The doorman leader of the Artifact Workshop, Tian Yuan, was once again left alone. Ever since Xu Feng left, he had been guarding the entrance to the Artifact Workshop by himself. His long hours of work were not the issue; the key problem was the significant drop in extra income.
Xu Feng waved from a distance, and Tian Yuan rushed over as if he had seen a deity. "Junior Brother Xu, you're back! Saying I didn't miss you would be a lie; saying I didn't think of you would also be a lie. I really, really missed you!"
Xu Feng pulled out a spirit stone to interrupt Tian Yuan's flattery. "I’m going to participate in the Trial of Experience."
"The Trial of Experience?" Tian Yuan immediately softened. Xu Feng had been eliminated from Liuyun Hall, and now he was going out for further training; it was likely he wouldn't return.
"Every disciple must undergo training; to grow, one must go through the baptism of blood," Xu Feng stated solemnly. "How can you improve your strength by just guarding the door? How can you establish your foundation successfully?"
Tian Yuan was taken aback and replied, "Junior Brother Xu, you don't understand. The Trial has its own rules... You'll know once you go." He was momentarily at a loss for words.
Watching Xu Feng walk into the building, his figure disappearing behind the door, Tian Yuan couldn't help but feel self-pity: "Now that he's gone, perhaps next time it will be me."
As summer flowers began to bloom, an early bee landed on a pink petal. A chilling aura spread out, and the bee buzzed softly before flying away in haste.
At the New Moon Sect's Training Ground, a formation of fifty people stood tall and straight.
The training team, composed of the Inner Three Halls and Outer Three Halls, gathered early at the Training Ground, each with a stern expression and straight posture. At the front of the formation, two rows of six elders from the New Moon Sect sat on a makeshift platform, along with a youth dressed in white who appeared as flawless as jade.
He looked flawless but was not merely a youth; three hundred years ago he had already been sculpted to perfection. Now, three hundred years later, he still floated in white robes like a jade tree without blemish. Yet with just one stomp of his foot, the entire Liuxiang Kingdom would tremble.
He was Chu Wushang, the current sect leader of New Moon Sect.
The Trial of Experience occurred once every year with the aim of enhancing disciples' combat abilities and adaptability. Only those who had experienced trials of blood and fire could become qualified disciples of New Moon Sect.
Most cultivators are tested for their Spiritual Root at a young age. Once confirmed with their Spiritual Root attributes, they can begin adaptive training after turning ten years old. By fifteen, most would have achieved either Qi Refinement First Layer or Second Layer; very few reach Third Layer by that age.
Due to this self-refining Qi approach—often referred to as a "greenhouse" route—many disciples may have surpassed ordinary mortals in strength but have never seen blood or killed anyone. If these disciples encounter equally skilled opponents in challenges, they are bound to suffer defeat; at best they would lose face, at worst they could lose their lives.
To improve these disciples' psychological resilience, training became an essential subject. However, such trials were also brutal; the sect could not assess how dangerous each training ground might be, making casualties unavoidable during each trial.
Cold Moon Hall Master Li Xiang announced the experience training tasks and precautions, then turned his gaze to the sect leader Chu Wushang.
Chu Wushang stood up, took a few steps forward, scanned the disciples who were about to depart for their training, and nodded slightly.
“Seventh Elder,” Chu Wushang addressed the elder sitting at the end, “I leave this experience training entirely to you. These disciples are the future of Sect, so I hope Seventh Elder will take good care of them.”
Seventh Elder Lu Dishi stood up and bowed to the sect leader, saying, “Rest assured, Lu Dishi will do everything possible to ensure the safety of My Sect’s disciples.”
“Good.” Chu Wushang turned around and looked at the departing formation again, asking loudly, “Are you afraid?”
Inspired by the atmosphere, the disciples replied in unison, “We are not afraid!”
“I will be waiting for your return!” Chu Wushang’s voice was brief yet powerful and filled with expectation as he sat back down in his Master Position.
Lu Dishi surveyed the team for a moment, waved his hand, and commanded, “Depart!” The team stirred, and under the direction of several leaders at the front, they split into two columns and headed down the mountain.
There were no grand speeches or stirring declarations; the Trial of Experience ended simply like this.
