After seeing the strength of Copper Bull and Leihong, no one approached them for the remaining time. The other arenas were busy with their second and third matches, while the last two arenas with Copper Bull and Leihong became spectators. It wasn't until Director Jin announced the end of the first day's competition that a third contestant appeared in neither of their arenas.
Descending from the arena, Copper Bull approached Liu Guanfeng, unable to contain his smile. Liu Guanfeng patted him on the shoulder as a gesture of encouragement.
Back home, Iron Bull's enthusiasm was notably low. Liu Guanfeng said to them, "It's still too early for us to go on stage. If Copper Bull hadn't been selected as a Seed Player, I wouldn't have let you go up so soon. Since Copper Bull has already gone up, let's keep him there."
"Bao Rui and Iron Bull, you two should observe the situation first. You still have a month before the arena concludes; there's no need to rush. Now, make good use of your time to start training." After saying this, he activated the Five Elements Spirit Gathering Array while Liu Guanfeng went to read nearby.
Starting from the next day, those watching began to understand the strength of the Seed Champions. As a result, changes occurred in the Seed Champions in the arena from day two onward. The first Seed Champion to be defeated was Big Monkey Hou Jinming, who lost to a fourth-year student whose agility and strength surpassed his own, leading to an easy victory for his opponent.
In contrast, Copper Bull and Leihong had a much better situation since no challengers appeared against them on the second day. Other Seed Champions were not as formidable as them, so everyone else fought three matches each. Additionally, all third-year Seed Champions were replaced by fourth-year students, leaving only Leihong and Copper Bull among the remaining Seed Champions.
Days three through seven... and then day fifteen quickly passed. In just half a month, aside from Copper Bull and Leihong, as well as two fourth-year students, all other Seed Champions had changed several times.
The two fourth-year students included one named Zhang from Zhang's Blacksmith Shop; he was the child of a blacksmith who belonged to a branch of the prominent Zhang Family. The other was named Wang, who had no background but was said to be the child of a hunter from a village outside the city. He had learned hunting from his father since childhood, making him not only strong but also exceptionally agile.
By day fifteen, there were few contenders left in these four arenas. Unless something unexpected happened, these four would secure their spots for the second phase of competition.
Fifteen days had passed, and Iron Bull's excitement had been repeatedly dampened by Liu Guanfeng, leaving him perpetually gloomy. Today marked the sixteenth day of competition when Liu Guanfeng and others returned to the arena. When Director Jin announced the start of the arena matches, six arenas simultaneously had challengers.
Iron Bull walked over to Liu Guanfeng and said, "Third Brother, half of our competition time has passed; we should go on stage now or we won't get a chance." Liu Guanfeng glanced at Iron Bull but chose not to respond; however, he was secretly amused.
Iron Bull's expression was quite comical; despite his large size and displeasure, he forced a smile that made his face look even worse. I continued watching the matches in the arena while Iron Bull stood sullenly beside me.
Until the second match was about to end, Liu Guanfeng turned to Iron Bull and asked, "Have you chosen your opponent?" Upon hearing Liu Guanfeng's question, Iron Bull's eyes lit up, and he immediately approached him.
"I haven't thought it through yet; it doesn't really matter who I face. I'll just pick someone randomly. I'll head to the Fifth Arena shortly."
Liu Guanfeng glanced at the Fifth Arena, where the two competitors were of average skill and did not show any outstanding performance.
Liu Guanfeng nodded, "Go ahead, but remember not to lose. If you do, you'll be punished by not being allowed to practice in my room for a week."
Iron Bull nodded repeatedly, "Don't worry, Third Brother. If I can't handle him, I won't go to your room for a month."
"Just be careful," Liu Guanfeng advised before Iron Bull made his way to the Fifth Arena. Originally, there were a few other competitors wanting to participate in the third challenge in front of the Fifth Arena, but when Iron Bull stood before them, each of them instinctively took a step back. Thus, Iron Bull took the first position.
After the competitors in the Fifth Arena finished their rest, Iron Bull couldn't wait to rush up. By the time the other competitors reacted, Iron Bull was already on the arena. The others expressed their regret.
Once on the arena and after exchanging names with the Seed Champion, the referee announced the start of the match. As soon as the match began, Iron Bull launched an attack like a madman. The Seed Champion was unable to react adequately to Iron Bull's assault and could only defend and dodge. However, there were very few attacks he could evade, so he mostly ended up taking hits passively.
Thus, it became a one-sided fight with Iron Bull attacking while the Seed Champion defended and retreated. When Iron Bull landed his twelfth punch, he knocked the Seed Champion off the stage. The audience gasped in surprise; it was incredibly fast—taking only a little over ten seconds in total.
The two fourth-year Seed Champions who had not been challenged were also taken aback, wondering where this kid had come from. From what they could see, his abilities were on par with those of the Seed Champions in Arenas Nine and Ten.
They looked closely again and noticed how much the newcomer resembled the competitor from Arena Ten; it was as if they were cut from the same mold. They compared themselves and realized that it would be difficult for them to defeat this giant.
Meanwhile, Leihong and Copper Bull both gave Iron Bull a thumbs-up to congratulate him. Iron Bull smiled broadly and clasped his hands together in thanks. After a while, once all matches in the arena concluded, Director Jin announced that the competition was over once again.
On the seventeenth day, I let Bao Rui participate in the first match, and he chose the Seventh Arena. Except for Arenas One, Three, Five, Nine, and Ten, the competitors in the other arenas were generally of similar strength.
