The Mount Battle Competition is divided into the Advanced Mount Competition and the Low-Level Mount Competition. The Low-Level Mount Competition is primarily aimed at regular students of the Regular Knight School. Most students at the Regular Knight School are ordinary knights with limited family resources, and very few possess high-level mounts.
Therefore, the Campus Competition also categorizes the contests into Advanced Mount Competition and Low-Level Mount Competition. Mounts rated Four-Star Beast and above are considered high-level mounts, while three-tiered magical beast mounts are classified as low-level mounts.
However, the competitions for Calligraphy and Calculation will be determined through exams held throughout the school. After the calligraphy exam, the school will select five outstanding students to participate in the Campus Competition, while for Calculation, five students from each grade will be chosen as participants in the Preliminary Competition. The school will then unify the questions to select the best five to compete in the Campus Competition.
After intense preparations, Rainfront Academy's Campus Competition Preliminary has finally begun. Rainfront Academy has ten arenas, each featuring a student as a Seed Player. Each arena holds three challenge matches daily; regardless of the outcome, the winner of the third match will become tomorrow's Seed Champion.
Each participant is allowed to challenge three times; if they fail all three attempts, they will lose their qualification to continue challenging. To facilitate this Preliminary Competition, all afternoon classes have been suspended. Each day is dedicated to Arena Competitions for participating students.
In the arenas, there are four Seed Players from fourth grade, three from third grade, two from second grade, and one from first grade. This arrangement is specifically designed by the school to support younger students and encourage them.
Among the Seed Players from second grade and first grade, Liu Guanfeng knows all three of them. The first arena features Big Monkey Hou Jinming, who is a cousin of a little monkey under Ma Sanbao's command. The second arena showcases Leihong. In the first-grade arena is Liu Tongniu, someone he knows very well.
On the first day of the Preliminary Competition, each arena is packed with spectators. In front of each arena stand the competing contestants, while behind them are the audience. Liu Guanfeng naturally signed up for participation because he believes he has reached the highest level among all Junior Academy students; he has successfully opened nine meridians and entered the Junior Knight level.
His Mind Method has also made slight progress; he can now successfully separate fire elements. The highest level among Junior Academy students is that of an Apprentice Knight who has opened six meridians. The Preliminary Competition will last for one month; after this period, the ten Seed Champions from each arena will enter the second round of competition.
At this moment, Director Jin in the arena is explaining its requirements. Following him are ten teachers who will serve as judges for the arenas over the next month. Due to limited challenges and it being the first day of competition, Liu Guanfeng does not rush onto the stage; his main goal is to observe the strengths of other contestants.
With Director Jin's signal to start, all arenas become busy. Although Copper Bull demonstrated extremely strong abilities during previous challenges, he remains the only First Grade Seed Player among them, so many still doubt his strength.
As Director Jin announces the start of competition, a challenger immediately appears in Copper Bull's arena. This challenger is a third-grade boy with Water Type attributes; he has an average height but notably pale skin that rivals that of girls. He intends to use his elemental advantage against Copper Bull; however, since they are both still at the apprentice stage, elemental advantages are not very pronounced.
The boy launches an attack on Copper Bull with a punch aimed directly at his head. Copper Bull wants to intimidate other contestants as well; therefore, when faced with this punch, he does not dodge as expected but instead uses his own head to collide with the boy's fist. With a loud "bang," the boy stumbles back five or six steps before regaining his balance.
The boy looked at Copper Bull in surprise, thinking to himself: this big guy is quite strong, it seems I can only use other methods. So when the boy faced Copper Bull again, he did not rush to attack but instead played with the Sticky Technique, which marked the beginning of his tragic fate.
Liu Guanfeng had already taught Tai Chi and Youth Long Fist to Bao Rui and the others. When Bao Rui and the others saw the intricacies of the boxing techniques, they all actively practiced with seriousness. Moreover, in Knight Academy, training was not very systematic, so few people had the chance to see such exquisite martial arts.
The Sticky Technique used by this boy should have been taught by an elder, but he was not very skilled in its application. It might be sufficient for an average person, but who told him to challenge Copper Bull right away? Liu Guanfeng thought: even if his elder came here, the Sticky Technique they used could not compare to my Tai Chi from Chinese Martial Arts.
So when the boy executed the Sticky Technique, Copper Bull was momentarily taken aback, then a smile appeared at the corner of Copper Bull's mouth that others could not understand.
Next, the boy's unfortunate fate began. He placed his arm on Copper Bull, intending to stick to Copper Bull's fist; however, contrary to his intention, it was not he who stuck to Copper Bull but rather he who was stuck by Copper Bull.
