"I told you I could save you, and you still didn't believe me. Do you believe me now?"
The man turned around, got off the chair, and knelt at Liu Guanfeng's feet. "Thank you, my lord, for saving my life. I have walked back from the brink of death and learned many things. I am grateful for your kindness in giving me a second chance, and I wish to follow you."
"Get up first. I haven't said I would take you in yet. You need to let me know what skills you possess."
"Replying to my lord, my name is Yang Guo. My father was a miner, and our family has a hereditary talent for finding minerals. My father was oppressed by the mine owner and died because of it. In a fit of rage, I killed the mine owner's son. After that, I escaped from my hometown and came to Black Wolf Mountain, where I became a bandit. The two veins in our stronghold and the Five Elements Gathering Stone Mine are all small finds. I swear that since becoming a bandit, I have never harmed a single commoner."
Liu Guanfeng nodded. "Alright, from today on, you will be my follower. Your task will be to find mines, and for every mineral deposit you discover, I will give you a share of the profits."
"My lord? What do you mean by 'share of the profits'?" Yang Guo asked in confusion.
Liu Guanfeng scratched his head. "Well, a share of the profits means when I make money, I'll take out a small portion as your reward."
Yang Guo smiled. "Thank you, master."
"I heard there are quite a few women captured by your stronghold?"
Yang Guo was taken aback for a moment before nodding and saying, "Yes, master. These women were captured by Three Heads' men; the young and beautiful ones are kept in Three Heads' courtyard, while the others are locked in the caves behind for the Brothers' amusement."
Liu Guanfeng nodded. "Take me to those women."
"Yes, master, please follow me." Liu Guanfeng followed Yang Guo as they exited the Gathering Hall with Bao Rui and others accompanying them. There was a small path between the Second-in-Command's and Boss's courtyards. Following this path, they arrived at a cliff where there were two large iron gates. Liu Guanfeng pointed with his hand:
"Why are there two iron doors here?"
"In response to the master, one of them holds the women, while the other contains the boys who were robbed. Master, the women inside were taken from outside." At this moment, all the bandits outside had either been killed or captured by Liu Guanfeng and his companions, so there were no guards here.
Liu Guanfeng and his companions arrived at the main gate and saw a huge padlock on the iron door. Bao Rui swiftly stepped forward, drew his Twin Blades, and struck at the iron lock with a sword. With a clang, the lock fell to the ground. Yang Guo, standing behind him, exclaimed in admiration, "What a fine sword!"
Copper Bull quickly approached the iron door and pushed it open with force. Yang Guo was even more astonished by Copper Bull's action; usually, it took three or four adult men to move such heavy doors to prevent the women inside from escaping. However, today it was pushed open by a teenager. It seemed that everyone around the master was capable; I should also strive not to tarnish the master's reputation, Yang Guo resolved in his heart.
As they pushed open the iron door, a wave of dampness wafted out from the cave, mixed with various unpleasant odors. Liu Guanfeng frowned again but gritted his teeth and walked into the cave. Inside, he saw row after row of iron doors. Yang Guo explained, "Master, this place is filled with imprisoned women. The Boss created a space for shelter in this cave and locked these people inside."
Liu Guanfeng and his companions continued to walk to the innermost part of the cave. Looking at the iron doors on both sides, Liu Guanfeng felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He recalled a movie he had seen titled "How Many Layers of Hell," and at that moment, he finally understood completely.
Liu Guanfeng waved his hand: "Release them all."
Bao Rui, Copper Bull, Iron Bull, and Dai each took their weapons and approached the main door, smashing open each iron lock one by one. The women inside were immediately frightened and panicked upon seeing several armed youths; they shrank back into the farthest corners. The four youths did not stop; in no time at all, they smashed all the locks and opened the door completely. However, not a single person stepped out.
Liu Guanfeng returned to the entrance of the cave:
"Listen up inside! Black Wolf Mountain has been cleared; there are no more bandits. I am here today to rescue you; we will not harm you in any way. You can come out slowly and see for yourselves. I will be waiting outside." After speaking, Liu Guanfeng turned around and stood in a more open area.
At that moment, a bolder woman peeked her head out to look outside. When she saw that Liu Guanfeng was just a few kids, she lowered her guard and cautiously stepped out. As soon as she emerged, she struggled to adapt to the sunlight outside. Once one person came out, it became easier for others; all the women who had been imprisoned followed one after another.
The first woman who stepped out looked at Liu Guanfeng with excitement and knelt down on the ground: "Thank you for saving me, Benefactor; I will never forget this kindness."
Hearing her words, all the other women behind her also knelt down.
"Please rise; I will need your help with something shortly," Liu Guanfeng said.
The woman remained kneeling on the ground, looking up at Liu Guanfeng without any intention of getting up: "Whatever you need, Benefactor, just command us."
"Let's talk later." Liu Guanfeng stepped forward to help the woman up. The other women slowly stood up as well.
