Xu Feng found that the current season was just the time of full daylight, and he didn't know how long it would take for it to get dark.
After three consecutive days without any sign of darkness, Xu Feng could no longer sit still. This situation was not sustainable, so he discussed with Colorful Rooster and decided to take the initiative and try their luck; it was better than just sitting here doing nothing.
First, they needed to locate Snowstorm Garden on the map.
The Snowstorm Plain was the place Arctic Chicken liked the least because it was home to the most Snow Ants. Each Snow Ant was as big as a white mouse, feeding on snow and completely transparent, making them even harder to spot than Arctic Chicken. They grew by eating snow, and it was a mystery how they managed to survive.
Xu Feng took out the rough sketch drawn by the crow, which showed the exact location of Snowstorm Garden.
Following the map's guidance, Xu Feng walked another twenty miles. The wind and snow grew increasingly fierce; what had started as bright sunshine turned into a blizzard as they moved further along. If one were to walk on the ground, as soon as their feet left the ground, their footprints would be instantly erased by the falling snow.
The snowfall intensified, blocking out sunlight and darkening the surroundings. This actually benefited Xu Feng in searching for Arctic Chicken, as a moving white object would be easy to spot against the dark backdrop.
Ahead appeared a patch of trees. It couldn't accurately be called a forest since the trees were so sparse; there were only a few hundred meters between each one. In this silvery world, several dark green trees stood out prominently.
These trees were scattered across the snowy ground; they seemed chaotic yet followed an underlying order. There were only about a hundred of them, but they occupied nearly a hundred miles of area. No matter how heavy the snowfall was, those trees could not be concealed. As soon as snow landed on them, it quickly melted into water and seeped into the ground.
This was indeed Snowstorm Garden.
Colorful Rooster stretched its neck and breathed quickly in the air, its eyes growing brighter.
"Do you sense the presence of Arctic Chicken?" Xu Feng asked.
Colorful Rooster shook its head but then nodded slightly.
Xu Feng was puzzled and walked over to a Conifer Tree. He touched the branches and leaves; this type of Conifer Tree was somewhat similar to the Azure Pine from his past life, but the wood quality was many times better.
Around the Conifer Tree, there seemed to be an invisible aura that melted all the accumulated snow, preventing it from weighing down the tree.
The Colorful Rooster circled around the tree twice before suddenly burrowing into the roots. There was a small amount of snow at the base, but once the Colorful Rooster squeezed its body in, it couldn't go any further. It scratched away the snow but found the ground as hard as iron; although it was soil, it just couldn't penetrate it.
The Colorful Rooster backed away for several yards and then burrowed down from the surrounding snow. Finally, it disappeared into the snow.
After a while, the Colorful Rooster emerged with a snow-white wriggling creature in its beak. This creature was entirely white and had a transparent quality; one could clearly see what was inside its belly. It had six legs dangling down, evidently killed by the Colorful Rooster.
"Is this the Snow Ant?"
The Colorful Rooster nodded in affirmation and dropped the Snow Ant on the ground.
Xu Feng understood what the Colorful Rooster meant and recalled how he and Xu Ruchu used to capture Soul Beasts by using a Giant Head Beast as bait to lure them out.
Xu Feng hung the Snow Ant on the tree and retreated twenty meters with the rooster, both hiding in the snow with only their two eyes visible.
After waiting for ten minutes, Xu Feng grew a bit impatient. From capturing the Snow Ant to setting up an ambush, all these actions were done openly. If this could trick an Arctic Chicken, then that Arctic Chicken must be quite foolish.
Lying in the snow, there was no movement apart from swirling snowflakes. Xu Feng looked at the Colorful Rooster, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Just then, a two-foot tall White Shadow darted to the base of the tree, leaped lightly, and swallowed the Snow Ant whole.
"Chase!"
Xu Feng burst out of the snow and darted towards the White Shadow.
