He grabbed me and dragged me into the yard. He threw me on the ground and closed the door. He walked over to me, crouched down beside me, and said, "Which child are you talking about?" I struggled to stand up; I wanted to go out and find Gousheng. The man pulled me back and said, "You can't leave." I looked at him and asked, "Why?" He replied, "You are mine." 0

The man locked me in the storage room. I banged on the door, shouting, "Let me out!" He said, "Shut up." "Let me out!" I yelled again. The man kicked the door and shouted, "Shut up!" I leaned against the door and slowly crouched down. I hugged my knees and began to cry. 0

Peering through the crack of the door, I watched the man in the yard. He was cleaning up the butcher shop. He dragged a bench over and sat down. He took a sharp knife and crouched in front of two pieces of "meat." He cut a piece of "meat," slicing off a piece of skin from it. My eyes widened as I realized what I was seeing. Those two pieces of "meat" were two dead bodies. This was a slaughterhouse. 0

I froze, collapsing onto the ground. Leaning against the door, I closed my eyes. When I opened them again, I looked through the crack once more. I saw a large copper pot in the slaughterhouse, with a fire burning brightly underneath it, boiling water bubbling inside. 0

I looked towards the front of the Slaughterhouse. 0
In front of the Slaughterhouse, there was a wooden board. 0
A child was lying on the board. 0
It was Gousheng! 0
I widened my eyes. 0
Gousheng was lying on the ground, and beneath him was a pool of blood. 0
My head buzzed, and all the blood rushed to my head. 0
I looked at the man and shouted as I rushed to smash the door, "Did you kill Gousheng?" 0
As the door broke apart, I pulled a hairpin from my hair and charged at the man. 0
The man ran towards me and lunged at me. 0
He grabbed my wrist and pinned my arm down. 0
He squeezed my neck and bit my ear. 0
He bit my ear and said, "You are mine." 0
I stared wide-eyed, my mouth agape. 0
I howled and struggled. 0
I clutched the man's shoulders, digging my nails into his back. 0
I bit his arm and clawed at his neck. 0
The man tightened his grip on my neck and threw me to the ground. 0
He mounted me, still choking me. 0
He said, "You are mine." 0
My chest hurt terribly; it felt like my lungs were going to explode. 0
I gasped for air, unable to breathe. 0
I stared at the man with all my strength and plunged the hairpin into his neck. 0
I lay on the ground, struggling to catch my breath. 0
I lay there for a long time before I turned over. 0

I crawled over to Gousheng and picked him up. I shook Gousheng and shouted, " Gousheng! Gousheng!" 0

Gousheng opened his eyes, looked at me, and said, "Sister, I'm hungry." 0

I looked at Gousheng and replied, "I'll take you to eat." 0

I held Gousheng and stood up, walking toward the door. 0

I stumbled out of the Slaughterhouse. 0

I shouted, "Help! Help!" 0

My sister heard my cries and rushed over. 0

She looked at me and then at Gousheng in my arms, tears streaming down her face. 0

She took Gousheng from me and carried him on her back as she ran toward the hospital. 0

The hospital doors were tightly shut, and it was empty inside. 0

My sister sat at the entrance of the hospital, holding Gousheng close. 0

She kissed Gousheng's forehead and let him rest against her chest. 0

She patted his back while humming a lullaby our mother taught us. 0

Gousheng stared blankly at me and said, "Sister, it hurts." 0

Gousheng continued to look at me and said, "Sister, I miss Mom." 0

His mouth opened as his gaze grew dimmer. 0

He stared blankly at me, his mouth moving slowly. 0

He left us. 0

Gousheng died at the age of ten. 0

My sister dug a small hole and buried Gousheng there. 0

She also made a small wooden sign that read "Zhao Gousheng's Grave." 0

She hugged the sign, leaned over the grave with her face against the soil. 0

Closing her eyes, she fell asleep. 0