Seeing all the women on their feet, Liu Guanfeng felt relieved. Looking at these women who had been tortured to the point of losing their humanity, Liu Guanfeng calmed himself and said, "I would like to ask for your help. Up ahead, I have captured some robbers who are currently tied up. When you walk past them, if you encounter those who once abused you, feel free to vent your anger. If they dare to resist, I will kill them on the spot. You don't need to be afraid."
"Thank you, Benefactor, for standing up for us. Sisters, it’s time for us to take our revenge," the leading woman shouted to the others. Liu Guanfeng noticed that some of these women's eyes were red, and he thought to himself: it's better not to provoke women.
"Please wait here for a moment. There are also a group of children nearby that we will rescue before heading to the front yard," Liu Guanfeng said as he led Bao Rui and the others to rescue the boys nearby.
This time, Iron Bull smashed the iron lock with his Twin Blades and pushed the door open directly. The entrance of this cave was not blocked by an iron door but was designed like a warehouse. At the back was a large area with many boys inside, aged around sixteen to eight years old. At this moment, these boys had put down what they were holding and were watching the entrance intently.
Liu Guanfeng stood at the cave entrance while Bao Rui and the other four stood behind him. "Everyone come out," Liu Guanfeng called out before stepping aside. The children seemed to hear a command and filed out one by one. When they emerged, they were stunned; the fierce robbers they remembered were gone, leaving only Five Boys, a middle-aged man (Yang Guo), and an old man (Qifeng Ge), along with a group of women not far from them.
Seeing that all the boys had come out, Liu Guanfeng addressed them: "Everyone, I now declare you free. The robbers outside have been eliminated; you can go home now." The boys were initially taken aback and then looked confused. Liu Guanfeng estimated there were about a hundred of them. Noticing that all the boys stood still without moving, Liu Guanfeng asked, "Why aren't you leaving? Do you want to continue living your previous lives?"
At that moment, an older boy stepped forward in front of Liu Guanfeng: "Hello, sir. Thank you for rescuing us all, but we don’t know where to go now because we were brought up here after our parents were killed by robbers. If you let us down now, we have no place to go."
Liu Guanfeng nodded: "Go over there and see if you can find any relatives. If you do, you can go down together. I will provide some travel expenses for you at that time. Those who have nowhere else to go are welcome to follow me; if not, then find your own way. I will also give you some travel expenses."
After Liu Guanfeng finished speaking, the boys and women merged into one group. Familiar faces quickly appeared among them; many of these boys were children of the women present. Several women found their children and embraced them while crying uncontrollably.
Liu Guanfeng and his companions silently watched this touching scene unfold, tears streaming down Liu Guanfeng's face as he thought about how his mother at home and his mother in Starfall City would react upon seeing him.
After a while, all the mothers brought their children before Liu Guanfeng and knelt down. Liu Guanfeng hurriedly stepped forward to help one of them up: "Please get up quickly; what are you doing?"
The mother whom Liu Guanfeng helped up said with tears in her eyes: "Benefactor, I wish for my child to stay by your side from now on; I implore you to take us in."
Other mothers also said, "Please, Benefactor, take in our children and let them stay by your side." Liu Guanfeng glanced and saw a total of six mothers and eight children.
"I understand how you feel, but I still hope you can lead a normal life with your children, because following me may put your lives at risk."
One mother shook her head, "Benefactor, you saved the lives of my child and me. Even if it means dying to protect you, we will have no complaints."
Since the mothers had spoken so earnestly, Liu Guanfeng felt he could not refuse any longer. He nodded heavily, "Alright, from today on, you will be my personal guards. But let me make it clear: if you do not meet my requirements within four years, I will send you back home at any time. Do you understand?"
The eight youths nodded, but the six mothers simultaneously told their children, "If you do not meet the Benefactor's requirements, do not come back to see me; go directly to meet your deceased father." The eight youths knelt before Liu Guanfeng again, saying, "Please rest assured, Master; we will not disappoint your expectations."
Afterward, the eight youths stood up and went to their mothers, continuously assuring them.
At this moment, Liu Guanfeng addressed the youths and women present: "We will go to the front yard now. I will arrange everything for you." After saying this, Liu Guanfeng led the way at the front while the newly appointed eight personal guards took the place of Bao Rui, Copper Bull, and Iron Bull to walk behind Liu Guanfeng. They understood what being personal guards meant: when their master was in danger, they needed to be the first to rush out and use their weapons to fend off threats.
Passing through a small path, the group arrived at the entrance of the Gathering Hall. At this time, the captured bandits were still tied up in the square. Liu Guanfeng stepped onto the steps while the women and youths who had come with him stood aside; only the eight personal guards stood behind Liu Guanfeng.
Liu Guanfeng gazed at the group of bandits before him. The bandits also noticed the youths and women whom Liu Guanfeng had rescued; among the more than three hundred people, some immediately perked up. They had forgotten that they were currently bound, and one person's mouth even dripped with shiny drool.
After scanning with his eyes, Liu Guanfeng focused on nine women among them. He instructed Bao Rui and the other three behind him to bring all nine out. The nine were bewildered as they were brought out. However, being tied up left them unable to say much; they were well aware of these four youths' capabilities.
Once Liu Guanfeng saw them brought out, he said to those women, "You can go find your enemies now."