Due to his strength being far inferior to Copper Bull's and with Copper Bull using leverage, the boy began to revolve around Copper Bull on stage, making him spin in circles. After a certain number of rotations, Copper Bull started teaching him how to spin on his own.
When Copper Bull believed that the boy had become familiar with both self-rotation and revolution, under Copper Bull's guidance, the boy became like Earth while Copper Bull was like the Sun. The boy revolved around Copper Bull while simultaneously spinning on his own. It was unclear how many times he spun; anyway, when Liu Guanfeng felt a bit dizzy watching him, Copper Bull immediately stopped.
Looking back at the boy, after spinning a few more times in the direction of the Arena's edge, he finally stood still. However, after standing up, his body swayed unsteadily like someone who was drunk. Copper Bull walked over to him and gently pushed him; the boy stumbled back three steps before falling off the stage.
Around the Competition Arena were thick grass mats designed to prevent students from getting injured when they fell off the Arena.
After falling onto the grass mat, the boy did not get up immediately; he lay there for about ten minutes before shakily standing up. He looked at the Arena with a puzzled expression before walking out of the crowd.
Once outside the crowd, the boy pondered why he could achieve results using this Sticky Technique against others but ended up being spun around by this big guy instead. No way! I need to go home and ask my father.
Since this was the first match, none of the challengers were particularly strong. By the time Copper Bull achieved victory, all nine other matches had already concluded. In fact, Copper Bull was the slowest one; this was not a good thing for him because winning slowly would lead others to believe that among all Seed Champions, Copper Bull should be considered the weakest. Thus, he might face challenges from more opponents.
However, Liu Guanfeng knew very well that no one could defeat Copper Bull; even if another Leihong appeared, it would be impossible. Through this period of training, although Bao Rui, Copper Bull, and Iron Bull had not managed to open new meridians again, cultivating in an environment with ten times elemental concentration was a privilege that ordinary people could not enjoy.
The strength of all three had been consolidated, and they had all told him that soon they would be able to challenge their next meridian. Additionally, all three had already used Iron Skin Soup five times.
Arena Competition requires a half-hour break after each match before the next one begins. While Copper Bull was resting on stage, Liu Guanfeng turned his gaze towards Leihong.
The second match for Leihong had already started. Leihong's opponent was a nimble fighter, smaller and thinner in build. He attempted to harass Leihong with quick attacks, always evading Leihong's strikes. However, Leihong's opponent lacked practiced dodging techniques and made mistakes easily.
At that moment, as he moved from Leihong's left to right, Leihong swung his arm and threw a punch. The opponent quickly crouched down to avoid the blow, but then Leihong followed up with a horizontal right punch. The opponent had no time to evade and could only brace himself, crossing his arms in front of his chest to absorb the impact of Leihong's powerful strike.
He staggered back four or five steps before regaining his balance, but Leihong did not give him a chance to rest. He lunged forward with a kick; the boy stepped back just in time to avoid it. As Leihong's left foot landed, he swept with his right leg, striking the opponent's left side.
With a cry of pain, the frail boy ran several steps to the right and off the stage. He had taken quite a hit and lay on the mat for five minutes without getting up, eventually being helped out of the competition area by two classmates.
After winning his second match, Leihong glanced over at Liu Tongniu's Arena. During his break, Copper Bull had been watching Leihong's match closely since their arenas were the closest together. When Copper Bull saw Leihong looking at him, he gave a thumbs-up and smiled at him. In return, Leihong smiled back and cupped his fists in gratitude.
At that moment, Copper Bull's second opponent had also taken the stage. This time, it was a student named Tang who was about the same height as Copper Bull, but weaker in build. After both announced their names, the Referee Teacher signaled for the match to begin.
The opponent seemed very confident in his strength and ability to take hits; he launched into a fierce attack against Copper Bull. Initially, Copper Bull focused on defense while mixing in some counterattacks. After exchanging several punches, he realized that this opponent was much weaker than Leihong, both in strength and ability to withstand blows.
Thus, Copper Bull began his counterattack. As he landed two or three punches, the opponent managed to respond; however, after three punches, he could only defend himself with no chance to attack back. After several more punches from Copper Bull, he executed a sweeping kick that knocked the opponent down. After knocking him down, Copper Bull created some distance. When the boy named Tang got up, he did not attack but instead cupped his fists and voluntarily conceded defeat.
He understood that his opponent had already shown mercy and realized that he had lost all ability to fight back. Rather than endure further punishment on stage, he chose to concede willingly. As he walked off the stage, he muttered:
"I thought I could easily bully a first grader, but now I realize it's better to find someone from fourth grade instead. What bad luck running into a tough opponent right away." He shook his head as he spoke.