The White Shadow was none other than the Arctic Chicken. Just as Xu Feng emerged from the snow, the Arctic Chicken dove into the deep snow.
The hard ground beneath the Conifer Tree was only about ten meters in diameter. In a short-distance sprint, Xu Feng was no match for the Arctic Chicken. The soft snow was like water to the Arctic Chicken; once it burrowed in, it was like a fish entering the sea.
Xu Feng plunged into the snow, but the collapsing snow sealed all traces, leaving him clueless about the direction in which the Arctic Chicken had fled.
It turned out that the Arctic Chicken had long been aware of Xu Feng's trickery. This was its territory, and as soon as Xu Feng entered the snow, he had no way to deal with it. That was why it dared to come out and eat that Snow Ant.
"Goo goo!" The Multicolored Rooster called out and dove into the snow.
Xu Feng slapped his forehead, realizing how foolish he was. Just because he couldn't find it didn't mean that it couldn't find him.
Sure enough, as the Multicolored Rooster burrowed into the snow, it quickly sensed the direction of the Arctic Chicken thanks to its Rooster Clan instincts. Xu Feng followed closely behind, pushing forward rapidly through the snow.
The Multicolored Rooster was a Seventh Level Nascent Soul Stage beast, while the Arctic Chicken that had just shown itself only possessed Golden Core Stage strength. Its speed was clearly inferior to that of the Colorful Rooster. However, it excelled in familiarity with the terrain and moved in curves through the snow. Each time the Colorful Rooster accelerated, it encountered a giant rock blocking its path and had to go around it.
Xu Feng had immense strength but found himself unable to assist in this rapid tracking process.
Fortunately, the overall speed of the Colorful Rooster was faster than that of the Arctic Chicken. Judging by the traces pressed into the snow, they were closing in on their target.
"Whoosh!" The Arctic Chicken never expected that Xu Feng had brought another one of its kind along. With nowhere to escape, it flew out from underground and appeared in the snow.
Xu Feng followed closely behind, but the Arctic Chicken dove back into the snow, and the Colorful Rooster did not let up, diving in after it.
Back and forth they went several times, and finally, the Arctic Chicken was exhausted. On the eighth time it flew out into the sky, Xu Feng intercepted it with the Gale Sword Formation. Thirty-six Flying Swords surrounded the Arctic Chicken tightly from all directions.
"If you move again, I'll pin you down like a sieve."
The Arctic Chicken stopped in mid-air, letting out a desperate cry. From its call, several more Arctic Chickens burst out from the snow. Seeing the situation, they dared not come to its rescue and quickly fled as far away as possible.
Xu Feng pressed down on the Arctic Chicken with one hand while using the other to cast several seals, controlling its spiritual power so it couldn't move. Only then did he dismiss the Gale Sword Formation.
Though the Arctic Chicken couldn't escape, it could still talk. It squawked angrily at the Multicolored Rooster, clearly cursing it for leading it into this trap.
The Colorful Rooster felt guilty and had no words to retort. After the Arctic Chicken finished its tirade, it managed to respond with a few half-hearted remarks.
Upon hearing this, the Arctic Chicken's expression softened slightly, but its eyes were still filled with hatred.
Xu Feng couldn't stand it any longer. As a captive, why wasn't it begging for mercy instead of putting on airs? Xu Feng said, "I've changed my mind. I don't want just a little blood; I want to take it away entirely for future use."
Upon hearing this, the Colorful Rooster cried out in desperation.
Xu Feng replied, "Don't worry about that; just relay my words to it."
Colorful Rooster translated Xu Feng's words into "chicken language" for Arctic Chicken to hear.
Arctic Chicken was indeed frightened and pleaded with Colorful Rooster, hoping for leniency in the policy and expressing a willingness to negotiate.
Xu Feng intended to scare it a bit and diminish its arrogance, so he did not relent.
As Arctic Chicken grew increasingly anxious, it finally said something to Colorful Rooster, which made Colorful Rooster hesitate.
