotion. He glanced at the newly arrived Senior Disciples and gently said, "Follow me." Without waiting to see if others heard him, he stepped through the stone gate.
The usually arrogant Senior Disciples felt an involuntary sense of fear after being casually scanned by Li Tangzhu. Seeing Li Tangzhu move ahead, the leader quickly arranged for his subordinates to take the Senior Disciples along with Li Tangzhu.
"I am Wang Han, the Hall Master of Flying Star Hall. Intermediate disciples will follow me from now on." Wang Hall Master was not as ostentatious as Li Tangzhu; after introducing himself, he led the intermediate disciples away.
"Alright, you useless ones," Xiao Hall Master began, causing the low-level disciples to blush. "From now on, Liuyun Hall will be your home. Don't embarrass me too much; otherwise, I'll make you feel worse than garbage."
As Xiao Hall Master spoke passionately, Triangular Eyes maintained its characteristic angle. Xu Feng roughly estimated that it resembled an equilateral triangle.
"I am the Hall Master of Liuyun Hall. My surname is Xiao; it's simpler than 'Xiao' in 'xiaoshuo' (elegance)." Xiao Hall Master showed no signs of embarrassment. "Do you know what simplicity means? Simplicity means not being simple. That's right; you are following a hall master who is anything but simple."
The leader secretly wiped his sweat while the low-level disciples stared in disbelief, wanting to laugh but afraid to do so.
Xiao Hall Master was quite satisfied with their reactions and nodded. "Follow me; you useless ones will see how I turn you into something new."
The low-level disciples followed Xiao Hall Master through the New Moon Gate, each wearing a strange expression. Xu Feng's heart raced; he couldn't tell if following such a hall master was a blessing or a curse.
The New Moon Sect is situated on Wangyue Peak, which spans ten miles in height and grandeur. The Training Ground occupies only a small section halfway up the mountain. Upon entering the mountain gate, the main path of blue stones continued to extend upwards.
However, Xiao Hall Master led his disciples down a side path. After turning several corners and walking about a mile, they arrived at Liuyun Hall where Xiao Hall Master resided. This large courtyard covered an area similar to that of a middle school in his past life.
When Xu Feng entered, there were not many people in the Trial Ground. An old man with white hair was speaking to a group of young cultivators in an open area.
Upon seeing Xiao Hall Master return, several sword-wielding disciples came forward to greet him. Xiao Hall Master exchanged a few words with them before turning and walking away alone.
Following Xiao Hall Master's instructions, the disciples assigned rooms to the new arrivals. To their surprise, they were given single rooms. After checking their accommodations, the new disciples were summoned to another location and taken to a building.
An old man was sitting at the entrance of the building. The Steward Disciple reported the identities of the low-level disciples to him. The old man nodded slightly and took out a pile of objects for the disciples to collect one by one.
"Receiving equipment?" Xu Feng guessed about seventy to eighty percent of what was happening upon seeing the scene. Soon, Xu Feng received his items: a two-cubic storage bag, a low-grade Magic Sword, a white Robe, and a pair of gray shoes.
Once everyone had collected their items, the Steward Disciple said, "Identity tokens will be distributed to you shortly. For now, return to your rooms and rest. Tomorrow morning, we will meet at Liuyun Hall's Trial Ground. From this moment on, you are disciples of New Moon Sect. Everyone should work hard in cultivation and improve your skills as soon as possible; do not let your fellow disciples look down on us from Liuyun Hall." By the end of his speech, the Steward Disciple's face turned slightly red.
Back in his room, Xu Feng immediately began to adjust his breathing and recover his energy. The recent travels had nearly exhausted him, and now that he had some time, he wished he could just sleep deeply. As for other matters, he would think about them later.
The next morning, Xu Feng changed into his new clothes and shoes. Under the urging of the Steward Disciple, he arrived early at the Trial Ground. After changing clothes, he noticed that there was a gray crescent-shaped symbol embroidered on the right chest of his robe; it blended in with the color of the robe and was not easily noticeable.
This time, Xu Feng saw Xufeng.
Xufeng had been injured during the competition and had not had time to fully recover due to all the traveling. Upon seeing Xu Feng, Xufeng instinctively moved toward him.
