She glared at Mai Huahua angrily, clicking her high heels as she stormed out of the room.
Mai Huahua watched Ma Xiaoyi leave and gently shook her head. Turning to Dr. X, she said, "I'm sorry, Dr. X. I hope I didn't embarrass you."
Dr. X smiled and waved his hand, indicating that it was no big deal. "It's fine; young people can be a bit temperamental. But you, Huahua, I really admire your composure and professionalism."
Mai Huahua smiled shyly and lowered her head to organize the documents on the table.
"You shouldn't underestimate yourself," Dr. X said, patting Mai Huahua on the shoulder. "'Starfire Project' is a national key project, and being able to take on such responsibility at your age is proof of your capability."
"I'm just doing my best," Mai Huahua replied modestly. "I still have a long way to go compared to you."
"Haha, you don't need to be too humble," Dr. X laughed heartily. "I believe that in the near future, you will definitely become the brightest star in this field."
Mai Huahua nodded gratefully; Dr. X's words gave her immense encouragement.
After seeing Dr. X off, Mai Huahua returned to her workstation but found that her colleagues were looking at her with unusual expressions.
"Huahua, when did you get to know Dr. X?" a female colleague leaned over and asked curiously.
"Yeah, yeah! Dr. X is my idol! Why have you never told us about this?" another male colleague chimed in.
Mai Huahua felt a bit embarrassed by their questions and explained, "I only met Dr. X today. He came to China mainly to collaborate with us on the development of the new engine for the Starfire Project."
"Wow! Really? That's amazing!" Her colleagues exclaimed, their eyes filled with envy and admiration.
"Hua Hua, you're incredible! You get to work with Dr. X!"
"Yeah, you're a role model for all of us!"
In response to her colleagues' praise, Mai Huahua merely smiled faintly, not showing much joy. She knew that this honor belonged not just to her but to the entire team.
However, not everyone was happy about Mai Huahua's achievements. Ma Xiaoyi stormed back to her van after leaving the research institute, fuming with anger.
With a loud thud, she threw her bag onto the seat, her delicate face clouded with frustration.
"Xiao Yi, what's wrong? Who upset you?" her manager asked cautiously.
"Who else could it be but that Mai Huahua!" Ma Xiaoyi gritted her teeth and said, "She actually knows Dr. X and is involved in the Starfire Project! Why should she get that? Just because she looks like a nerd?"
The manager immediately understood; Ma Xiaoyi was jealous.
"Xiao Yi, don't be upset," the manager comforted her. "Mai Huahua is just a researcher; how can she compare to you? You're a big star, and she's just an ordinary person. You're not even in the same world."
"But why would Dr. X want to collaborate with her?" Ma Xiaoyi said stubbornly. "I'm clearly more beautiful and famous than she is. Why does Dr. X look at her differently?"
The agent sighed helplessly, knowing that Ma Xiaoyi had been spoiled since childhood, proud and unable to tolerate anyone being better than her.
"Xiao Yi, don't overthink it," the agent advised. "Dr. X is just discussing work with her, not trying to date her. Why do you care so much?"
"What do you know!" Ma Xiaoyi said angrily. "I want to make her look bad! I want the whole world to know that she, Mai Huahua, doesn't deserve to be part of the Starfire Project!"
A glint of malice flashed in Ma Xiaoyi's eyes as she took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, help me get in touch with some media friends. I have a scoop to share..."