The task for this experience training was to collect Cat Ear Flower from the outskirts of Beast Wasteland. Each disciple needed to pick one flower to complete their mission. The Cat Ear Flower blooms every three years, and currently was in its blooming season. It is a unique medicinal herb found in Beast Wasteland, wilting after three days of blooming; it must be harvested before it withers and stored in a special Jade Box, or its medicinal properties would be lost.
The petals of the Cat Ear Flower are shaped like inverted triangles, with one flower per stalk. It is an excellent material for refining spiritual medicine; some Fifth-Rank Pills use Cat Ear Flower. In the Fairy Market, the price for one stalk of Cat Ear Flower has been driven up to over a thousand spirit stones.
While not particularly rare in Beast Wasteland, the Cat Ear Flower is also a favorite of the third-tier demon beast Azure Eye Cat. If one is not careful, they may encounter an attack from an Azure Eye Cat, which is equivalent to a master at the eighth level of Refining Qi. For mid- to low-level disciples, completing this task with just one flower would require a stroke of luck.
This experience training team was led by Seventh Elder Lu Dishi. Among the three outer sect halls, there were twenty from Cold Moon Hall, five from Flying Star Hall, and five from Liuyun Hall. From the three outer sect halls, there were fifteen from Rage War Hall, five from Qianlong Hall, along with two standout experts from Mistaken Sword Hall: Miao Lifang and Cai Shujun.
The hall masters from both inner and outer sects did not attend; aside from Seventh Elder, the two experts from Mistaken Sword Hall became objects of admiration and furtive glances. The experts participating in this experience training never expected that Mistaken Sword Hall would send representatives.
The Mistaken Sword Hall resides on its own peak and only attends sect meetings on special occasions. The founder of Mistaken Sword Hall, who is currently in seclusion, is the Grand Elder of New Moon Sect, the only and most powerful female elder: Qiu Wuling.
Mistaken Sword Hall has forty members, with two-thirds of them being disciples above the Foundation Establishment stage. This proportion and number undeniably make it the top sect of the New Moon Sect. To put it bluntly, if Qiu Wuling were willing, Mistaken Sword Hall could completely separate from New Moon Sect, establish its own territory, and become independent.
For many years, Mistaken Sword Hall has represented New Moon Sect at the ten-yearly "Xian Dao Liu Xiang" conference in Liuxiang Kingdom, consistently reaching the Final Four. Many uninformed loose cultivators mistakenly believe that New Moon Sect is composed entirely of female disciples. In the past decade, Mistaken Sword Hall has produced five new talented juniors who have defeated disciples from Rage War Hall and Qianlong Hall in competitions within the sect, earning them the title of Five Golden Flowers of Mistaken Sword Hall.
Miao Lifang is one of the Five Golden Flowers. As for Cai Shujun, she can no longer be described merely as a flower; she is a direct disciple of Qiu Wuling, having followed him since she was eight. Now, at under twenty, Cai Shujun is already a Foundation Disciple and a remarkable talent in Mistaken Sword Hall. In comparison, Miao Lifang, one of the Five Flowers of the Mistaken Sword Hall, seems like mere support next to her.
Cai Shujun has only fought once at the Training Ground of New Moon Sect. Last year, after defeating the top junior disciple, Huang Chang, she declined the rewards from the sect and made only one request: to have a match against Cai Shujun.
Huang Chang, also one of the Five Golden Flowers, has always wanted to compete with Cai Shujun. Unfortunately, due to Cai Shujun's long-term training with Qiu Wuling, she never had the chance. This request during the sect conference left Cai Shujun with no way to back out.
In that battle, Huang Chang launched five sword strikes but didn't even touch the edge of Cai Shujun. In contrast, Cai Shujun only needed to make one strike to break through Huang Chang's sword net, stopping just at her chest.
Since then, Cai Shujun has been recognized as the top junior expert of New Moon Sect. Coupled with her stunning beauty and kind personality, she has captivated many male disciples of New Moon Sect. It is said that whenever Cai Shujun appears, there is a crowd at the foot of Mistaken Sword Hall, with disciples fighting fiercely for a chance to go to Mistaken Sword Hall for work or messages, even leading to serious injuries or fatalities.
Unexpectedly, this time during training, they were fortunate enough to be alongside Cai Shujun. All participating disciples cheered with excitement and offered high incense. Even Xu Feng, a time traveler, couldn't help but exclaim that she is even more popular than Lin Shuhao.
