Leo stood in his simple room, mechanically packing his luggage. Every movement revealed his inner weakness and heaviness. The air in the room seemed to become even heavier, as each breath resisted the impending departure.
He carefully folded each piece of clothing and placed them in the suitcase. But when his gaze fell on the familiar military uniform in the wardrobe, his movements suddenly paused. The military uniform carried the glory and responsibility of his role as a soldier, and the shining Second Lieutenant emblem on it now seemed unusually glaring.
He slowly took out the military uniform, his fingers gently sliding over the shining emblem. This badge, symbolizing honor and responsibility, now seemed filled with irony and pain in his eyes. He thought that if he had just been an ordinary soldier, without shouldering so much responsibility and expectation, perhaps his situation would be different now.
The dreams and ideals from the past now seemed so small and fragile under the harsh reality. He had once proudly worn this military uniform, eager to prove himself on the battlefield, but now, all of that was in the past, and he couldn't even wear the military uniform anymore.
In Leo's eyes, a hint of sadness flashed as he gently folded the military uniform, each movement filled with a silent farewell. Finally, he slowly placed the military uniform into the suitcase, as if sealing away his military career and all the memories.
As the lid of the suitcase closed, it was as if a door in Leo's heart also shut. He slowly stood up, taking a last look around the room that had been his companion for so long. Every corner was filled with his memories and shadows of the past. But now, he had to leave it all behind and embark on an unknown journey.
He took a deep breath, trying to dispel the heaviness in his heart. As he was about to leave, this moment was not just a change of location for Leo, but also a transition in his life stage. His gaze finally fell on the tightly closed suitcase, feeling not only helpless but also a hint of confusion about the future.
Leo picked up the suitcase and was about to leave the room when suddenly there was a knock on the door. Leo turned around and placed the suitcase by the bed, feeling somewhat hesitant at this moment. The knocking at the door made him curious because, after all, at such a moment, the visitor was unexpected. He walked towards the door, gently grasped the handle, and couldn't help but wonder who the visitor might be.
"Please come in!" When the door slid open, Leo saw a familiar face - a soldier from the Alpha Team. The soldier was still wrapped in bandages, clearly showing the scars of just returning from the battlefield. Despite this, he still stood tall and gave Leo a standard military salute.
Leo was surprised and couldn't help but ask, "Soldier, is there something you need?"
The injured soldier coughed and tried to maintain a serious attitude, but his eyes revealed an unusual determination. "Second Lieutenant, I heard that you are about to leave Four Minnow Star and return to Earth. Before you leave, I have a few words I want to say to you," Leo nodded, indicating the soldier to continue. He felt curious about what the soldier would say.
The soldier took a deep breath and spoke with determination, "Second Lieutenant, I want to thank you. In the toughest moments of Alpha Team, it was your courage and determination that inspired all of us. Your performance on the battlefield made every one of us proud. Even though the current situation requires you to leave, please know that you will always be a hero in our hearts."
As Leo listened to the soldier's words, he felt a surge of complex emotions. He had never imagined that his actions would have such a profound impact on others.
"Thank you, soldier. It means a lot to me to know that someone thinks this way," Leo's tone revealed a hint of gratitude.
The soldier nodded and then said, "I represent Alpha Team, and I wish you a safe journey. Wherever you are, we will remember everything you've done for us."
After the soldier finished speaking, he still stood at the door, as if he had something else to say. Leo looked at him with some confusion and asked, "Is everything okay, soldier?"
At Leo's inquiry, the soldier took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions. Despite his efforts to keep his body upright, the trembling of his shoulders and the choked-up voice revealed the inner struggle he was experiencing.
"Second Lieutenant, I... I still have something to say," the soldier's voice trembled, as if trying to hold back tears.
Leo looked at him, his expression softened, filled with understanding. "Please speak, soldier. There's nothing you can't say to me."
The soldier slowly took out a platter from his pocket, and the platter shimmered faintly in the light. His voice trembled, clearly filled with emotional weight. He handed the platter to Leo, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
"This was given to me by Vice Admiral Mike before the major cleanup operation. He... seemed to have a premonition, saying that this might be his last time coming home. He entrusted this to me, saying that if anything unexpected happened, he hoped I could give it to you." The soldier's voice choked up, tears glistening in his eyes.
Leo took the platter and lightly touched its edge as if silently communicating with Mike through this small object. The cold metal surface of the platter seemed to hold Mike's warmth in that moment.
"He said this is for his best friend, which is you, Second Lieutenant. He hopes this thing can be handed to you when... when he's gone." The soldier's voice sounded heavy, and the sadness in his eyes seemed to tell the untold stories of the battlefield.
Leo fell silent for a moment, took a deep breath, and gazed fixedly at the platter in his hand, a complex mix of emotions crossing his face. This simple object was like the last memento Mike had left him, a precious memory, an unbreakable bond. "Thank you, soldier. Thank you for bringing it safely to me," Leo's voice was low, with a barely perceptible tremor.
The soldier nodded, showing even more respect in his eyes. He saluted Leo again and then left the room. Leo was left standing alone, holding the platter that Mike had left behind, feeling a mix of longing and complex emotions about the future.
