After having breakfast, Liu Guanfeng brought XP to school, once again attracting the attention of classmates. Originally quite cute, XP became even more eye-catching with an additional tail, especially as some little girls surrounded XP, seemingly unable to stop looking. XP also played up to them, nuzzling and licking affectionately, instantly becoming the darling of the First Grade Special Class.
Time flew by quickly, and soon it was time for the Mount Battle Competition's Preliminary Competition. Once again at noon, Director Jin arrived at the Arena and addressed the students below:
"Starting today is the Preliminary Competition of the Mount Battle Competition, which will last for a month. The final victorious Mount will represent the school in the competition. The matches will be divided into high-level Mounts and low-level Mounts. Low-level Mounts will compete from Ring One to Fifth Arena, while high-level Mounts will compete from Sixth Arena to Tenth Arena. Now, all Seed Champions please proceed to the Arena to await your challenges."
Since XP had previously defeated a Fifth Tier Leopard, although the teachers at school were unaware of XP's rank, they still designated XP as the number one competitor among high-level Mounts. Liu Guanfeng led XP to Sixth Arena.

Director Jin announced that the competition was about to begin.
At this moment, a defiant boy approached Sixth Arena where Liu Guanfeng was. This boy was accompanied by a Little Wolf. Although it was a Little Wolf, wolves are inherently Fourth Rank magical beasts. The wolf did not recognize XP's level when it entered.

The poor Little Wolf found itself unable to grip onto XP's body due to its extreme hardness; when it tried to bite XP's neck, it realized it couldn't exert any force at all. With a swift shake of its head, XP sent the Little Wolf flying away.
After being thrown out, Little Wolf steadied itself and spat out many willow-shaped leaves from its mouth, which were the Willow Leaf Flying Daggers, a long-range attack typical of wood-type magical beasts. When those leaves hit XP's body, they made a clinking sound.
Once the Willow Leaf Flying Daggers were exhausted, XP moved to attack, lunging directly at Little Wolf. Seeing XP pounce towards it, Little Wolf immediately jumped about a meter to the left to evade the attack. XP's front paws hit the ground, and without waiting for its hind legs to land, it used the grip of its front paws to change direction and darted towards Little Wolf's opposite side. This time, it was not its front paws but rather XP's small rear end that came rushing in.
XP was currently in a Metalization state, so its tail was also in a metallic form. The two tails split apart into a V shape and struck towards Little Wolf's head. Little Wolf couldn't dodge in time and was hit on the head by XP's two tails. With a loud "smack," Little Wolf was sent flying over two meters.
After being knocked back, Little Wolf steadied itself and shook its head angrily at XP. As XP slowly approached Little Wolf, it began to back away. After retreating a few steps, Little Wolf suddenly lunged forward, but instead of targeting XP, it aimed for XP's right side and quickly turned its head upon landing to unleash another set of Willow Leaf Flying Daggers aimed directly at XP's ribs.
At this moment, XP had already exited the Metalization state. Seeing the Willow Leaf Blades coming, XP let out a howl and darted forward a step to dodge them. While moving forward, XP turned in mid-air and launched a water ball at Little Wolf.
A small water ball shot from XP's mouth straight towards Little Wolf. Upon seeing the water ball approaching its head, Little Wolf raised a front paw and conjured several strands of vine-woven nets half a meter in front of itself as a defensive spell known as Vine Net.
The vine net caught the small water ball. Seeing that the water ball had no effect, XP immediately released fireballs; it took five fireballs to completely destroy the vine net. XP did not stop there and unleashed another series of fireballs at Little Wolf. Despite being able to launch over ten fireballs in quick succession, all were dodged by Little Wolf. However, some debris from the shattered fireballs grazed Little Wolf, causing it to yelp in pain.
Noticing that Little Wolf was jumping around and not paying attention to it, XP quickly opened its mouth again and switched from fireballs to water balls. The boy on the opposite side saw XP's water ball and hurriedly warned his Little Wolf. But by the time Little Wolf noticed, the first water ball had already reached its face, hitting it on the head and causing it to stumble.