The Seed Champion that Bao Rui faced was also a fourth-year competitor. Although Bao Rui's strength was not as great as that of the Copper Bull brothers, his understanding and practice of Tai Chi were much better than theirs. Therefore, Bao Rui used Tai Chi techniques to neutralize his opponent's attacks repeatedly and ultimately employed the principle of using force against force to send his opponent off the arena.
Since Bao Rui did not exert all his strength and was primarily on the defensive, when the Seed Champion was knocked off the arena, he sat on the grass mat below and contemplated how he had fallen. Eventually, he concluded that it was due to his own misstep; he hadn't paid attention to his footing during the match. He promised himself to be more careful next time to avoid a repeat of this tragedy. Having come to this realization, the Seed Champion stood up and walked toward another arena.
Seeing that Bao Rui had already taken to the arena, Liu Guanfeng arrived at Arena Three for his second match. The people lining up below the arena made way for Liu Guanfeng as soon as they saw him, not for any other reason than that his father was the City Defense General.
At this moment, Liu Guanfeng finally experienced the benefits of being a second-generation official. He did not hesitate and walked directly onto the arena. Upon seeing him, the Seed Champion was momentarily taken aback and then said, "I am Song Gang, a fourth-year student from Third Class. Please give me your guidance."
Liu Guanfeng cupped his fists in return: "First Grade Special Class Liu Guanfeng, please give me your guidance."
Song Gang continued, "Although you are the son of General Liu from City Defense, I will not hold back during our match."
Liu Guanfeng nodded, satisfied with Song Gang's attitude: "Just come at me; if I lose, it will be due to my lack of skill and no one else."
The Referee Teacher stepped between them to give some instructions before announcing the start of the match.
At this point, both competitors stood still without moving. Liu Guanfeng smiled at Song Gang: "You can attack first." He then gestured invitingly.
"Then I won't hold back."
After saying this, Song Gang threw a punch; however, it was aimed not at Liu Guanfeng's head but directly at his chest. Just as his fist was about to make contact with Liu Guanfeng's body, Liu Guanfeng shifted his body to the left, allowing Song Gang's fist to pass closely by him.
Liu Guanfeng turned to look at Song Gang and did not attack. "Come again," Liu Guanfeng nodded slightly at Song Gang. "Alright," Song Gang replied and swung his leg, delivering a sweeping kick towards Liu Guanfeng. Liu Guanfeng jumped back.
Seeing the sweeping kick miss, Song Gang rushed towards Liu Guanfeng and unleashed a series of punches. Liu Guanfeng blocked them one by one with his hands. Noticing that Song Gang was running out of energy, Liu Guanfeng pushed him away with both hands.
Liu Guanfeng and Song Gang created some distance again. Liu Guanfeng looked at Song Gang and said, "I've already let you have three moves; it's my turn to fight back."
Without hesitation, Liu Guanfeng stepped forward and thrust his right palm straight towards Song Gang's chest. Before Song Gang could react, the palm struck his chest, causing him to stagger back three or four steps before regaining his balance.
As soon as he steadied himself, Song Gang pushed off with his left foot and lunged forward, throwing a punch aimed at Liu Guanfeng's chest with a technique known as Black Tiger Prowling Heart. Liu Guanfeng leaned to the left in response and grabbed Song Gang's right wrist with his right hand. Following the direction of Song Gang's punch, he swept his right leg to trip him. Song Gang stumbled forward five or six steps before finally losing his balance and falling onto the Arena.
Song Gang got up from the Arena and charged at Liu Guanfeng again, sweeping his right leg towards Liu Guanfeng's waist. Liu Guanfeng caught Song Gang's right leg with both hands—one gripping the ankle and the other the calf—then twisted with force. In pain, Song Gang jumped up on his left foot and attempted to roll away to escape Liu Guanfeng's grip on his right leg. Seeing that Song Gang's left foot was off the ground, Liu Guanfeng did not continue twisting but instead pushed outward with both hands.
Song Gang jumped back four or five times. Once he regained his footing, he did not attack again but looked at Liu Guanfeng and said, "You are strong, much stronger than I am. If I leave the stage like this, it won't look good for me. I hope you can truly defeat me so that I can exit gracefully."
Liu Guanfeng looked at Song Gang in surprise. "Alright, as you wish."
As soon as he finished speaking, Liu Guanfeng's fist was already at Song Gang's chest. Song Gang crossed his arms to block Liu Guanfeng's punch. After being hit in the chest, Song Gang stepped back while Liu Guanfeng quickly ran a few steps to get behind him. Once standing firm, Song Gang did not turn around but swung his left fist backward. Liu Guanfeng grabbed Song Gang's left hand and pulled it, turning Song Gang to face him. Then, Liu Guanfeng placed his left hand under Song Gang's armpit and executed an over-the-shoulder throw.
Just as Song Gang got up, Liu Guanfeng delivered a side kick that struck directly at Song Gang's chest, knocking him off the Arena. Liu Guanfeng had a good grasp of his strength; although this kick seemed heavy, only he and Song Gang knew that it was merely for show. As Liu Guanfeng's foot approached Song Gang's body, he suddenly withdrew power and then applied force just as his foot made contact with Song Gang’s body, effectively sending him off the Arena.
After falling off the Arena, Song Gang quickly rolled over and cupped his hands towards Liu Guanfeng in respect. Liu Guanfeng smiled and nodded in return as the referee stepped into the center of the Arena to announce that Liu Guanfeng had won this match.