Before they could speak, a disciple responsible for newcomers gathered everyone together and said loudly, "Brothers, my name is White Mist; you can call me Bai Shixiong from now on. I will mainly be responsible for your training. For daily matters, you can consult Zhou Shixiong." Zhou Shixiong beside him waved at the disciples.
"In order to find a more suitable cultivation path for you all, we will now conduct a Spirit Root Test to determine your future cultivation direction." After Bai Shixiong finished speaking, a disciple set up tables and chairs and took out a Spirit Root Plate.
This Spirit Root Test was just a part of the initial training process. Almost all cultivators who made it here had undergone testing long ago and were very familiar with their Spiritual Roots; the sect was merely confirming it once again.
Everyone took turns to undergo the test. Naturally, there wouldn't be any exceptional talents below the Third Layer of Qi Refining at the age of eighteen. After a round of testing, most displayed mediocre qualities, with Three Spiritual Roots or Four Spiritual Roots.
Soon it was Xu Feng's turn. He pressed his palm against the Spirit Root Plate, and Zhou Shixiong, who was conducting the test, rubbed his eyes. Upon a closer look, he couldn't help but exclaim, "A genius! A genius! Junior brother, can you tell me how you passed the selection?" The surrounding disciples also saw Xu Feng's Spiritual Root display and couldn't help but snicker.
"What the hell, Five Spiritual Roots? This is a once-in-a-decade occurrence."
"Once in a decade? I doubt you'll find another in a hundred years."
"I've never seen such a waste."
"You're calling him waste, but he still passed the selection!"
"…"
Xu Feng was sweating profusely. Damn it, what did my Five Elements Root do to deserve this? Thinking about this Spiritual Root that was almost indistinguishable from waste, Xu Feng had nothing to retort. He couldn't exactly say, "I'm a transmigrator; this is a mutated Five Spiritual Roots; it's impressive!"
Seeing something unusual, Bai Shixiong came over and was also taken aback. He stared at Xu Feng as if he were a monster and asked, "Xu Feng, right? Which Outer Sect senior brother are you familiar with?"
"Outer Sect?" Xu Feng thought for a moment and realized he didn't know anyone. As someone who had transmigrated here, he was unfamiliar with the place; who would recognize him?
Bai Shixiong didn't press further and said, "It's fine; having a slightly inferior Spiritual Root can be made up for. As long as you work hard in your cultivation, your achievements can be limitless. There have been disciples with Five Spiritual Roots who have become great in the past." The "past" could refer to many years ago; after finishing his sentence, Bai Shixiong felt a bit uneasy himself.
The surrounding disciples saw Bai Shixiong's reaction and no longer dared to mock Xu Feng. They lined up honestly to continue their tests.
After the Spiritual Root testing was completed, Zhou Shixiong pulled out a box from under the table filled with various cultivation manuals. He then distributed the manuals to the new disciples according to the list. As expected, there were two types of manuals: one for internal cultivation methods and one for Combat Techniques.
“Zhao Qian, with Three Spiritual Roots leaning towards Water, will cultivate 'Mianjin Jue' and the Basic Swordsmanship of My Sect, as well as the Azure Dragon Thirteen Swords.”
“Sun Ni, with Three Spiritual Roots leaning towards Wood, will cultivate 'Chun Shu Jing' and the Azure Dragon Thirteen Swords.”
“Qian Dafa, with Four Spiritual Roots leaning towards Earth, will cultivate 'Boulder Fist.'”
……
“Xu Feng, with Five Spiritual Roots, balanced in Five Spiritual Roots, um, what Cultivation Method do you want to cultivate?” Zhou Shixiong's question surprised the surrounding disciples. Wow, they can choose any Cultivation Method? The treatment is quite good.
Another round of quiet laughter followed.
After going through the previous "test," Xu Feng's confidence had grown. Thinking about the two elements he was missing, he said, “Zhou Shixiong, I want to learn the Cultivation Method for Wood Element and Earth Element.”
“You can only choose one,” Zhou Shixiong thought to himself. With your aptitude and dual cultivation, if you’re not embarrassed, I certainly am.
“Then I'll go with Earth Element.” Xu Feng made his decision.