Noticing the change in atmosphere, Xu Feng asked, "What did it say?"
Colorful Rooster, not fluent in human language, thought for a moment and then began drawing several pictures in the dirt with its claws.
First, it drew Arctic Chicken, then behind it sketched Xu Feng and Colorful Rooster, and in front of them, it drew a house.
The drawing was crooked and messy, at best reflecting Xu Feng's artistic skills from school. However, the meaning was relatively clear: as long as Xu Feng did not make things difficult for it, Arctic Chicken would take both Xu Feng and Colorful Rooster to find a house.
This house must contain something appealing to humans; otherwise, Arctic Chicken would not propose such a condition.
After some thought, Xu Feng replied, "No way. What if you trick me and lead me into a trap? I'll take three taels of your blood as collateral. If your place satisfies me, I won’t make things hard for you; otherwise, don’t blame me for taking your life." With that, he cut open one of Arctic Chicken's veins and collected half a pound of its fresh blood in a vial.
Indeed, Arctic Chicken's blood was as rumored—icy cold to the bone, with an intense chill that could be felt even through the bottle. No matter what tricks Arctic Chicken played, securing the blood first was essential.
Poor Arctic Chicken, due to a moment of thoughtlessness, could have exchanged three taels of blood for its life but ended up angering Xu Feng. Not only did it lose half a pound of blood, but it also had to take Xu Feng to find the house.
The Arctic Chicken stood about two feet tall, roughly the same height as a sheep, and was shorter than the Colorful Rooster. If it had lost half a pound of blood, the Arctic Chicken would have fainted on the spot.
Xu Feng took out a few pills and had the Colorful Rooster administer them.
Half an hour later, the Arctic Chicken regained some strength, and Xu Feng signaled for it to lead the way to find a house.
The Colorful Rooster went over to comfort it, and the Arctic Chicken's attitude improved significantly. It tried its best to behave and not provoke that human again.
The trio—one person and two chickens—once again burrowed into the snow, going deeper and deeper. They first passed through an area of accumulated snow, which gradually revealed scattered stones. These stones were haphazardly placed, resembling underwater reefs that could easily cause one to collide if not careful.
After traversing a large expanse of snow, they reached solid ground. The Arctic Chicken continued along the surface and slid into a chasm. Geographically, this chasm felt like a large gorge that had been buried under snow, making it completely unnoticeable from above.
Upon entering the gorge, the snow suddenly became hard and eventually formed solid ice. The Arctic Chicken found a passageway within the ice and continued deeper inside.
The solid ice gradually took shape, showing signs of some carving. The passage widened as they progressed, transforming from a narrow path into a square corridor that was clearly man-made.
Glimmers of unknown gemstones sparkled on the ice walls, illuminating the passage brightly.
Xu Feng kept a keen eye on his surroundings, while the Arctic Chicken seemed oblivious, confidently moving forward as if it were very familiar with the area.
After about ten minutes of walking, they encountered an Ice Gate blocking their path.
This gate was made of incredibly hard ice. Xu Feng pushed against it, but it didn’t budge. He took out his exquisite Treasure Blade and made two swift cuts; however, they only left two one-inch deep scratches. As soon as he sheathed the blade, the scratches were frozen over and returned to their original state.
What should I do? This door can't even be opened with the Supreme Treasure; should I burn it instead?
Just when Xu Feng was at a loss, Arctic Chicken whispered something in Multicolored Rooster's ear and then stood still.
Xu Feng asked, "Does it know how to open this door?"
Colorful Rooster nodded, but there was a look of difficulty on its face.
Xu Feng understood Colorful Rooster's meaning and said, "If you open this door, I'll let it go, and I hope it won't harm me."
Colorful Rooster was delighted and turned to communicate with Arctic Chicken. Arctic Chicken nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Arctic Chicken walked a short distance down the corridor and scratched a few times in an inconspicuous corner.
"Wow!" The Ice Gate slowly opened.
