"I..." Li Rong opened her mouth but didn't know how to begin.
"You are A Li, right?" Ming Yue suddenly asked, his tone gentle and certain, as if he could see through all her disguises.
Li Rong was taken aback, looking up at him in surprise. Their eyes met, and she saw a warm smile in his gaze, along with... a hint of indescribable nostalgia.
Seeing her silent, Ming Yue continued, "All these years, I have remembered you, the little girl who brought me joy in the mortal realm."
Li Rong felt a warmth in her eyes and a tingling in her nose. For so many years, she had worried that revealing her identity would lead to retaliation, yet she never expected that he would still remember her and hold no resentment.
"You... really don't blame me?" Li Rong's voice trembled slightly.
Ming Yue gently shook his head and smiled softly. "As for what happened back then, I too had my faults; you need not take it to heart. But... how have you been all these years?"
Looking into his sincere eyes, Li Rong felt a mix of emotions. She lowered her head and nodded gently.
---
"Actually..." Li Rong took a deep breath as if making a significant decision. She slowly raised her head and looked at Ming Yue with determination. "The one who teased you back then in the mortal realm was me."
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Rong nervously observed Ming Yue's expression, trying to catch any change on his face. However, Ming Yue only paused for a moment before breaking into a relieved smile.
"I thought it was quite a coincidence," Ming Yue said lightly, shaking his head as if talking to himself. "So it really was you."
"You... aren't you angry?" Li Rong asked cautiously, her tone laced with disbelief.
"Angry?" Ming Yue raised an eyebrow, a playful smile curling at the corners of his mouth. "Why would I be angry?"
He stood up and walked in front of Li Rong, his gaze piercing as he looked at her. "I've long forgotten about what happened back then. Besides, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have spent that carefree and joyful time in the mortal realm."
Li Rong stared blankly at the close proximity of Ming Yue, her heart a mix of emotions. It turned out he hadn't forgotten; he had simply chosen to let go. Guilt, gratitude, and joy intertwined within her, leaving her at a loss.
"I... I just thought you were fun back then, so..." Li Rong lowered her head, twisting her fingers, finding it hard to speak.
"I know," Ming Yue gently took her hand, his tone soft yet firm. "You are inherently kind; you just enjoy teasing people."
Li Rong suddenly looked up, astonished at him.
"You remember everything?" she asked incredulously, a hint of sweetness blooming in her heart. So he had always understood her.
Ming Yue said nothing but smiled gently, his smile warm like spring breeze, instantly melting away all of Li Rong's unease and apprehension.
"Alright, it's getting late. I should head back," Ming Yue released her hand and turned to leave.
As Li Rong watched him walk away, a sudden impulse surged within her. She rushed forward and grabbed his sleeve.
"Wait!"
Ming Yue turned his head in confusion and looked at Li Rong.
"I... I remembered, you still owe me a promise." Li Rong said, blushing and gathering her courage. "You said you wouldn't get angry so easily anymore."
Ming Yue was taken aback for a moment, then he understood what she meant. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly, revealing a hint of a doting smile.
"Alright, I promise you."
After saying that, he turned and walked away with a light step, as if he had shed some heavy burden.
Li Rong stood in place, watching his figure gradually disappear into the night, unable to hide the smile on her face.
"Supreme Deity, what's wrong? Why is your face so red?" Qin Ze looked at Li Rong with a puzzled expression.
Li Rong came back to her senses and quickly composed herself, clearing her throat in a feigned calmness. "It's nothing, just that the wine tonight is a bit strong."
With that, she turned to leave, leaving Qin Ze standing there in confusion.
In a secluded corner of Jade Pool, the Queen Mother of the West was chatting and laughing with several Fairies when suddenly she seemed to sense something. Her gaze shifted towards the direction Li Rong had left, and a hint of worry flashed in her eyes.
"It seems that the Emperor's feelings for Li Rong, the Supreme Deity, are not entirely indifferent..." the Queen Mother of the West murmured to herself. "However, this relationship may not be so simple..."