The second water ball struck where Little Wolf's front paw met its body, forcing it to stand upright. The third water ball hit Little Wolf's chest, sending it airborne. The subsequent water balls all struck the airborne Little Wolf until it was knocked out of the Arena.
Seeing his mount knocked out of the Arena below, the boy rushed down to check on his mount.
The Referee Teacher walked to the center of the Arena and announced that XP had won. Then the referee declared that the next round of challenges would begin in ten minutes.
XP wobbled over to Liu Guanfeng and said, "Master, it's too much trouble for me to hold back my strength while fighting. Why not just let me take them down in one go?"
Liu Guanfeng smiled at XP and replied, "XP, do you know that other magical beasts grow through mutual combat? Beasts like you as mounts lack fighting experience. If you always rely on your level advantage to suppress your opponents, what will you do when you encounter a beast stronger than you? That's when you'll see the real gap.
If you can hone your combat skills here more effectively, you'll have the ability to fight when you encounter beasts of equal or higher levels. This is also why many people prefer to find wild adult beasts for their second mount rather than raising them from young.
So remember this: unless absolutely necessary, do not reveal all your strength. You must keep your abilities suppressed at the Fourth-Stage Beast level; right now, aside from Ma Sanbao's Leopard, all other mounts are Fourth Rank. Their strength cannot possibly harm you; therefore, you need to practice your combat skills well."
XP nodded humanely and said, "Master understands; I will make good use of this opportunity."
"Good. Go prepare for your next challenge in the Arena. Your performance just now has already fooled many."
Sure enough, as XP walked to the center of the Arena, another boy appeared, riding a Wild Boar from the Earth Department. XP engaged in a battle with the Wild Boar, and during the fight, I imposed restrictions on XP, prohibiting the use of Wood-type spells.
This was because Wood-type spells counter Earth Department spells, rendering many Earth Department spells ineffective against Wood-type magic. To help XP improve its combat skills, Liu Guanfeng decided that it should not use Wood-type spells.
XP darted around the Wild Boar, using various spells in succession. After a considerable effort, it finally managed to take down the Wild Boar.
For the next half month, every day Liu Guanfeng's XP had to fight five or six matches. Most battles with magical beasts required close combat, and their stamina recovered much faster than humans. Additionally, there were twice as many magical beasts participating in the Monster Challenge Tournament compared to knights, so the academy arranged for many more matches.
However, during this half month, Liu Guanfeng noticed that whenever his XP was competing, there was always a familiar face watching closely from the sidelines, sometimes even taking notes. This familiar person was neither Platinum Wen nor one of my classmates but rather the little monkey next to Ma Sanbao.
After each match, XP would leave quickly but would arrive on time for the next day's competition. Noticing this pattern, Liu Guanfeng instructed Bao Rui to keep a close watch on this individual; he wanted to see what they were up to.
Bao Rui followed him for four or five days without noticing anything unusual. He only observed that after each match, the individual would meet with his cousin Hou Jinming. The two seemed to be discussing something; however, since everyone had magical beasts and their alertness was much higher, Bao Rui did not get too close.
After hearing Bao Rui's report, Liu Guanfeng felt somewhat reassured and suspected that they intended to retaliate against him through the Monster Challenge Tournament. As for whether Ma Sanbao was involved in this plot, he didn't need to consider that; if Ma Sanbao wasn't involved, that would indeed be strange.
That night, Bao Rui returned much later than usual. When he rode back on his Fire Wolf and spoke to Liu Guanfeng, he said:
"After today's match ended, Ma Sanbao and Hou Jinming along with that monkey found a few upperclassmen—probably fourth-year students. They talked for quite a while in the school forest. When those upperclassmen came out, they were all smiling. It seems they discussed something inside; are they planning something against you, Third Brother?" Bao Rui said as he looked up at Liu Guanfeng.
"Let them come; this time I want to teach them a lesson so they don't think I'm afraid of trouble. Alright, go get some sleep. If they really come tomorrow, I'll remind them that some people are not to be trifled with."
