Focusing intently, he sensed a few malevolent lifeforms not far away, still in motion; they should be members of the Corpse God Hall.
As he stepped through the forest, the towering trees around him gave off an eerie feeling. However, upon closer inspection, he found no signs of malevolence or magical fluctuations, which was quite strange.
Although he couldn't sense much, Ye Mingshang remained cautious. After all, he had suffered enough losses due to carelessness and it was time to learn from his mistakes.
The few individuals he had sensed were about a hundred meters away in the three o'clock direction. In open terrain, such a distance would be easily visible, but in the forest, various tall trees could effectively conceal their presence even at just a few dozen meters apart.
Soon, while carefully avoiding any noise, Ye Mingshang spotted a small wooden cabin not far away.
After confirming that there were people inside, Ye Mingshang was about to make his move when a loud shout came from the side.
"Who’s there?! What are you sneaking around for?!"
He had been discovered!
Startled, Ye Mingshang had no time to observe the other party. He quickly turned around and lightly stepped forward, instantly appearing in front of them.
The eyes of the Miao man widened in shock as he prepared to strike but felt darkness envelop him before losing consciousness.
Glancing at the body on the ground, dressed in Miao attire with a black base and pale skin, it was evident that this was indeed a member of the Corpse God Hall.
Ye Mingshang felt quite frustrated. He had sensed no lingering malevolence earlier; how had he suddenly been discovered from the side?
Upon further examination, he detected only a faint trace of very weak malevolence that required careful sensing to notice even at such close range.
Was this weakness due to them being newcomers?
Whatever the case!
Ye Mingshang shrugged, not caring whether he was new or not; after all, he was an enemy. However, with one such elusive newcomer around, could there be a second or third? It seemed he needed to be more cautious.
As he pondered this, two sharp shouts came from not far away.
"Come quickly! There's something going on over there!"
"I just heard that new kid shouting. Is there an enemy?"
"Who cares? Just grab what you can, Fellow."
Cursing under his breath, Ye Mingshang glanced around and quickly focused on a dense tree with a feather-like crown.
He lightly floated up and quietly concealed himself behind the thick branches and leaves.
Accompanied by the sound of rustling footsteps, several members of the Corpse God Hall appeared in his line of sight, armed and alert. Since they hadn't dealt with the body yet, they immediately noticed the fallen member who had been eliminated.
"Erzi!" one of them exclaimed, rushing forward in haste.
Flipping the body over revealed a face filled with terror.
"Erzi! Wake up! What happened to you?"
"Who was so cruel as to do this to you?"
The man held the body of the one called Erzi, crying heartbrokenly. Upon closer inspection, the two bore a striking resemblance to each other; however, given their similar ages, they couldn't possibly be father and son.
If that were the case, they must be brothers.
The middle-aged man wept bitterly, his sorrow profound.
Though his companions were members of a cult, they were not devoid of feelings. Having spent several years together, they had formed some bonds among themselves.
One of the companions couldn't bear it and came over to pat him on the shoulder.
"Daniu, don't cry. We're all very sad about Erzi's death, but just now Erzi was still talking, which means the enemy hasn't gone far. We should seek revenge for our son, don't you think?"
Hearing this, the man said fiercely, "You're right. That damned bastard killed my brother. I will turn him into a Corpse Slave and seal his soul inside, making him unable to live or die!"
"Yes, we all understand your feelings. Don't worry, Brothers will help you. After all, Erzi is also our brother."
Gently laying down the man called Erzi, Daniu wiped his tears, regret evident in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, son. If it weren't for me insisting on bringing you into the organization, you would still be farming now. Even if it was hard work, at least you wouldn't have to die. It's all because of your brother that you ended up like this!"
Thinking of this, Daniu couldn't help but cry out loud, filled with guilt.
"Alright, we need to find the murderer first. If we delay any longer, they might escape."
Nodding, Daniu held back his tears and looked around.
"But this place is so big; where should we look?"
One of the leaders stroked his chin and thought for a moment before saying, "How about this? Let's split up and search. If we find anything, we'll signal each other."
"Okay, let's do it your way."
With the decision made, several of them tightened their grips on their weapons and nervously dispersed in different directions.
Seeing their decision, Ye Mingshang showed a strange expression.
This decision was exactly what he wanted to see. Although even if they were all together, they wouldn't pose much of a threat to him and could be easily dealt with, it was obviously easier to handle them when they were separated.
He couldn't help but wonder if this leader was foolish to give such an order. Even though spreading out might increase their chances of finding someone, they still needed to consider their combat strength.
If they are not opponents, what does it matter if you find them?
However, whether the other party is incompetent is not his concern; he only needs his own plans to proceed smoothly.
His gaze flickered as Ye Mingshang controlled his body to lightly follow someone.
This was a Senior Member who had joined the Corpse God Hall for several years, but his abilities were not strong. After joining for a few years, he was merely an outer member.
Nevertheless, this kind of life was relatively leisurely. Although the salary was low, it was enough for him to satisfy his basic needs and enjoy life a little.
Since he joined the Corpse God Hall, he had never encountered any external invasions. Life had been stable, and he had just been getting by.
Although somewhat passive, he quite liked this lifestyle; he joined this organization simply to live a relaxed life.
The reputation of the Corpse God Hall was significant. Among the four major halls, it was undoubtedly one of the most prominent. Even the other three halls dared not act too recklessly towards them. Over the years, there had been conflicts among the other halls, but the Corpse God Hall had remained untouched.
So even though he knew that the Shinra Shura halls had been destroyed, he felt no worry.
However, today someone truly came knocking at their door and directly killed someone!
This was undoubtedly terrifying news for someone who just wanted to earn a paycheck and live a laid-back life.
